It says Hardware Disconnected in Serato DJ Intro when my Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 is connected to my laptop. Serato DJ Intro has worked fine for about 2 months up to now but does not work. Please help.

Hey Josh Odger,
Has anything recently changed on your system or with your setup? Also do you have any other USB devices connected when you use your Mixtrack Pro II?
Does the controller light up when it is connected? If not try connecting it to another USB port or try using another USB cable.
Let me know how you go,
Cheers, Sam

No I don't think nothing has changed with my setup how do I check this? and no I do not have any other USB devices connected when I use my Mixtrack pro II.
Yes the controller lights up when is connected.
I have tried connecting it to another USB port that does not work.

I was just checking if you had performed an update recently on Serato DJ or on the firmware of your controller. Or if you have recently changed any of your system's audio preferences.
Can you try navigating to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager. Open this up and scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and expand this section. When you plug in your controller does a device show up here under "USB Composite Devices"?
Also could you please give me the full specs of your laptop?
Let me know how you go,
Cheers, Sam

Hey Josh,
Follow this step by step guide here: serato.com
We are based in New Zealand (GMT+12) and I'm generally here from 9am till 5pm.
Alright, I got a couple things to try, please ensure the Serato software is CLOSED.
Just incase your computer is trying to use the controller as a sound device instead of a MIDI device, go to your desktop and down in the bottom right hand corner right click on the sound icon in the system tray. Click playback devices. Make sure that your soundcard is set to "Default Device" not your controller.
Try opening Serato again.
Also do you have any other USB devices connected? Like an external harddrive or mouse?

Just to be sure your computers Soundcard was set to default device, NOT your MixTrack II.
Ok, Can you please right click on your computer, click on "manage", once again go to "device manager" in the left hand column, open the "universal serial bus controllers" drop down menu again.
Highlight one of the "USB Composite Devices" and then unplug and replug your controller so you can determine which one is for your MixTrack (either the first or second one will disappear and reappear on the list).
Once you have figured out which one it is, right click on it and select uninstall. once this is done disconnect your controller, then reconnect it. Wait while windows reinstalls the drivers, it may take a moment.
Once windows has reinstalled the drivers could you please upload another screenshot of the "Device Manager" open with the "Universal Serial Bus" and "Sound, Video and Game controllers" sections expanded.
Let me know how you go,
Cheers, Sam

Alright, we should make sure that your controller is functioning as a sound device as well. Go to your desktop and down in the bottom right hand corner right click on the sound icon in the system tray. Click playback devices. This time make sure that your controller is set to "Default Device".
Connect your speakers to the master output on you Mixtrack Pro. Play a song on your computer using iTunes or another media player. Do you get audio output through your Mixtrack? you will only hear it through the master, not the headphones.

I don't use the master output on my Mixtrack Pro 2, I have not yet bought speakers, I only use the headphones. Is there anything else I can do?

I have this cable - gyazo.com - Is there anything I can do with his cable? this goes in to my master output.

You could try connecting that to an AUX in on your home stereo? Or you cold even run an RCA cable from the master out to an audio input on your TV.
Josh Odger

Yes when I play through the master output with iTunes it works, still says Hardware Disconnected in Serato Intro. What should I do now?

Thanks for checking that out Josh,
Ok, now we need to make sure that your controller is sending MIDI signals to your computer.
Could you please set your soundcard back to default and download and install this program here: www.midiox.com
Once it is installed open it up and connect your controller. Follow the instructions here: serato.com Go to Options > MIDI Devices and double-click on your MIDI controller on the left both for MIDI Inputs AND MIDI Outputs.
Now press a button on your controller. When you press the button down a MIDI line should come up, when you let go of the button another line should appear. This should happen for every button on your MixTrack. The knobs and sliders will send slightly different values but the main thing we want to find out here is if your controller is sending MIDI signals at all.
Give it a shot and let me know how you go, upload screenshots of the MIDI output if its easier for you.
Cheers, Sam

I just wanted to make sure that you were clicking the correct inputs and outputs.
You should be able to see the image now.
I'm gonna have a chat to other guys here and try and figure out what the issue is.

Hey Josh,
Thanks for you patience. So, it looks to me like there is a problem with the MIDI drivers that windows uses to operate the MixTrack. If they were normal drivers we would be able to remove them and reinstall them quite easily. However the MixTrack II is class compliant so it runs off a basic MIDI driver that is included in windows.
I've been trying to find a tool provided by microsoft just to update that specific driver but it is proving to be quite difficult. I will keep searching for you but in the mean time if you wanted to try a fix it right away you could always reinstall windows or restore your operating systems factory settings? Make sure you backup the stuff you need on your computer before you try this.

Hey Josh,
It would also be a good idea to check if your controller works on another computer so we can determine if it is a problem with the MIDI information being sent by the controller, or the MIDI information being read by your computer.
Cheers, Sam

Hey Josh,
I have been looking for a fix for you and I have seen a similar error with a windows user trying to get Novation Dicers to work, another class compliant device, he was getting the same errors in MIDI-OX.
This is the process that was followed to fix it for him, it is very important that you follow the instructions exactly: avid.force.com
Now before attempting this fix I would recommend backing up what you need from your harddrive as modifying the system registry and making incorrect changes can damage your system and you may have to reinstall your operating system.
Let me know if it works for you,
Cheers, Sam

If this process did not work can you please get me a screenshot of the regedit screen just after you use the find function to locate "4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318".
It should look similar to the picture I have uploaded.
