I hooked everything up today to prep for a gig on Thursday and twice in 15 minutes the video closed but SSL continued to play the audio. I looked at the desktop to find a message from windows saying something like runtime error c:\program files\serato\scratchlive\video-sl.exe has experienced a problem and has unexpectedly shut down, something like that. I'm running a DV9910US laptop and The newest SSL and VSL on Windows Vista (32).. Anyone know where I should start on trying to fix this.

The newest version of video-SL, meaning 1.0.2?

Have you tried the 1.8.2 beta? If not. download the 1.8.2 beta and see if that helps resolve your problem -->> www.scratchlive.net

Try installing this upgrade then run VSL and see what happens.

See here: www.microsoft.com

Also have you ran thru the vista optimization guide?

Vista comes set-up for a wide spectrum of users, hence the user interface is designed to look attractive, play nice sounds and provide the best web browsing multimedia experience it can. Due to all it's bells and whistles Vista has a higher system overhead than it's predecessor XP and on lower spec'd machines can provide less than optimal performance when running a realtime application like Scratch LIVE.

At the time of writing Serato is still recommending Windows XP over Vista for our products due to it's lower system overheads. Check the forum for up-to-date information on recommendations. However many manufacturers are now shipping new machines with Vista pre installed by default and more users are choosing to make the switch.

If you've purchased a new PC with Vista pre installed or you have up-graded your OS to Vista recently you may not be aware there are several changes you can make to optimise Vista for running Scratch LIVE or ITCH. This guide doesn't cover absolutely everything you can do to maximise realtime audio performance on a Vista machine but is intended as a good starting point. Those who are hardcore tweakers there are several web sites with further in-depth information that we link to at the end of the article.

This is a great place to start for someone whom only knows what they can see about their computer.. Thank you for the info but all this and more has been done. I am a advanced Windows and Dos user, knowing that, do you have any more recomendations?

Did the Redistributable Package make a difference SirG?
DJ_SirG 9:36 AM - 12 September, 2008
no. Im lucky if I make it threw 1 video.....
I did find a C++ Redistributable Package 2008 ( www.microsoft.com )but I wont know till Friday night at my house gig if it helps or not.

I find if I have VSL on, It don't matter if i'm playing a video or not. I still get the runtime error.

Looks as if you guys have ginen u on me...
Well I think I fixed it but im not shure how.
I changed sevral things at the same time so I dont know exactly what one thing or combination of things participated in fixing the problem. It worked better then it ever had in the past last night. Load time was faster then one could blink and videos on projector and (for the first time ever) on my laptop looked great with no lag and no drop outs while loading cued video to non playing deck.
My projector resalution was 720 X 480 and changing it to 800 X 600 (closer to native)only made it worse causing video lag, chop and dropouts. I went to my nvidia settings and disabled the "verticle sync" under global settings.
You can do this in Vista and XP relativly the same way.

START -> CONTROL PANEL -> NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL -> MANAGE 3D SETTINGS scrole down your global list and you will see it there. Force off

I then lowered the video quality setting in SL (never helped in the past) to one under defauld and turned off Vsync there as well just for good mesure.

I reinstalled SL again

I reinstalled VSL again
