This may have been covered so apologies if it has!
But it would really help if you could add a "last played" / "play count" filter so you can sort your most popular tracks. it also helps you identify which songs you play the least meaning you can keep your mp3 library as up to date as you it could be!
a simple change, but very handy to me and I'm sure others !
anyone else agree ?

This has been requested since Scratch Live v1. Why is this constantly ignored? This would help EVERY DJ with their library management. It's borderline infuriating.

I am actually going to retract my vote for this because for it to constantly write to the file after each unload might cause serato to become unstable. I would love the feature, but not at the cost of unsuitability, unless it writes to the database, but then what if you move your files to a newer computer.
DJ Compiler
12:26 AM - 19 September, 2014
I can't think of an instance in which you would move the file often enough for it to be an issue. If you're using an external between multiple computers then the database file stays with the external and there isn't an issue. Plus I don't see how stability would be compromised as iTunes keeps track of this without issue. Also I don't think serato would release it if it caused major stability issues.

1:13 AM - 19 September, 2014
It's not officially released or supported via serato dj. I am talking about the constant writes to the file to upgrade the play count number, which itunes supports but serato dj does not. If it wrote all the data when the program closed instead of after loading a track then I would support it, but not during live playback.

I'm aware it's not officially released but I don't think writing that to a file briefly wouldn't be a huge deal. But if so I'm sure Serato has the expertise and knowledge to code it successfully.

This seems like an easy item to implement, it's really a head scratcher why it hasn't yet.

I recently switched from Rekordbox to Serato. I guess I'm going back to the (FREE) Rekordbox, because I'm already missing this feature like crazy! I'm an allround DJ with over 15000 track in the library in over 50 genres. You get lost easily in a libray that size. So filtering out tracks I've played before is a big help!
So a big +1 here.
Will not upgrade to full version untill this is in there. So please keep me updated!

very important - and should also be easy to add?
becomes very crucial if you keep track of a larger / less focused library of different genres. And it's also important when you want to do some housekeeping of your library, delete really useless / never played tracks etc.

They could be eventually consistent, and just increase counters in memory, then save these to disk once Serato is closed. This was no extra file writing happens when it's in action. My use case for something like this is to find out what I played last set, so I don't sound repetitious and play it again.

I know there has been talk from the Serato mods about a desire to overhaul the library features. More categories, a "next track" engine, play counts, etc. All that has to be on the road map. Hopefully it's coming soon.

Play counts is such an intuitive way to sort your library to weed out the guilty, and to unearth the gems.

I don't get it. Is this really such a big and massive project to add this? It's been requested for years. We even got the history feature pretty quick. This feature would be sort of the same thing no?

I'm doing regular radioshows & would love this feature to check which tracks haven't been played in a while - with new tunes coming in every week I want an easy way to remind me of tunes maybe a few months old, that I simply overlooked (or deliberately didn't play) on the past shows, so I can bring them back fresh on the show I'm currently playing! (I'm choosing many tracks on the fly right during the show)
Such a simple data accumulation feature really, hope this will be implemented soon!

My guess it the databasev2 doesn't have a place to store and deal with this, but Im speculating. Changing that might be epic as it would break the SSL/SDJ sharing at the very least, again speculating.
I too have asked for this feature, it would be very helpful. Makes it easy to see what's being played and especially what's not being played.
Smart Crates could be used to help curate the library.
This would make life a lot easier when it comes to pruning the library to say the least. That and how many times I've endured the electric slide.

I think it does because it updates live when we play, changing colors. We can change data on the fly, makes zero sense why they cant implement a play count.
SirForce
2:07 AM - 8 June, 2016
CROSSES FINGERS but I still think it's more complicated to read the count, increment, store the new value in addition to marking a track as played which is more of a bit flag that can be cleared at will.
Should the play count value be editable in the id tag field?

No it shouldn't. It should just add to the existing value in the database. So value would be equivalent to value+1. It's stupid easy to do.

Why don't they chime in? If they gave a reason why it won't be implemented, or give a timescale, there would be a lot less threads asking for the same thing over n over again.
The worst thing a company can do is ignore it's customers, whether they are asking for the moon on a stick or not. There must be 100's of feature requests, some sound reasonable and others not, they have been ignored by the Serato team. Giving an answer a customer does not want to hear is a lot better than being ignored.
Knowing a company listens to you, despite not being able to commit to your request, is a hell of a lot better than being given complete silence.

not sure if this would be helpful (at least not just yet) but I am in the process of writing an app that can parse Serato session files and provide useful stats.
The current stats will show you your top 200 songs/artists played. I could probably expand the count to a bigger number, or add a 'least played' stat to help with library management.
The app is in beta and currently only processes 200 session files. but if you're interested in trying it out the jar can be download from here (must have JRE 8 installed; only tested on OSX but may be windows compatible):
gitlab.com
I've also added some screenshots and explanation on how to use it here:

any and all feedback is welcomed!

- variable top song/artist counts (e.g top 100, 500, 1000, 5000)

It's too bad Play Count does not take into consideration of past plays. Only starts counting as of today.
Guess i'll need to wait another few years to rack up time to see what unused tracks need to be removed from my library.
