hi i have a slight delay between my speakers and my headphones, the headphones are about quarter of a beat quicker than the speakers and it makes cueing a song very difficult to do, i have 2x numark ndx400 players, numark m4 mixer, and Samsung surround sound for the speakers. do you have any suggestions on what it could be, or any advice? thanks :)

I think this is pretty typical, and why monitors can be important. With enough practice and no monitor, you should be able to at least "match" the beat to get the pitch set right, then put the headphones on and preview both your incoming and outgoing channels at the same time to get them actually in sync, then switch over to "master" instead of cue for the headphone source while you actually mix it in... that's what I do when I'm at home at night and can't actually "play" the music I'm streaming or mixing in the house, gets pretty easy and you don't have to rely on monitors when you're out either.

Then again, if we're talking about Serato, you can also use the waveform views to help line up the beats once you get the beats matched. You could use the method I mentioned above without any visual tools though. I don't understand a lot of "omg dont use SYNC" button complains in general, with even just the visual feedback something like Serato gives you, live bpm's, waveforms, it's really not that much different except your using a slider instead of a button. With serato, if you watch the screen, you could mix without even hearing the output if you have your cue points set right.

turn off any surround or effects on your stereo. if there is a "cd through" button or something use that.

If you want to do it right then you'll need proper monitors which are very different from your regular speakers. Studio monitors allow you to listen to the music from a very short distance without hurting your ears. Also great for mixing and listening to music in general.

The surround sound adds delay to the rear channel speakers. Buy a cheap pair of monitors.

It's your amp.
A lot of digital surround amps will have a bit of delay in them which makes it useless for Djing.
Get a new amp or better still, get a dedicated analog setup for Djing - even a boombox with RCA ins will be better.

Also, turning off the surround on your amp might fix it, but it might now - I had a Sony amp that retained the delay even when running in stereo mode.

The best solution to delay of booth vs. Headphone issues is to use the right Headphones and depending on the type of signal and mixer you are using ANALOG-DIGITAL will depend on what type of headphones you should be using. Once you find the perfect headphone that produce what you are looking for in the cue, depending how technically accurate you are set with in your precision mixing, you simply use a female to male quarter inch cable adapter on your headphones coming out of the mixer. A rough guess on a quarter best delay would be a 10 foot length but there are companies that make special lengths for your specifications to precise within your cue.

We don't recommend connecting via Bluetooth as there is a chance of latency. Likewise, if you are connected to a home stereo with any audio processing or audio decoding (like Dolby or THX) it may also introduce latency
