Another reason why I love FTP record pools

sixxx 3:54 AM - 29 January, 2009
So today I downloaded an FTP application for my T-Mobile G1. Now, I can log in from my G1 and download anything that's brand new from iDJPool without having to use my gig's laptop (while at the gig). It's cool cause it saves it to my card, then I just plug it in to my laptop and do a quick import.

:)

Damn, I love technology!

----

Oh yeah, I should've bumped the other thread but I didn't feel like digging for it.

lol
HYDRO MATIC 4:05 AM - 29 January, 2009
Wow that's really dope now if you only hAd like a 16 gig card you'd really be in there...wait (turns iPhone over)... Never mind....

LOL I couldn't help it..... ;)
sixxx 4:10 AM - 29 January, 2009
hahahaha!!!

Yeah. I think the iPhone can go up to 16 gigs? I'm not quite sure. Haven't upgraded from the 1G that came with it cause I always keep forgetting since I don't download a lot.... but now that I have this nice little program I'm going to look for one.

It's really useful! :)
Dj-M.Bezzle 4:52 PM - 29 January, 2009
Now all you need is that app to run your G1 with SL haha...sixxx shows up at the club hey can you play this song here its on my phone!!! haha jk
sixxx 5:36 PM - 29 January, 2009
lol - someone else is another thread is asking if anyone has found a way
to run SSL on their iPhone. lol
Dj-M.Bezzle 5:49 PM - 29 January, 2009
Thats where the idea came from haha, i should give credit to that thread before they sue my estate for copyright violation
sixxx 5:54 PM - 29 January, 2009
Busted! lol
dj lad 8:35 PM - 29 January, 2009
Dude I would be nervous about downloading music, even legally, through your 3G connection. If you're doing it via WIFI or something, that's different, but 3G is a bad way to do it. Check your contract, because w/ AT&T (and I'd imagine it's the same w/ T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon) you can get charged for downloading things not pictures/email/browsing, even if you have an unlimited plan.
sixxx 8:49 PM - 29 January, 2009
It would be WIFI. So no worries.
HYDRO MATIC 9:12 PM - 29 January, 2009
Yeah but the limit is right around 5 gigs of contious use I can't see anyone going over that monthly limit... I constantly use my phone to preview tracks and conduct bussiness (net usage) and can't get anywhere near that..,
Dj-M.Bezzle 9:42 PM - 29 January, 2009
damn sixxx that means you should probaby stop streaming IRON MAN in HD through your phone

im running a unlocked iphone on tmobile with a granfathered 5.99 tzones data plan thats "unlimited" data and ive used it as a modem for my laptop before with some decent data usage. never got overage charges or extra data fees.
dj lad 10:49 PM - 29 January, 2009
Yeah...like I said they might go after you...probably only if they decided to pick on you but it's just a possibility.
dj_soo 11:04 PM - 29 January, 2009
you can get 16 gig SD cards nowadays for pretty cheap
djphilly 11:28 PM - 29 January, 2009
how fast do u download from idjpool?
dead serious 11:30 PM - 29 January, 2009
Are there any other FTP based pools out there? Not saying iDJpool is bad, I'm sure it's great, just wondering if there are others out there.

My average is 65K p/second. It was half that but I've been getting this for a while now. :)

dead serious,

I'm not aware of any other FTP based pools.
djchase 7:44 AM - 3 February, 2009
so what other details can i get on this pool monthly rate genre of music and such (edits)
djphilly 8:25 AM - 3 February, 2009
it lists their chart on the website... idjpool.com
djchase 8:39 AM - 3 February, 2009
not bad but are they better than cicana?
dj king g 8:45 AM - 4 February, 2009
i saw a 16 gig mini sd card for like 50 bucks the other day...
DJ Schematic 11:36 AM - 4 February, 2009
would it work on my bb storm? hmm...
sixxx 1:45 PM - 4 February, 2009
cicana is illegal and they steal music from other pools, including idjpool.
JT 3 1:53 PM - 4 February, 2009
Hey sixx,

How do I sign up for iDJpool? I emailed them with my details about the company I work for, etc.

Currently I use X-mix and promo only, as well as other sources. But I like the ease of use of the iDJ pool layout. Looks like a great resource.
djmallon 2:42 PM - 4 February, 2009
I'll give a big +1 to idjpool. I get around 75-125kb/s on average.
sixxx 2:53 PM - 4 February, 2009
JT 3... the amount of music is insane... You may regret it. lol
sixxx 2:55 PM - 4 February, 2009
Oh yeah, you can go to their website and just click on the contact link. Tell them I sent ya.... hopefully I can get something out of it like a free month. (I wish)

lol

:P
djchase 12:09 AM - 5 February, 2009
hey sixxx is ciana that bad? how much do you pay a month at idjpool?
DJ_X_Trodinaire 1:30 AM - 5 February, 2009
FYI you need to hire an intern for the mass DL from idjpool

I just cant keep up.

Hahahaha. No doubt! I'm 3K files behind. But, I'm caught up with all the new shit on a week by week basis. I finally got a method to my madness.

I think any pool or music source that is illegal is bad because it hurts those who are trying to do things the right way.

I pay $50.00 a month. With the amount of tracks I get, that amount of $ isn't shit - Plus I do gigs, so it really just pays for itself.
sixxx 2:01 AM - 5 February, 2009
Btw, I don't know how much the fees are now. I also pay $50.00 to get all the stuff including the VIP section and classics.

Contact them for your pricing info and what not.
DJ Schematic 2:38 AM - 5 February, 2009
classics, aye?

goes back to the 1950s!

oops i said too much!
DJ Schematic 4:32 AM - 5 February, 2009
i thought 8thwonder was dope. i'm going to sign up with idj and give em a try. 50 bucks isn't much when you compare it to the real vinyl pools.
Alex Dreamz 5:46 AM - 5 February, 2009
idjpool looks like it's too much bad stuff to sort through, I looked at the Jan list and like I would probably download 8 to 10 of those songs, then probably end up playing like 4. lol
OhCeeDee 7:44 AM - 5 February, 2009
Yeah the "Dance" music looks painful..
sixxx 7:44 AM - 5 February, 2009
You need to get iTunes then. You don't need a record pool if you're not willing or play to break new music. My bet is you don't understand what a record pool is all about.
Alex Dreamz 8:21 AM - 5 February, 2009
yeah...probably.

With Hard Drive space being cheap now and the magic of itunes, this really isn't a issue anymore. Like sixxx said the idea of a Record Pool is to provide a DJ with access to music that he/she NEEDS but also music that the DJ could also break. My thought is usually been better to have it and not need it, than to tell someone - nope don't have that (within reason).

What I do with the idjpool Urban is grab the Dirty and Instrumental of everything released/posted. If it becomes a hit, I'll go back and get the Clean and maybe Accapella. With the Dance, I pick and choose what I think I may need by Artist or Remixer (Dance is just too insane).

I also use iTunes and look at "date added". One day (this summer maybe), I will go back and delete some stuff that I will never ever play, planning on cleaning up 2006/07 added (just been buying larger drives instead of deleting so far).

Back when you used to buy vinyl, wouldn't it have been cool to have access to all the 12" new singles in the entire store (good and bad) instead of 4 or 5 of the Top 25 records on the wall?

That is idjpool, for the most part.
OhCeeDee 12:49 AM - 6 February, 2009
Thanks sixxx for assuming I'm a complete DJ illiterate. :) Yes, I have iTunes (?) and you really feel that the only way to "break" new music is to subscribe to a record pool??

I get why DJ pools like idjpool work, and if I was a top 40 DJ that had to deal with requests all night then yeah I would be all over this like white on rice. But I'm not, so yeah in a sense I guess I don't "understand what a record pool is all about" because I've never subscribed to one. But I do know that I probably don't need to.

"Dance" music is just such a broad term, (latin? house? trance? electro? disco? who knows..) and it seems like the little bit that I browsed over was mostly big label stuff, which is another problem. I searched a bunch of my favorite "dance" artists and some very well known producers/artists signed to major labels in many electro styles and not a single one popped up in the "TOP 500 DANCE Singles Chart".

Most of the "dance" music I play is scattered across tons of different labels, or unsigned stuff, mostly "Electro" in nature (and it's not that I'm playing completely unknown stuff either, or only remixes). "Blog House", if that's what you want to call it, is part of the "dance" genre that feels very young and volatile, its not just a matter of grabbing everything the labels throw at you and sticking it on one giant FTP... although that would be an amazing resource. Hype machine is about as close as it gets, and even then you sill have to go to iTunes/Beatport/Whatever to buy the tracks (not to mention you're missing out on the real gems if you don't manually hunt outside of the aggregate blogs).

So in conclusion, no, idjpool is not for everyone... definitely not me. Is that what were debating here? I don't even remember. Whatever. Hah.

Oh, and I don't take requests. Ever. Maybe that helps too? :)

OhCeeDee.... the comment about iTunes was for Alex Dreams who said,

You posted as I was typing a reply to his post. :)
sixxx 4:31 AM - 6 February, 2009
Btw, I've been a radio DJ for years and I get a ton of music from various sources... all free. Unfortunately, it's a pain in the ass when I could just grab "most" of what I need from one place. That is the main reason why I'm a part of iDJPool. I believed I said that already when I first posted about it.

Could you or anyone ever get everything they need from one source and once source only? You'd be fooling yourself if you say yes. For instance, I love "underground" hip hop.... and iDJPool certainly isn't the place for that, but I get that through my other sources for free.

There's no real debate here. This thread was just created because I firmly believe that ftp pools (if there are any others out there) are the way to go... at least for someone like me.
OhCeeDee 7:19 AM - 6 February, 2009
Sixxx, if there was one source for all the music i need, let alone FTP i would crap my pants, and yes, i would probably gladly pay a monthly fee for it. That is def a big plus for DJs that play a lot of the music on iDJPool, and I've got no qualms with that, in fact I'm jealous!

Sorry, i figured you were addressing me with the iTunes post. I think i just assume people are ripping on me no matter what. :)
sixxx 8:51 PM - 6 February, 2009
lol. Sorry for the confusion. I usually quote when i respond.... i thought i was quick enough and then bam! you beat me to it. (no chef) (no misquote)

----

I play more stuff than i get from iDJPool, so i get the rest from my other legal sources. Unfortunately, i have less and less free time nowadays so it's imperative I maximize how I manage whatever free time I have left.

The other thing i love about this pool is that it saved me a lot of time from having to rip all my commercial, classics vinyl. :)
djchrischip 4:48 AM - 9 February, 2009
hey is there any way i can download music to my blackberry bold. Its sad I am a dj n i don't have one ringtone nor any songs lol
sixxx 4:52 AM - 9 February, 2009
lol

I don't know. Make a new thread in the Off Topic Section. I'm sure there are blackberry bold users here. :)
djchrischip 4:56 AM - 9 February, 2009
nah i'm not going to bother people with another thread like this forum is way too too crowded anyways lmao.
sixxx 6:06 AM - 9 February, 2009
Here, I will help you. Make a new thread like this.

Favo[u]rite cell phone for ring tones. hahahaha
djmallon 5:35 PM - 9 February, 2009
Sorry to hijack - but no. Nothing for the bold. Tried it with mine.
sixxx 6:31 PM - 9 February, 2009
That sucks. So glad the g1 can use any song in your library as a ringtone.
djmallon 8:16 PM - 9 February, 2009
Woops, my bad. I was referring to an FTP program for the Bold. You can apply any song in your library as your ringtone.
sixxx 8:31 PM - 9 February, 2009
Ooooooh! That makes sense. lol
