The equipment I am using is:

Pioneer DJM 800
(2) Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3
Rane SL2

I am currently only getting minimal control over the software with my CDJs. I can scratch the record and control the speed of the track (which is very clunky) but I can't do things like trigger cue points, engage loops, or other control elements.

I have the SL2 in CD mode, I have tried (line/cd) mode on the mixer, I am in rel mode on the software... I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for the help!

Hey elenko,

You won't be able to trigger cues and loops from the CDJ when using REL mode.

I've tried all 3 modes, and I REL mode is the mode where I get the most functionality. I can't loop or cue in any of them...

You should be able to cue and loop on the CDJ when using ABS mode only.

Make sure the dipswitch on the input side of the SL2 is set to CD.

It is set to CD. When I press loop it just loops the time code CD. When I press cue point, it randomly jumps the track back a few beats. It doesn't correlate with the cue point saved in Serato DJ at all.

Your CDJ can't trigger the cues in the software.
You can only use the cue on the CDJ when in ABS mode.

When in ABS mode, creating a loop on the CDJ will, yes, loop the timecode but since the virtual deck is reading the "abosolute" position of that timecode it will also loop that part of the track in the software.

Thanks a ton Zach, you've been really helpful.

I just wish I would have know all of this before I bought the MK3s. The lack of accuracy and control you get with serato on the MK3s make it not worth it at all.

Would you say I'll get the control I'm looking for with the 900s? I'm coming from a NS6 and just looking to be able to have a stable BPM, easier looping, and the ability to visualize the waves.

Yes.. the 900's are natively supported meaning you can use them in HID mode and the controls on the unit will trigger the software parameters.

The 850's are also natively supported.
You'll find a list of supported devices here --> serato.com

Hey Zach, I have another question to confirm.

I just ordered a pair of 900s. I just want to make sure that I can control them completely in HID mode with 2 usb cables and a usb hub.

That seems to be what people are saying, I just want to make sure I can get rid of my SL2.

Any other relevant info would be great too!

Yes.. the 900's are natively supported (they are on that list:)

Right, I just wanted to make sure that I was understanding what that meant connection-wise.

Thanks again for the help!

Okay, this is also probably obvious, but how do I get audio to my mixer (DJM 800) without using the SL2 box?

You can't. You must use a Rane soundcard.
