Curse you iDJPool! Curse you 5,373 times!!!!!!!!

sixxx 9:57 AM - 15 November, 2008
Yup. Thanks to the power of iDJPool huge music library, now I only have 5,373 songs to fix. lol

Yeah, I've been trying to catch up.

Why so many you ask? Well, the quality is 320 (I've said it so many times) so it's not like I didn't have the songs (for the most part)... is the fact that I have doubles and I'm replacing lower quality for 320kbps quality.

:)

Yes. I'm hating for making my library super duper quality wise.

Who else is with me?
sixxx 10:02 AM - 15 November, 2008
Btw, as of today, my library consists of 43,406 songs.
sixxx 10:03 AM - 15 November, 2008
and 6,555 videos which still need to be tagged properly. :(
lofty 12:46 PM - 15 November, 2008
I have about 5000 to retag (and more than 1/2 of them are from idj).
I started ripping my cd's 10 years ago and 128 was good, now I'm redoing EVERYTHING to 320. I don't know if I'll ever rip my records

I found that making playlists in years and then working backwards seems a little less overwhelming.

Now the doubles is pissing me off - I have my old crap at 128 and new stuff at 320, but I can't just delete all the old ones in case I haven't got a good copy of it yet.

Sixxx, how much is iDJpool VIP so I can have access to the backcatalog right away?
a DJ 2:58 PM - 15 November, 2008
^ anyone can answer that lol, I just addressed sixxx cuz he wont stop talkin about it

I'll burn the full back cat over 76 dvd and post them to ya for $2:P
a DJ 4:18 PM - 15 November, 2008
lol no thanks.. seriously how much is it? Can I pay $30 for only hiphop, or do I have to pay for VIP? I'm only gonna be downloading backcatalog of hiphop/rap. Also you get access to the backcatalog right away, right?
sixxx 6:14 PM - 15 November, 2008
I believe is $300 or 6 months worth of full VIP subscription. I'll tell you something, all the time that it has saved me from ripping vinyl is worth all that and more.
a DJ 6:16 PM - 15 November, 2008
Can I just sign up for one month at $50?
DJ Sniffles 6:32 PM - 15 November, 2008
LOL a DJ...you are the reason
sixxx 9:00 PM - 15 November, 2008
Sniffles is right... I mean, you can sign up but won't have access to vip until 6 months from now. It's designed that way to avoid hit and runs.

If all you need/want is urban, then it's $25.00 I think.
dead serious 9:24 PM - 15 November, 2008
are the mp3s tagged properly? how are they tagged and how do they show up in itunes?
sixxx 10:33 PM - 15 November, 2008
They're tagged just like you would see on a cd....

Everyone taggs their stuff differently, so this is tagged basically in a standardized way.

Song (radio)
Song (dirty)
Song (instrumental)
Song (acapella)
Song (sniffles eats penis remix)

etc.

lol

-----

Lofty,

When I started with serato more than 4 years ago, I had ripped all my cd's at 192 cause I had a 120gig hd. Now with drives so much cheaper, I've redone all to 320.

DJcity does 256 but I think iDJPool's choice of 320 is great.
stevie o 11:41 PM - 15 November, 2008
whats the advantages of using idjpool vs franchise. I have been using franchise for a long time but would switch if something was better.
sixxx 11:49 PM - 15 November, 2008
What's the quality on Franchise?
How do you download tracks?
Do you have to preview and give a review before you download?

I would start by answering those questions....

Remember, I don't work for iDJPool, but I highly recommend a product I think is good. And, shit on something I think is bad... lol

lol yeah I know, I'm a straight up mooch. But Im not gonna stay in a pool just because I wanna get access to their backcatalog. I would still be a mooch, just a stupid mooch for waiting so long before getting them. I like mymp3pool because they're fairly fast with all the versions of a song and they make intros for a lot of em. Their throwbacks aint bad but they dont put enough. They do have fast ass downloads, and it's real easy. You dont gotta review, but you still can if you want to. Sixxx I dont know why you complain about the speed of downloading. If iDJpool is as slow as everyone says it is, then you dont save that much time. Clicking on a webpage link is really not that bad. It doesnt take too much time. You do it all the time on the forum. I think having to leave your computer on is worse.

There is one thing about mp3pool, which happens at every pool. All the tracks are at 320 and there are some that obviously sound like they are not 320. It's very rare, and usually on songs that are rarer. For example, the latest one was E-40 ft T-Pain - Give Her the Keys. I doubt it's the official mix of the song. It sounds like a rip of Box Kev's website lol, which is where I first heard the song. Us DJs know the other places to get the song, why waste our time giving us crappy quality rips and then try to insult us by converting it to a higher bitrate when it's obviously lower? Every single pool does this though. And if iDJpool does it, I'm sure there's a few songs, just like mymp3pool. All the other songs off the new E-40 album sound great, except for Turf Drop, which was never released in good quality with Lil Jon. The one I got on Amazon with the Beastie Boys sample was a lot better than any version I got from a pool. At least 8thwonder and worksessions kept it at 192, mymp3pool has it at 256 and it sounds the same lol. Whatever I still like mymp3pool better than both those places.
wilkins820 5:50 AM - 16 November, 2008
i acxtually just bailed on iDjpool cuz the music overload was overwhelming.

and having to d-load it before i could preview?
fuck that.

i know many won't agree w/me on this but i was just deleting so g'damn much music that i didn't want nor need.

i wasn't keeping enough to see the point.

and i don't have any need to be the guy w/the song before everyone else.

oh well, i guess.
a DJ 6:07 AM - 16 November, 2008
^ Yeah thats another thing about iDJpool. Downloading before even listening takes even more time. Sure, for some songs you can get a low quality preview on youtube but that's a lotta wasted time either way.

And I take that back on E-40 Give Her The Keys.. I think they just fucked up the mixing. It sounds like they sent the beat over on MP3 a few times LOL. The voices sound good, but all the beat lacks highs. With Turf Drop, everything just sounded all meshed together. But I think the label just never released the Lil Jon version in good quality. I still seem to remember mymp3pool doing that on some other songs. Either way, they get more songs in way better quality than 8thwonder and way more versions. And its a lil better quality than worksessions. But worksessions is just so slow compared to all the other pools, and they dont do too many intros.

with the speed of DL now I just grab a ton of tracks an preview it after I get it, If I don't like it I delete it, if it's good I add it to My library

I used to go to the record store and grab 2-3 crates of records and spend hours previewing stuff, now I just do it at home.

It almost seems like people are getting lazy. ""I want just the good tracks that will pack my floor and have them magically appear in a playlist.""

Digging for tracks is now digital, (and easier). We just need to change a bit how we do things.

I hated when I would miss out grabbing a record (cause I thought it sucked) . Then it's the hottest piece of crap that everyone wants, and you can't get a copy of it.
Now if you don't download something and need it, you can just grab it next time. I actually have an internet connection at every gig so if I'm missing something and feel like plying it I'll just grab it from Amazon, Itunes or IDJ.

One other thing not to forget about iDJPool is you need a FTP program to download and they only allow ONE song download at a time. I'll take multiple links and a download manager ANY day over this.

This couldn't be any more wrong. Actually, you drag as many songs as you want and download those or you can even download an entire folder by dragging a folder. It's the same as if you were on your computer moving files to say an external hard drive.

As far as saving time, clicking and downloading may be faster, but it's overkill when you have to do it 1000 times for 1000 songs. I just drag a folder with 1000 songs and walk away. Yeah. The download is slow, but I don't have to babysit the computer. I don't have to click on anything. Just drag to my download folder and walk away.

------

wilkins820, yeah... the new music is overwhelming and that's the way it should be. If you look at all the new music that comes out (crappy or not), it's a lot! That's how a record pool should be.

------

Sometimes I have no time to preview anything, but I just download my songs and import them into iTunes and put a (fixnow) tag on it so I know what I still need to fix. It needs to be on the library regardless if I have fixed it or not because I've had it happened to me where someone will request a new song and I have not heard of it yet, but guess what? It's in my library already. lol

Well, unless I have a different membership, you are only allowed to download ONE song at a time -- you can NOT download multiple songs at the SAME time as you can with clicking multiple links and use a download manager. I apologize if that was misunderstood.

I will agree the positive is that you can set-it and forget-it with the drag and drop a folder to your download section BUT, it will download one song at a time.
sixxx 10:39 PM - 16 November, 2008
Yeah. I misunderstood what you meant. Sorry about that. Yeah, FTP works that way but that's just how FTP works, nothing that can be done about it I suppose.

165 gigs???? Damn. That's a lot of music.
DJ Art Pumpin Payne 10:42 PM - 16 November, 2008
I have no idea what happened but I upgraded my Desktop Mac to Leopard and now I am getting about 250 - 300kbs download now, about a song per minute at 320 bitrate. Just select what I want, drag, drop, done - and do something else while it downloads.

I said it when I first started telling people about this pool, it is TRULY - TOO MUCH MUSIC.

Again, it is a good thing, ALMOST never having to NEED anything because it was serviced via the Pool, but the only bad thing is digging thru quantity for the gems and necessities.

It reminds me of the vinyl days, when you had the Hot 20 or 40 records on the wall that you KNOW you needed, but you also had to dig in the Bins to see what else was there. At the digital pool prices ($30 per month) - too much music sure beats the hell out of buying releases ala- carte.
sixxx 10:46 PM - 16 November, 2008
I think the problem is that people don't understand record pools cause they have never been a part of one. A lot of newbies to the game just want the hits and nothing more. lol

I wish I was getting 250-300kbs download speed. Mine starts at 120+ and goes all the way to like 37K or around there. I really don't care. I just walk away and do other things. This is why I wouldn't be able to handle click/download per song as it is time consuming in itself even if the actual download speed is faster.

It actually does make a little difference if you play a lot of 320's. I had some 128's and some 192's of some older stuff along side some 320's and even when I play at the little ghetto Bar I can hear a difference.

The Subs sound "fuller" and mids and highs are not as "tinny". On the lower bitrates I have to adjust the gain a bit more to keep the sound "equal". That is just the Hot Garbage radio stuff, with House on a "good system" it's a whole 'nother level.
sixxx 2:53 AM - 17 November, 2008
Yeah. 320 vs 192 really makes a difference especially on a good system.

The best thing to do is just go with a firewire external. I have a 1 terabite (plus another one as its backup) that holds all my music and videos.

One of the great advantages of having an external is that if the computer dies, you can just plug it in to another one and you're ready to go. Also, when gigging, you can just use your external with someone's computer who is already playing. No switching laptops.

This will probably start something...but it has to be said...anybody heard of re-encoding....

Don't get hung up on something just because it's 320 it has to be ripped from the source at 320, if not...it's just a 128 kpbs mp3 that looks like 320 but doesn't sound like it.

i guess what i was trying to say is FOR ME, the overload of music was just too much for me to deal with.

i've been to record stores back in the day and when there is too much shit i end up glancing over stuff and passing it up cuz something else "looks" better.
i can't tell what a song sounds like by the record case but that's how i judged 'em.

w/ idjpool, it just had an insane amount of different versions for one song that i would just say fuck it and skip it.

that's just me. i'm different like that. too many options and i steer away.

when there's just a few songs, i'll check 'em all out.

so anyway
