I was playing at a gig, and wanted to try out the serato and its compatibility w/ cdj 1000 mkII's,
I had put my input into line on setup. My problem was that everytime I try to cue a song it wont let me cue to the beginning. Its confusing what i'm trying to say, but let say i'm in middle of a track and i wanna go back to the beginning of the track, w/ my turntables i can simply pick up the needle and drop it to the beginning and my track will start from the beginning, but w/ CDJ's it wont let me do that, i simply put the serato on internal mode, forwarded the serato cd like 2min ahead, and then went back put the mp3 file on absolute mode, and spun the scratch wheel on cdj's to cue it back to the beginning... is there something i'm doing wrong, and i know my explanation is bit confusing. Need Help!! Btw w/ my turntables serato works beautifully.
I use it w/ CDJ's for my mobile gigs cause i still haven't input all my CDs to my Laptop yet.

why don't you just insert your cd's in your cd-rom drive of your laptop? Serato is able to play directly from your cd's....

DJScoop, I dont understand your problem. You described how you (on CD) switch to internal mode, forward 2 minutes and then switch to absolute mode. What do you want to achieve, as this (as you described) doesnt make sense to me... Did I miss anything?

Martin, its safer right now if you rip your tracks in advance to your harddisk unless youre really sure you dont get any readerrors on your cd, cause then SSL will stutter/stop/glitch/hiccup.

i'm guessing you're not using vinyl mode on the CDJs? i think what he's describing is when you use cdjs, if you use the auto-cue feature, normally there's silence at the beginning of the track, but on the cds there's timecode. correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't there lead-in on the cds as well where it counts down to the actual timecode? i haven't used the CDs myself so I'm not sure, but that would make sense.

i've been able to play CDs out of my machine pretty glitch-free so far, but that doesn't mean everyone's setup is perfect.

I dont knwo what this "vinyl mode" on the cdjs is (only silence at the beginning of a track?) neither do I understand his problem. But... have you tried increasing the offset startpoint on the setup screen?

Spin.. this sounds like you may have the right idea.. I am not sure his problem either.. I have been doing alot of testing with SSL on my CDJ's and I have no problems with cueing..

Unless I am missunderstanding you, this should work. You can hit the "track search" button to go back to the beginning of track 1 / the beginning of the control signal. If you press pause before going back to the beginning of track 1, you won't have to do any rewinding/back cueing.

I checked with my CDJ's again and I can do this fine.. scoop.. check your CDJ's and make sure you have the setup correctly.. make sure master tempo is turned off..

ahhh i think thats it i had the master tempo "on", so when i pause on the part of the song and then try to re-cue to the beginning by going on beginning of the cd, my mp3 file stays on the original cue point i had it, i did it w/ master tempo off and it worked, if it starts acting up on me again i'll just record it on my camcorder and send it to you guys.
thanks for the help guys.

Yea, that master tempo thing messes up SSL pretty bad. I did that with the CDJ's I have now and I had locked the pitch to speed it up...I forgot I was spinnin with SSL! and the system started to freak out...I turned it off and everything went back to glitch free mode.

Remeber that "master tempo" changes the audiable pitch of the track to keep it sounding the same no matter the speed. This of course would be very bad to SSL as the control signal is a audio waveform of sorts that the software reads to tell where it is. if you change the way it sounds IE "master tempo" the system has a hard time telling where it is will have unpredictable results. so this would also be the case if say someone put a effects or filter box inline between the CDJ and the SSL amp.. not that you would but if you did.. Also keep in mind that cables are a important thing. If you have a bad cable then you could get similar unpredicatble results
