serato dj 1.1.2.5 has a small bug. when turning on the sx unit and loading serato the fx selecter lights on channel 1 & 2 light up red and are set to fx1 & fx2 respectivly by default. however on the latest version of serato the light fx selector on channel 1 is off by default yet channel 2 fx selecter is on properly. pressing the button a few times in a row gets the light back on and working normaly.
this is a serato problem not firmware as downgraing to an earlier version of serato dj (1.1.0) fixed it. i tested with previous 1.0.2 and current 1.0.5 firmware yet it made no difference. so definaly a programming error on the new serato dj version.
thanks.

Hey Singhka,
Thanks for getting in touch,
I have done some testing here and cant seem to replicate the issue you are experiencing?
SERATO DJ 1.1.2(11205)
Pioneer Firmware: 1.05.
1. DDJ-SX, Windows 7 PC.
FX 1 light turns on for channel 1 when SDJ is launched.
FX 2 light turns on for channel 2 when SDJ is launched.
2. DDJ-SX Macbook Pro. OSX 10.8.3
FX 1 light turns on for channel 1 when SDJ is launched.
FX 2 light turns on for channel 2 when SDJ is launched.
Are you sure the light for that button is working correctly?
1. Launch SERATO DJ
2. Drop down the FX window and see if OUTPUT 1 is selected for FX 1.
-- If the output in SERATO DJ is selected it may be a faulty light on your unit.
-- If the output in SERATO DJ is selected do effects still run even though the FX 1 light above channel 1's fader is off?
3. If you plug into another USB port do you have the same issue?
(This has resolved a similar issue for another user)
1. Try a different USB port, it has resolved a similar issue for another user I have dealt with.
2. Try reinstalling the software.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks :)

iv attached a zip with a comparison videos of seratodj 111 vs 112 behavior and a screenshot showing that the fx is armed properly in the right slots in sdj 112.
the button works fine however the light isnt initially on even tho the fx is armed. hence why u see me press it twice to get the light to turn on because the button is actually initially already on, so its turned off at 1st press then turned on again at 2nd press at which point the light turns on and begins to work normally.
i have tried multiple usb ports and its always the same.
on an extra note, the sx works fine on my pcs 4 rear + 2 front usb 2.0 ports. however on my 2 rear + 2 front usb 3.0 ports the sx sound crackles even at he longest latency settings both thru driver & sdj. this also suggests the sx has a few problems with certain usb buses, chipsets & versions.
thanks!

theres the reg files.
btw i did the procedure. the settings all went to default, but the light behavior is the same. i dont think this is a setting because in the previous 1.1.1 version the light works normally during start up. its either a software change in this version or the hardware has an issue and i need to get my unit repaired/replaced. its definalty not firmware as upgrading and downgrading firmware and testing across different versions of serato dj dont change the behavior at all.

Hey Singhka,
Thanks for that information,
I totally understand where you are coming.
Its strange it works in Serato DJ 1.1.1 but with SERATO DJ 1.1.2 the light stays off.
Can we try the following two things please,
1. Repeat the regedit steps.
-- BUT this time can you RENAME the folder called "dj" (refer to step 8)
8)You will see a "dj" folder here
-- Firstly RIGHTCLICK and select EXPORT.
-- Export the file to your DESKTOP and name it "DJ Plist files old".
-- Rightclick on the "dj" folder again and select "RENAME"

-- Close the Window.
Do you still have the same FX light issue?
If so, can you try installing Serato DJ 1.1.2 onto another computer?
-- This will help determine if its your computer with the issue or the controller.
Thanks again for going through these troubleshooting steps for me, we are still testing these issues out here and this information you send back really helps us out. I really appreciate it :-)
Let me know how you get on this time.

Hey Singhka,
Thanks for that information,
This is very very strange...
It sounds like the SERATO software is launching correctly with FX1 and FX2 turned on?
But the DDJ-SX loads differently between versions of the software...
Just to clarify at the moment on both computers,
1. SERATO DJ 1.1.1 works correctly with the FX lights?
2. SERATO DJ 1.1.2 does not load up FX lights correctly?
Are we able to try a third computer?
Can we also try reset the unit back to factory settings.
-- This does not reset the firmware. But it resets everything else.
Follow these steps,
1. Power OFF the DDJ-SX
2. Disconnect USB cable from DDJ-SX
3. HOLD down Deck A's "SHIFT + DECK 1 button"
4. At the same time power the unit on.
5. Press both SYNC buttons at the same time.
6. Power OFF the unit.
7. Connect USB cable to computer.
8. Power on DDJ-SX.
9. Launch SERATO DJ 1.1.2
Does this resolve the issue?
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks.

i have tried now on a third computer. and i have tried the resetting the firmware many times actually one of the first things i tried. still the same behavior apparently. iv already tried reflashing with other previous bios versions but it does not change anything.
thats is correct 1.1.2 is the one that has the issue.
the fx are both in seratodj but on the sx ch2 light shows on with the light but ch1 remains off even tho the fx is on selecter 1. the function works its just the light.
just use my video again for a guide.
am i able to get my unit exchanged for another one if it cant be fixed. i bought mine brand new from a storedj au outlet.

Hey Singhka,
Thanks for that information,
We have come to the end of everything we can troubleshoot.
I would suggest you contact the retail store you purchased the DDJ-SX from for their thoughts.
1. Take your computer into the store with you.
-- Connect your computer to the store DDJ-SX demo model and see if the issue still happens?
-- This will help us determine if its your computer or the DDJ-SX that has the incorrect startup preference.
2. Connect your DDJ-SX to the store computer.
-- Does the FX light work correctly with SDJ 1.1.2?
Please let me know how you get on!
Thanks :)

ok look this investigation process is getting useless and is just wasting time. next thing ill be asked to fly over and demonstrate it.
i just received a BRAND NEW dell laptop today. guess what. i downloaded driver from pioneer, downloaded seratodj. and now even with the SAME settings the behavior has changed.
now both the fx lights on channel 1 & 2 dont come on during initial start up. but they are on in serato. if i press the buttons twice they start working normally again. (same behavior as before but now with both channels)
however when i plug back into my old pc it goes back to being just channel 1 lighting having the issue.
considering that that this issue was non existent in the previous versions or serato, this has to be a software problem. if u do take it seriously maybe take a look at the what changed from version to version. in the 1.1.2 update u guys made a number of changes to add to the stability of the sx. maybe look at code that deals with communication with the electronics or signals within the sx, im not sure.
the fact that im getting different behavior on different pcs that have the same os and software im actually beginning to doubt the reliability and future updates that come to using a computer based software controller for live use.
i doubt this is a pioneer issue. and looks like the hardware was finalized well before the software during the release frame.
i love the controller but the software is the thing that disappoints me, and did last time with itch. i know u guys like to use words like tight integration but its the small things here and there that make that saying a contradiction. my biggest was the pitch resolution display being knocked back.
even the answer, 'we dont know its ur computer for sure' and 'no we wont add more pitch resolution on the display in the next update' is good enough for me. i could return both the laptop & the sx for something like a djm-750 and cdj-850s after a spending a little more for it.

Hey Singhka,
As I said in my last comment, we have come to the end of what we can troubleshoot so you wont be asked to do anything else. Remember Im asking you these questions to try help you resolve the issue. Because the issue is rare and new we have to ask further questions to try understand it correctly... I know it can be frustrating. Thanks again for your time answering my questions. I do appreciate it.
I have tried to recreate your issue here on several machines.
I do not have the same issue you do. Both versions load fine for me.
Therefore it is NOT a software issue that every user out there is experiencing.
So its not as simple as looking at the differences between SDJ 1.1.1 and SDJ 1.1.2.
It could be a hardware issue, or it could be a software issue.
Either way Its only happening for a couple users, so it comes back to your specific computer settings and your specific hardware device.
1. Double check the USB cable.
2. Try installing the DDJ-SX driver while its connected to the USB port.
-- Do this for EVERY usb port.
-- It has resolved a strange issue for another user I have been dealing with.
The next best thing to do is go back to the retail store you purchased it from.
1. Test your computer SDJ 1.1.2 software with the stores DDJ-SX
-- Does the DDJ-SX light up correctly on start up?
-- If it loads correctly, this would point it back to your DDJ-SX not loading or receiving information correctly when its first connecting with SDJ.
2. Test your DDJ-SX with the stores computer.
-- Does the DDJ-SX light up correctly on start up?
-- This would point it back to your computer not sending information correctly to the DDJ-SX when its first connecting with SDJ.
Remember we are always working hard on improving our software. If you dont want to wait till the next update and this small issue is annoying you, then taking it back to the retail store is your best option now.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks.

also when computer products get released they have various issues that only affect different ppl in different situations, hardware combinations & software combinations. they correct those with driver and software updates. to say that because only a few ppl report therefore its not a software issue??
and have a think about it. if u guys are creating a software then dont you guys work towards making it work on many computer configurations instead of looking for quick or temporary fixes. The whole point of having a controller is so it universally works on many computer configs. u gota realize this is a portable device not a screw it down to the studio floor device. if i go somewhere and plug it into another comp id like it to work in the same way not have a different installation and setup procedure for each pc. iv already mention to u in my last post that i got a new laptop and the problem doubled on that particular pc. strange...
have a look at phone apps. just cos ppl on a specific model of phone report an error doesn't mean its the phones fault. the develops update test and so on. obviously this is alot more difficult as computers and their combinations are way more complex. but that doesn't mean it should be ignored as a possibility.
and if it isnt a software thing why on earth did the light work normally in ALL versions prior to 1.1.2???
and if i were to return it do i need a code or reference number from u guys?
cos even with the lights getting fixes iv still not got any word on the pitch resolution being displayed in a future update. which just simply wont fit my needs or wants. (we all have different needs and wants)
ps iv tried 4 pcs, every usb port on each pc.

im happy to wait for an update and it is a very small issue. but id like some information that it could be fixed in a future update. i asked the same thing about pitch rez display but nobody got back to me. if you could answer that yes or no this and that will happen during next update i wont need to jump up and down. im happy to wait for fixes and improvements but to know if it is a possibility for the next update.
like i said i iv been screwed around before. i complained about the eq n effects in itch. u guys responded yes we intend to improve this in future. almost 2 yrs later we got a new product and still no access to ur new software unless we buy the new product. and i dint think it would take almost another yr (looks like it atm) since sdj came out before old controllers would have support too.

Hey Singhka,
Firstly I am here to help you out. Im not here to argue about the situation you are in.
I agree its frustrating, I agree its strange, I also find it totally weird it works in previous versions of SDJ but the current one it doesn't...
I am not saying its not a software issue. Im saying its not a software issue EVERY user is experiencing, so its not as simple as comparing SDJ 1.1.1 code against SDJ 1.1.2.
There are a lot more variables here.
I totally agree, the unit is designed to be plug n play. When it connects with a computer / Macbook with Serato DJ it should load up the same for each computer. Which it is designed to do and does for me on several machines, all with different specs and operating systems.
1. On your first computer with SDJ 1.1.2 it only loads one FX light.
2. On the second computer with SDJ 1.1.2 it doesn't load any FX light.
YET the Serato software is launching with the correct settings.
FX 1 channel 1 on.
FX 2 channel 2 on.
This makes it sound like the software is launching correctly but the DDJ-SX is not.
So again, SERATO is launching correctly with the correct feature activated but for some reason with this version 1.1.2 (and your computers x2) The information is not getting to your controller correctly. Or the controller for some reason is not understanding the features that need to be turned on when the software first launches.
Its strange...
The best thing to do is get another DDJ-SX and test you computers out with that.
If the lights load correctly on it, this points it back to the hardware device...would you agree?
-- Does the DDJ-SX light up correctly on start up?
-- If it loads correctly, this would point it back to your DDJ-SX not loading or receiving information correctly when its first connecting with SDJ.
2. Test your DDJ-SX with the stores computer.
-- Does the DDJ-SX light up correctly on start up?
-- This would point it back to your computer not sending information correctly to the DDJ-SX when its first connecting with SDJ.
When it comes to features, things like Pitch resolution etc, you are best to drop a comment in the FEATURE REQUEST section on our forum. If other users out there support your idea it may be something we look at implementing. I dont have any other information on it sorry.
If you decide to go into a store and try a shop model DDJ-SX please get back to me with the results. I am keen to hear how you get on.
If you decide not to, I will let you know once a update becomes available to test.
Kind Regards,
Jamie
Firstly I am here to help you out. Im not here to argue about the situation you are in.
I agree its frustrating, I agree its strange, I also find it totally weird it works in previous versions of SDJ but the current one it doesn't...
Quote:
also when computer products get released they have various issues that only affect different ppl in different situations, hardware combinations & software combinations. they correct those with driver and software updates. to say that because only a few ppl report therefore its not a software issue??I am not saying its not a software issue. Im saying its not a software issue EVERY user is experiencing, so its not as simple as comparing SDJ 1.1.1 code against SDJ 1.1.2.
There are a lot more variables here.
Quote:
and have a think about it. if u guys are creating a software then dont you guys work towards making it work on many computer configurations instead of looking for quick or temporary fixes. The whole point of having a controller is so it universally works on many computer configs. u gota realize this is a portable device not a screw it down to the studio floor device. if i go somewhere and plug it into another comp id like it to work in the same way not have a different installation and setup procedure for each pc. iv already mention to u in my last post that i got a new laptop and the problem doubled on that particular pc. strange...I totally agree, the unit is designed to be plug n play.
Quote:
1. Test your computer SDJ 1.1.2 software with the stores DDJ-SX-- Does the DDJ-SX light up correctly on start up?
-- If it loads correctly, this would point it back to your DDJ-SX not loading or receiving information correctly when its first connecting with SDJ.
2. Test your DDJ-SX with the stores computer.

heres a set of comparison videos i did to further my investigation:
theres a zip with 4 videos attached.
*please not while the functions may be correct as the software controls the audio processing, its the light display that is not working and corresponding on the sx vs sdj.
SDJ 1.1.1 Startup: shows fx selector lights coming on correctly during initial sx startup & corresponds correctly with the settings in sdj.
SDJ 1.1.2 Startup: shows fx selector lights not coming on at all/correctly (sometimes only 1 of them does come on/random) & does not correspond correctly with the settings in sdj
SDJ 1.1.1 Open & Close: all 8 fx selectors are turned on while sx & sdj are running. sdj is then closed then opened again. all fx lights blink and reset back to correct default positions and corresponds correctly with the settings in sdj.
SDJ 1.1.2 Open & Close: all 8 fx selectors are turned on while sx & sdj are running. sdj is then closed then opened again. some fx lights remain on and some turn off and they do not blink & reset back to default positions and they dont correspond correctly with the settings in sdj.
my conclusion is that certain functions most notably the fx selector lights dont reset or refresh properly to what is actually set up on sdj. this suggests that in the newer 1.1.2 version there is a bug with the communication/detection/refresh certain functions lights or buttons within sdj.
1.1.1 works absolutely fine and in every scenario the lights and buttons actually correspond with what is in the sdj program. the lights actually all flicker then reset back to their correct positions.
looking at the change log 1.0, 1.1 and 1.1.1 had only minor feature changes. 1.1.2 had a number of bug and stability enchantments such as fixing dropouts and connection issues with the sx. i believe somewhere while correcting this issues between the sx & s1 some things got damaged or the fixes made had side effects.
this is all i can do for now. if its not enough just let me know ill go return it.
thanks.

a few other ppl have also reported it in this thread i was wondering if there are others that can see if the have the same issue. if theres a few ppl it would prob be unlikely a hardware issue unless they are using a different part, resistor, capacitor led or something in their latest 2013 batch. the mfd on my sx is feb 2013.

Hey Singhka,
Checked out the videos.Totally understand the issues you have. Its so strange...!
It will be interesting to see what happens when you connect your DDJ-SX up to a stores demo computer. It will also be interesting to see what your computer does if its connected to another DDJ-SX. This information will really help us out.
Let me know how you get on once you have been to the store.
I will let you know once an update becomes available.
Thanks.

btw just and update. i went to my retailer and did the same tests on their laptop even using my usb and it worked fine. so its a sofware issue. ps they were using a macbook where as all the computers i used are win7 based. so u guys will have to update ur software in seratodj and how it comunicated differently compared to the older 1.1 1 versions and earlier which work properly. i hope now finaly this is enough to convince u to look at things at ur end. cheers.

I stopped reading the halfway through (the thread), but I have to agree that it's definitely NOT a faulty controller issue.
I just updated both Serato DJ and the firmware for my DDJ-SX this week and have noticed the same issue...nothing else in my setup has changed (i.e. my PC is not even connected to the internet so there are no automatic updates etc.)
Like someone else stated, I can press the button a couple of times to correct it, but I shouldn't have to.

yeah i tried all this at my retailer. i even tried theirs and my usb. so basicaly when i plugged in my laptop into their controller guess what it the lights screwed up again. iv tried about 5 diff pcs now sp its proably a problem they created with the win version. the store had a macbook and that worked fine. and dont blame our platforms and os. like i said this only happens in the latest version 1.1.2. irrelevant of what windows based pc i tried and what firmware version i used on the sx. must be a screwep when the coded those communication updates in 1.1.2 between sdj and sx. anyone here have the same issue on a mac?

also please update me regarding the pitch resoultion display option. ur sync modes arent always accurate so when i need to make precice adjustments i am unable to beatmatch them back because i cant see all the increments. this is a biggest issue for me and ppl who need reliable control for tracks to hold. untill sync modes are 100% fail safe proper pitch control is a essential. like i said all i needed from u guys was a yes or no answer but i have not yet got it. im happy for u to say no. so i can get on with my stuff and get new gear if neccesarry.

Hey Singhka,
So your DDJ-SX works fine with other computer setups (The stores Mac).
Well thats good news.
So now we know the problem is with your computer, Windows 7 and Serato DJ 1.1.2.
You say you have tested this with 5 different computers and the issue is the same for all of them. What do these 5 computers have in common?
I agree its a software issue, but it still does not affect the majority of our Windows / PC users therefore its still specific to your setup (and a handful of other users). Its not a "bug" / problem that everyone is experiencing. Can we agree on that?
But so you know, I have already passed this information onto our developers to look into further.
REGARDING PITCH. I have already answered you.
Again I understand what you are referring to and what you mean, but I dont have these answers sorry.
We are at the stage where there really isn't anything else I can do for you.
I have gone through every troubleshooting step possible to try resolve this issue.
The videos and outline of the issue have been passed onto our developers.
I would suggest you press the FX1 button twice on startup for the time being.
Once a new release becomes available I will let you know.
Thanks.

i would like to repeat again that if its my computer thats at fault how come it all the other older versions work fine. and couldnt u have passed the info to the developers much earlier instead of dragging this out only to say it my pc. heres whats common with those pcs. they are installed using an original 7 ultimate x64 refresh disk. thats the lastest iso they have. amd obviosuly each driver comes from the manfactures website. bios drivers and all windows updated r installed. there innt a single other thing installed. iv reformated 2 of them so its fresh.
who knows what u guys will break in a future update but blame it on our comp configs when they used rowork fine previously. and ur country should be proud as it passed laws to allow equality of marrige yet u guys cant even give me an answer yes or no to implement a charaters font change. its one number extra.....
development is slow, but i think my biggest issue is the approach of the company in terms of design and also support. so i dont see a bright future for me staying with serato. maybe u guys should ask izotope to design u sdj code and interface too lol.
anyway close this 'suppord thread' called a forum on the rest of the internet. how bout a more direct ticketing system? u can cancel the info to developers dont waste their time a lightbulb caused by minority of pcs.
anyway thanks for all ur help :). ill see if i can retun my sx. if anyone wants to buy one contact me its in pretty much new condition no wear marks cos i havent really used it has 3 yr warrenty everything incl box is all here. im in bris aus.

Hey Singhka,
Its strange. But due to it not happening with every single Windows PC out there, its not a bug ALL WINDOWS PC users are experiencing. Its a bug that relates to your specific computer setup. (plus a handful of other users).
Before I can pass any information onto developers, I need to understand the issue correctly. I also need to be able to reproduce the issue. I havent been able to do that with several WINDOWS PCs we have here.
-- Are you running an AMD processor? If so we dont support AMD processors..
--> serato.com
I am here to help resolve issues. I dont have information on release dates or information on features that may or may not be added. Releases come out via our news letter and website announcements.
I have already told you the right way to request a feature.
Im not repeating it for a forth time.
Your entitled to your own opinion. Its unfortunate you feel this way.
I have done my best to help you out.
This is a "post" in a "thread" on a "forum" .
We call it a "support thread" because you are starting a thread for support.
You have the option to start a thread so other users can also help you out.
You have the option to email us "support@serato.com"
You also have the option to call us. Even leave a message and we will call you back.
But no problem, thread is now closed.

the amd thing is a load of crap. iv run a few serato products on an amd fx pc and amd phenom 2 pc a intel sandy bridge pc and 2 intel ivy bridge pcs. same results on all devices with all ur sofware. even itch with the s1 worked fine on all of those comps. amd only chipset had usb latency and comunication issues but that was the old amd 64 chipsets on the mainboards.
not blaming u man u do what ur trained and can do within ur limits. uv done enough. my issue is serato its outlook and approach plus its future plans priorities and decisions within its products. not to mention very slow pace of development scince the stratch live days.

Hey Singhka,
We monitor these threads, we might not reply to them straight away, but if other users out there are supporting your idea (in the thread) we will take notice.
Thats cool. I know we are always working hard on improving our software. Im confident as updates come out things will only improve.
I will close this thread for now. When a release becomes available I will be in touch.
Thanks.

well now all the new version is done is that before the ch2 light wasn't on but ch1 worked. now its the other war around. ch1 is on and ch2 is off. u guys will have to look at the code that changed from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2.
and the sync still isnt always accurate and again i have to beg u how am u supposed to correct the pitch precisely if the sync gets it wrong while im mixing. if i have to prepare each track i might as well prepare and automate and ableton set, kick back and throw my hands in the air during each breakdown & drop.
id be even happy to pay for a version just to have the decimal points back and so other ppl dont get annoyed. would u atleast consider that, that way it doesn't affect others who like their slightly bigger fonts. im only getting desperate because i had this on ebay and other places and am struggling to sell it even for 1g considering its in new condition and normally sells for 1289 on avge. and mines in new condition with extended 3 yr warranty incl box n eveything.
