Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

My New Plugin for VSL

iKutZ 6:47 PM - 29 March, 2009
Here's another project I have been hammering away at. It basically abuses videoSL's plugin architecture to allow multichannel video i.e. when the deck platter goes one way you get one video and when the deck goes the other you get another...

I can imagine people using this in a number of ways i.e. making footage with 2 different camera angles and the video flicks between the two. Or I could have the plugin so that if the bass drops you get a different video e.t.c. Hit me back if you have any ideas...
iKutZ 6:51 PM - 29 March, 2009
downloads only 7mb, sorry for mentioning

kutz, interesting stuff, can u post a video of how u use it ? or a demo ?
iKutZ 7:05 PM - 29 March, 2009
Just about to do one now! gonna film my hand on the turntable from 2 different angles and then scratch between them
DJBIGWIZ 7:09 PM - 29 March, 2009
WOW.. rteally cool stuff man. I can think of a lot of cool stuff for this. How does it affect the performance of VSL... does everything else still hold up and work the same?
iKutZ 7:55 PM - 29 March, 2009
A quick example of the effect this creates. Apologise for the quality. Had my parrot trying to chew off my ear the whole time I was doing it

@WIZ - it doesn't really hamper performance too much its just a double res video e.g. two vids in one file file, thats setup in a specific way and a plugin to calcalate which portion should be visible!
DJBIGWIZ 8:03 PM - 29 March, 2009
very cool
Henry GQ 8:22 PM - 29 March, 2009

nik39 10:31 PM - 29 March, 2009

Nathan H 11:15 PM - 29 March, 2009
very very cool! I hadn't thought of making special media like that :-)
Henry GQ 11:41 PM - 29 March, 2009
now u know nathan.. hehe
nik39 11:45 PM - 29 March, 2009
It would also be sweet if VSL supported multichannel audio.

Just imagine one mp4 which holds:
- original version
- dirty version
- clean version
- acapella version
- instrumental version

Currently I have sometimes 4 files... all having the same video but different audio :-/

I think that is more about SSL supporting multichannel audio :-)
It is something I'll keep in mind when I rewrite SSL's QT audio decoding though.

I vote that iKutz gets a job at Serato to work with Nathan to bang out more inventive plug-ins and improvements!!!

That rocks!!

iKutZ 7:05 AM - 30 March, 2009
Still need abit of help with Nathan on me old matrix maths for doing these as at the moment there's very strict some very strict rules to follow on making this kinda content work and I need to generalise allot more...

yeah thats a great idea. the people who thought of dvds were thinking tyhe same thing. multiple everything, linked together.

too bad only porn uses all the dvd features. the inventors really were on to something.
Tableturnah 3:35 PM - 30 March, 2009
nik39, why don't you just demux the audio and associate the 4 different audio versions to the same video? That would save some space.

Easier to just have everything in one file.

Interesting concept. I take it, this is really only a "scratch" effect right.. I'd like to see this in a realtime environment. eg in a set
iKutZ 9:32 AM - 31 March, 2009
Actually at first it was just for scratching but then I realised I could use this in a variety of ways e.g. having a bass cut off point so when there's no bass theres a different video playing (good for none scratch DJ's). I have now tested running 4 vid channels and can have a variety of different conditions were different video will play... I am gonna gonna be incoorparating this into future shows. Its around this time of year I make a new one anyway so its a good excuse to push what I can do!
