Just wanted to let everyone know that it seems that OSX 10.5.4 (and possibly 10.5.3) has fixed the USB dropout issue on Macs (at least on my iMac).
I recently picked up a 2.66GHz iMac and was all excited to start spinnin' with a nice big screen and wireless keyboard! Then I heard about the issue with OSX 10.5.2 (which it came with) and was obviously disapointed... but I tried it at home and it seemed OK. I wasn't planning to play out with it right away but my iBook finally gave up on me and was left with no choice but to use it for a gig. Sure enough, I started hearing the audio drop outs. Only a fraction of a second here and there but enough to have everyone stare at you like, "why'd you do that"?
Well, I just upgraded to OSX 10.5.4 and played with it for several hours without a single hiccup! I even left my Airport and Bluetooth on and no probs. I tried using every USB port and even with an external USB drive... no problems! I then updated SSL to 1.8.2 and its working great (thankfully, 'cause I only have bluetooth keyboard and mouse). My whole idea was to have the screen off to the side of the tables and the keyboard up on my laptop stand (although the keyboard is so small it actually sits perfectly on my Numark 5000FX mixer). Anyways, its working great!
