If you look on the front page of djcity's record pool at least 75 percent of the songs are fucking weak bootleg remixes. its hard to filter through all the bullshit to get to official releases. I hate that shit. DJCity wasnt like that when I first joined up.

i'd like to check out DMS but shits too pricy and i havent heard enough good things to justify the expense.

I bought one month of DMS and that's all I plan to get. I basically downloaded their entire library and I'll take that and deactivate a day before my account re-ups.

How stringent is the verification process with DMS? They state they'll refund if they reject, but I'd rather not go through the hassle if it's going to be a pain. I used to hold regular residencies but over the course of time I've been doing more private parties regularly. I'm not a mobile in the traditional sense since most (all) my gigs these days are pretty much all word of mouth rather than me marketing myself, putting out mixes, cards, website, etc.

Awesome, guess I'll give it a try. I've been with DJ City since they launched, but I find myself using it less and less because of precisely what's being discussed here--the avalanche of homemade remixes. Don't get me wrong, there's some good work here, but it's such a volume and of such variable quality that I find myself just logging in once a month, grabbing some popular artists, and then bouncing... kinda runs contrary to the whole concept of what a record pool and breaking music is all about.

you should ask the owner of the record pool to set the remixes in a separate category/tab/folder.

Exactly what I was thinking. If you have a problem with the pool then you should be directing your discrepencies to the pool director. Posting on this forum isn't gonna solve the problem unless you are trying to get all the members on the forum that are involved with the pool to band together and voice there gripes to the pool director.
Just my 2 cents :-)

^^ he's right
i sent my pool director an email saying that it would be nice if he could tag the tracks with a BPM rating prior to posting them. the director wrote me back the same day and said he'd get on top of it. this happened two months ago and now most of the new tracks have the bpm's right in the title and in the comments. lol
anywho, record pools are supposed to make you feel like you're part of a community or some shit.

DJcity does need to up the quality standards. I use it as my main pool and fill in the gaps with 8th wonder.
But I'm with you guys, recently there's been a glut of trash on djcity.
I also think that they need to separate remixes into another category or area.
I will also be writing to them.

I think a lot of people are looking for hits and there's none to be found...end of year promotional budgets(or lack of) are forcing most companies to just release as much stuff as possible without a lot of promotion...gotta dig...go back a few months...I think thats why DJ City and other pools are pumping out remixes, because the same old version of <insert formerly hot pop song here or any other song that is a recurrent here> isn't reacting as well as it was and there's nothing thats much hotter right now...
I enjoy DMS, but its not for everyone...

I dont know if its a problem really, but the other thing i see wrong (which i will probably be flamed for..) is that anyone can submit to these pools. I just listen to the radio now and days to hear what is how and what is not. Being in LA, we get to hear alot of the stuff the labels really wanna push. Random rotation are the major radio stations which i do not care to name, but I might think of going back a step in technology and look for a record pool that releases songs on cds, like once a month with all the stuff labels are pushing.

Same here, Latenight was offering a free trial and I admit it is a pretty good pool, definitely worth mentioning here but like Dub said a little steep in price compared to some of the other pools mentioned here.
The Old School Sunday thing is pretty damn nice and he does get some stuff first, but not enough to get me to switch from idjpool.com
Again, for sheer volume of music (hits plus music U can BREAK as a DJ) and quality (bit rate, tagging, multiple versions, organization, etc) idjpool wins hand down.
PS: latenight ceo - review is coming soon, been busy.

man...all you dj's do is wine wine wine.. raise your hand if you were ever in a VINYL record pool before! remember those ?? You had to pay $60 to $100 a month! You might get 5 good records out of the 50 they gave you for the month then there would be times a pool gets serviced with a hot record but they'd only have limited copies so you would only get 1 or none!
If thats not worse you had to do these annoying ass charts every month, and if you didn't do them your membership might be revoked.
Digital pools make things so much easier! Plus a site like DJ city lets you dig into the archives all the way back to early 07 i think. If you were in a vinyl pool you were lucky to get the scraps from two months before.
Bottom line is you will always get wack music in a record pool. Is that the pools fault? NO! It's your opinion and maybe that state of music at the moment. Some months will be better than others. Last but not least if you feel like your not getting your money's worth than find a different resource. Plenty of blog, file sharing sites, and torrents with new music.

Well said man. Some guys in my town are still in the local vinyl pool that has gone "digital". One popped up at my club 2 weeks ago, $90 per month and bring your own USB stick.
We talked for a second, but once he dissed Serato in favor of Virtual DJ I tuned him out.

Sup Fellas, I'm DJCity's Music Director. I'm a regular DJ also based out of LA & I definately keep my eye out on the forum topics. I use a variety of sources like this site, billboard charts, member feedback, television, radio, e-mailed request, etc to decide what new music to post up daily.
Not advertising on this forum is something we do by choice. I come to the forum read up on new technology & music ideas that you guys discuss on a regular instead. Serato revolutionized the game & we are just like every other aspect of the music industry that needed to adapt.
Most of you are actually right on the money about the reason behind the increase remixes. If your in the music business & deal with these labels also, then you'll probably notice slower service in the 4th quarter from artists & new music. Our members are global & the exposure you get from submitting & having your track posted on our site is huge. We like to give some fresh names a chance to shine if the remix is something we feel our members may use. You'd be surprised about the kind of stuff we turn away.
In any event, the new music will start coming in as fast as before come new years. As the summer gets closer you'll see an even bigger increase. For now, the idea of putting our exclusives in a separate section is something that our IT guys are adding to the upcoming upgrade. The search option that these guys have created is something I'm positive you'll all be very pleased with.
Feel free to hit me up directly anytime. Comments, suggestions, feedback is always taken into consideration & appreciated. My direct e-mail is Phenom@djcity.com
O, keep me posted if you guys do that whole LA session you mentioned in one of the other topics. Be glad to come through & cut it up with you guys..

I think most people have the wrong idea about record pools...it ain't about the hits you can download (or back in the day, picking up) that are hitting right now...its about future hits and breaking music...even though there are no "apparent" hits right now, I bet good money there is a few hits on all the services that are only a few months away from reaching "hit status"...
I am willing those of you that were in vinyl pool would pick up your stuff and go "hey whats this crap?"....then 5 months later you are diggin thru and going "wow, I had this months ago"...I spent so much time telling members "We already got that"...it became annoying...
I remember getting early Nas, Cash Money records, Outkast, Death Row, tons of dance records...peeps were always sleepin...and it hasn't changed much...

My problem is I haven't run across any "Future Hits" in a long time. Its probably ben atleast 6 months since Ive come across anything new to really "Break" besides already establised artist like beyoncee or kanyee. Another point is who many dj's really have the balls to break new artist. From my vantage point alot of dj's i hear r just commercial dj's. Wheres the underground?

I think you guys are missing the point. DJCity was putting all these bootleg remixes on their site making it hard to distinguish from the official releases thus making it harder to find new shit to break. I don't want to have to sift through a thousand remixes of Single Ladies to get to some truly new shit.

We still run the Vinyl Pool, though we have only 4 DJs left when 2 years ago we were 25 strong. The game has changed, music has changed, the quality of music has most definitely changed.
I like the fact somebody brought up the fact of breaking music and old releases. As a vinyl pool of 5 years I can tell you we didn't have any extra to dish out, there was a such a limited supply it was get it when you can....now everyone expects all the old school and all the hits. It's just all around a different time, i think we have adapted well....but i ask everyone
Whatever happened to diggin? Is it a truly lost artform?

But seriously, it's not that bad as some of you make it out to be with complaints about "too many" remixes. Our jobs as DJs is to sort the good music from the bad. I don't think that's the pool's job, especially since DJs are not homogeneous (no homo) in their tastes and styles. A pool can't and shouldn't assume too much about what songs are good and will work for our crowds -- again, that's our (the DJ's) job.
My two pesos.

^^ Ya, I spend 1/2 of every day sorting thru good and bad music, looking for the next hit or the next track that will set apart from others. It sucks when we play hits in the club that never make it to radio, but at least you arent the same as the radio all the time.

I can see it being a lot harder for DJs who also have full-time jobs, what with having to spend time sorting through songs and shit like that, but on the other hand we have each other (no homo) to share information on what's hot.

i think djcity should focus more on putting some older tracks on there since there isnt much new music to add.

They rarely if ever add old stuff, only around new album drops of same artist or holidays.

You know the music industry (Major Labels) traditionally shut down after Thanksgiving, and pick up again in January. New stuff should be flowing soon.

yep... thats my problem. I wish they had someone who can file these new songs into potential hit categories and potential flop categories....... it doesn't have to be worded like that of course but unless your single and u dj full time, who has time to sort through all this stuff.
