i have a brand new mac book os x 10.5.4
i will work offline sometimes organizing playlists in my itunes and i tried refrencing serato while doing this. no hardware is connected to serato. i can do what i need to with serato while it is open, but when i try to close it, it freezes up on me and i have to manually shut the computer down bc/ force quit will not work.

i use an external hard drive for my music and itunes. a 300 gig lacie firewire formatted for mac extended journaled.

so why does serato keep freezing up and i have to shut down the whole system?

What version of SSL are you running? Also, when you shut down SSL without the external plugged in -- does it still do this?

scratch live version 1.8.1

by external do you mean hardware? i have not even connected it yet. i will be using itunes and click the scratch live shortcut icon in my dock at the bottom of my screen and it will open. and i can do what i want. but when i try to exit, it freezes and gives me the beachball and i have to shut it down.

i have a brand new mac book with 4 gigs of ram. this should not be happening.

i was not aware of the problems with mac and this scratch live product.

what is the solution here?

one note- i notice that when i initially open the program, this is all that is on the screen and i cannot access the toolbar (dock) at the bottom of my screen and i cannot control the size of the window or screen, until i click the green + button in the top left corner of the scratch screen. then i can access my dock and control the screen around scratch.

does this make any sense?

I mean your external HD -- when you disconnect it and then try to shut down SSL -- do you still get the beachball?

No other digital DJing program runs better than a Mac and ScratchLIVE.

If you have ScratchLIVE set to read the iTunes library, it is not a good idea to be tweaking iTunes while SSL is open. This may cause both programs to not respond properly.

Do you have iTunes set to copy to and read from your external HD?

Also, when SSL is set to fullscreen, thats exactly what it will do -- it will fill the entire screen and cover the icons at the botton. You will just have to click + to make the icons appear.

OH!
yes i have all of my music organized through itunes on my EHD. and i am always constantly tweaking the playlists. and i had been trying to go back and forth between Mixed in Key, Itunes and Serato programs to monitor inconsistencies.

this may be an issue.

the starter guide said that i can create my own "serato library" i am wondering if this is the way to go. i just today started using "smart playlists" in itunes to organize music by genre. THIS IS HELPING IMMENSELY.

i am like a crack addict. i hate itunes, BUT I NEED IT! if there was a better way to "WAL-MART" my music i would be all over that. but honestly if i have to manage a serato library AND an itunes library, i cannot handle it.

thank you for your prompt responses.
i will try not tweaking itunes while serato is reading it and if it will still not close i will try to disconnect the EHD first.

thank you,

hi, serato is still freezing up. once when itunes was open and another while it was closed

it is also not removing files that i want deleted or removed from my serato library. i have the library option to read my itunes and i do not have protect library selected. i try command delete, shift command delete, etc. and nothing works. there are .mpg that get stuck in the build overview cycle and i cannot remove them. i restart and search for them and try to remove them and that does not work either.

what is going on here?

please help

i think it was bc/ i did not use the install disc but just the new update. that is strange bc/ i was still able to use it.

So is everything better now? Also, if you're having SSL read iTunes, then in order to delete a song you would have to move or delete it from iTunes first, then SSL.
