Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Last Played / play count Filter

obextreme 7:29 PM - 6 February, 2014
This may have been covered so apologies if it has!

But it would really help if you could add a "last played" / "play count" filter so you can sort your most popular tracks. it also helps you identify which songs you play the least meaning you can keep your mp3 library as up to date as you it could be!

a simple change, but very handy to me and I'm sure others !

anyone else agree ?

This has been requested since Scratch Live v1. Why is this constantly ignored? This would help EVERY DJ with their library management. It's borderline infuriating.

This seriously needs to get bumped.
DJ Lil Vito 2:52 PM - 26 March, 2014
Another new version of Serato, no play count feature.
Culprit 12:14 AM - 27 March, 2014
I would like this feature implemented as well
Shalobee 2:49 PM - 27 March, 2014
+1 definitely agree needs a last played column and a play count column for sure.
E11World 4:35 PM - 27 March, 2014
+1 I'm really waiting for such a simple feature to be implemented.
DJ Danny S 8:22 AM - 12 April, 2014

Why hasn't this been added yet? Please guys.

I am actually going to retract my vote for this because for it to constantly write to the file after each unload might cause serato to become unstable. I would love the feature, but not at the cost of unsuitability, unless it writes to the database, but then what if you move your files to a newer computer.
DJ Compiler 12:26 AM - 19 September, 2014
I can't think of an instance in which you would move the file often enough for it to be an issue. If you're using an external between multiple computers then the database file stays with the external and there isn't an issue. Plus I don't see how stability would be compromised as iTunes keeps track of this without issue. Also I don't think serato would release it if it caused major stability issues.

It's not officially released or supported via serato dj. I am talking about the constant writes to the file to upgrade the play count number, which itunes supports but serato dj does not. If it wrote all the data when the program closed instead of after loading a track then I would support it, but not during live playback.
DJ Compiler 2:42 AM - 19 September, 2014
I'm aware it's not officially released but I don't think writing that to a file briefly wouldn't be a huge deal. But if so I'm sure Serato has the expertise and knowledge to code it successfully.

I recently switched from Rekordbox to Serato. I guess I'm going back to the (FREE) Rekordbox, because I'm already missing this feature like crazy! I'm an allround DJ with over 15000 track in the library in over 50 genres. You get lost easily in a libray that size. So filtering out tracks I've played before is a big help!

So a big +1 here.

Will not upgrade to full version untill this is in there. So please keep me updated!

very important - and should also be easy to add?

becomes very crucial if you keep track of a larger / less focused library of different genres. And it's also important when you want to do some housekeeping of your library, delete really useless / never played tracks etc.

They could be eventually consistent, and just increase counters in memory, then save these to disk once Serato is closed. This was no extra file writing happens when it's in action. My use case for something like this is to find out what I played last set, so I don't sound repetitious and play it again.

+1 Such a useful and simple feature that loads of people want. Traktor's got it. Serato should definitely have it!

I know there has been talk from the Serato mods about a desire to overhaul the library features. More categories, a "next track" engine, play counts, etc. All that has to be on the road map. Hopefully it's coming soon.

Play counts is such an intuitive way to sort your library to weed out the guilty, and to unearth the gems.
LJ_WOOLSEY 1:13 PM - 29 October, 2015
+1 so basic but so helpfull
MurdoX 9:40 AM - 21 November, 2015
Yes please add.

(And add option for resetting the play count with History > Clear or manually. Either for each track or for all play counts.)

this feature is standard across most music library programs like iTunes, window media traktor, record box., the list goes on
Culprit 11:33 PM - 7 December, 2015
I know the ultimate goal is to get more users to switch over to serato dj. These are pretty key features if that is the ultimate goal.
MurdoX 1:35 AM - 8 December, 2015
1++++++

I don't get it. Is this really such a big and massive project to add this? It's been requested for years. We even got the history feature pretty quick. This feature would be sort of the same thing no?
Low.Treble 11:37 AM - 8 December, 2015
+1, should be there...
Dj Ed (jfsr) 6:40 PM - 15 December, 2015
Meanwhile in lack of this feature i've started to abuse the "grouping" field to add the last played date (manually, after a show). But this is too cumbersome really.
Harddried 9:43 PM - 4 January, 2016
+10000 - but they will ignore it like the star rating... Such a shame!

I'm doing regular radioshows & would love this feature to check which tracks haven't been played in a while - with new tunes coming in every week I want an easy way to remind me of tunes maybe a few months old, that I simply overlooked (or deliberately didn't play) on the past shows, so I can bring them back fresh on the show I'm currently playing! (I'm choosing many tracks on the fly right during the show)

Such a simple data accumulation feature really, hope this will be implemented soon!

To new to know yet. But come on since day one of ScratchLIVE people have asked for this! I believe every single dj software has this feature. No idea at all why they wouldn't of added since 2005! Mind blown really.

It's definitely 10 years too late lol
SirForce 7:12 PM - 7 June, 2016
My guess it the databasev2 doesn't have a place to store and deal with this, but Im speculating. Changing that might be epic as it would break the SSL/SDJ sharing at the very least, again speculating.

I too have asked for this feature, it would be very helpful. Makes it easy to see what's being played and especially what's not being played.

Smart Crates could be used to help curate the library.

This would make life a lot easier when it comes to pruning the library to say the least. That and how many times I've endured the electric slide.
Culprit 12:37 AM - 8 June, 2016
I think it does because it updates live when we play, changing colors. We can change data on the fly, makes zero sense why they cant implement a play count.
SirForce 2:07 AM - 8 June, 2016
Quote:

CROSSES FINGERS but I still think it's more complicated to read the count, increment, store the new value in addition to marking a track as played which is more of a bit flag that can be cleared at will.

Should the play count value be editable in the id tag field?
Culprit 7:46 AM - 8 June, 2016
No it shouldn't. It should just add to the existing value in the database. So value would be equivalent to value+1. It's stupid easy to do.
SirForce 12:06 PM - 8 June, 2016
I'm on board...

To be honest if it were going to be even on the radar Serato would of chimed in already.
MilkieDJ 8:36 AM - 13 January, 2017
Why don't they chime in? If they gave a reason why it won't be implemented, or give a timescale, there would be a lot less threads asking for the same thing over n over again.

The worst thing a company can do is ignore it's customers, whether they are asking for the moon on a stick or not. There must be 100's of feature requests, some sound reasonable and others not, they have been ignored by the Serato team. Giving an answer a customer does not want to hear is a lot better than being ignored.

Knowing a company listens to you, despite not being able to commit to your request, is a hell of a lot better than being given complete silence.

Play count would be extremely useful to have and use in the context of smart crates so we can easily find what usually works in certain situations. It will also help me keep my library a lot tighter and help identify missing gems.
