Hi

Can anyone tell me how to connect from my Macbook Pro Mini DisplayPort to RCA?

The only options I have found require USB to power them and I'm already using the 2 USB ports (1 for Serato and 1 for MIDI control).

This is to play video via a projector in a Nightclub, any help appreciated.

You need a scan converter, ones like the QuickPlay do run off USB power so you'll either need a powered hub, or get one which has its own power supply (I use the Kramer VP-501xl.

Another option is to get a simple USB charger like you'd use for a phone, and power the converter from the mains.

Hi Phatbob

Thanks for the advise , that all makes sense.

Just one more question, I've checked online and scan convertors range from £30 to over £700, should I avoid the cheaper models (would I notice a big difference?)

Thanks for your help!

I bought one of the proper cheap no-name ones that you find all over Amazon and eBay, the one with the hump on it.

It is a bit crap TBH.

I think you need to spend a bit more to get decent quality if you want to use it regularly or often.

I love my Kramer, it's so industrial it feels like it will out-live me. Would I have paid £300 for it? Nah, can't justify it.

There was a guy on UK eBay selling the Kramer, he must have a box full as they're new and sealed, I scored mine off him for £80 (he auctions them).

See if he's still about, maybe...

But yeah, I'd recommend spending a few quid. Not £700 though unless you're loaded!

Does the projector only have rca output? The easiest solution would be to have the club buy a new projector that has vga or hdmi. This way all you'll need is a vga adapter or hdmi with correct cable'ing.

Hi ShaunHughes,

Phatbob is right here, scan converter would be the way to go for doing this job, although alternatively you could double check that are no other inputs on the projector you could use? Might save you a bit of coin..

Otherwise I could move this into Video SL General Discussion, Im sure other users there will be able to provide helpful advice on buying a scan converter too :)

Hi All

Thanks for all your advice, the projector has a VGA connector so this weekend I tried running a VGA cable (30 metres) from the Mac to the projector but it won't work, if I put the projector in video mode I get nothing, if I put the projector in computer mode it works as a monitor displaying what ever is on the computer screen.

I'll try playing around with settings this week, if it doesn't work them I'll invest in a decent scan convertor.

It wold be nice to get this sorted, at the moment I use DVJ1000's for video so I have to swap back and forth between Serato and DVD's.

Again, thanks for your help.

Keep that VGA cable, you just need to change your settings on the mac:

^ He's right all you need to do is "uncheck" mirroring in your display settings. Done!

be sure that your mac laptop is in extended desktop mode and be sure to drag the VSL window to the second screen and then hit "fullscreen" to display image. Here are some threads on this subject

Thanks guys, really helpful stuff :)

ShaunHughes, if you got it to connect and show whats on your computer screen, then you shouldn't have problem using it for Video-SL just set it up as a secondary monitor by following the link phatbob has posted.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Computer mode is pretty much standard for a projector. Your in the right field you just need to "uncheck" mirroring on your mac. ---> serato.com

At first I didn't get the bit about dragging the output screen to the secondary screen.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advise.
