I am using a CDJ 850 + SSL 2.4.2 + N.I. X1 over USB 3.0. Due to the nature of my situation, I cannot give 100% accurate detail on what I think the issue is, as I believe it's several issues.

I've had this happen on 2 separate laptops (both PC/Windows 7 64). The first laptop had usb 2.0 ports though. I've had the issue since 2.4.0 I believe, I think 2.3.3 worked fine (on the first laptop)...I would only have problems when I had my X1 plugged in with the CDJ 850. I believe I have solved one of the incidents that caused the crashes on the first laptop, which is changing the CDJ 850s Midi to channel 2, and changing the N.I. X1 to channel 3. I haven't tested the setup on USB 2.0 as yet, since my new laptop only has USB 3.0.

Also, this problem seems to be PC only related from what I can tell, as I've had several friends use HID mode on their macbooks on the same night I am having crashes.

(Side note for everyone, when Rane 62 is midi enabled, it uses channel 1 and can very much interfere with any assigned midi controls for devices of similar value, which is how I first came up with the idea of changing midi channels.)

Which leads me to my next issue, if this is in fact a USB 3.0 issue, Serato is probably not the source of the issue, and will have to be resolved by Pioneer.

Also, I have updated the USB 3.0 drivers with the drivers directly from intel as opposed to the native drivers supplied by Windows. So far most things behave much better with these drivers and the crashing occurs less often.

My CDJ 850 is updated with the latest firmware from Pioneer (not saying much though since they haven't updated since 08-07-2011).

I have tried everything I can think of and I am now at a loss. I purchased (though no fault of Serato's) the 850 specifically for HID mode.

I haven't tested the CDJ 2000s with my present changes as yet, but on the first machine CDJ 2000s worked fine, but crashed on the new one. Lastly I have 4 usb 3.0 slots so, using USB 2.0 is not possible.

If you need any more information regarding my situation please feel free to ask, I would like to get this situation resolved swiftly.

Hi Skinny G.

Thanks for your well worded information. This really helps.
I'm keen to know how it goes on the USB2 computer. A few people have had some issue with the USB3 ports and usually we will suggest to use the other ports if you have them available, not so, in your case.
The other option is to use a powered hub, sometimes that helps the USB transfer.

Let me know how you go there,

Matt P
Skinny G. 5:31 AM - 25 September, 2012
I actually do have a USB powered hub. I am going to test it for a few hours and let you know the results. I did try the hub before, and the system still crashed, but I did not use the power adapter that was supplied. I will get back to you on this one thanks.
Skinny G. 5:33 AM - 25 September, 2012
On a side note, I've posted this same problem on the Pioneer forums (right after posting this one) and have yet to receive word from them.
Skinny G. 6:27 PM - 25 September, 2012
Okay, I've tested the hub and gotten the same results.

A few things i've forgotten to mention. I use 1 CDJ 850 and use instant doubles. When the software is about to crash, I actually have some form of warning. It most usually happens when loading a sock onto the deck the CDJ is controlling. When the song is loaded, the right deck will freeze in place.

I've noticed a few variants to this. Sometimes the deck scrolling bars will freeze in place but everything else functions like normal. I can alter BPM, load a new track, the needle locator functions properly and everything, etc... Sometimes the entire deck freezes. When this happens I know the system is about to go down. Most times, music will still respond, but if I load anything to the deck the system will crash immediately and go into "stop responding" mode. However, the opposite deck still functions and normally I have time to switch stuff around to keep things going and reboot Serato. Rarely, but it has happened, the system crashes immediately.

Most recently, the decks have been freezing up, but then returning to normal if left alone after a short period of time. If sound returns to the deck it's normal, if no sound it's going to crash. Another strange thing it's done is the track plays, but the bars do not load and there is no sound, but the deck still functions, this is another sign of crashing.

In other news, no Rane devices have given me any issues so far with USB 3.0 (that I know of, or anything bad enough to write about).

I hope Serato and Pioneer can figure this out, maybe the CDJ 2000 Nexus will not have this issue.

Skinny G.

This may have something to do with the fact that both the Rane Sixty-Two and the CDJ850's are using HID mode. It could have some conflict there. I'm going to have a go setting this up and recreating the problem.

Keep me posted and talk to the Rane guys too, its good to know that they are working well with USB3
Thanks

Matt P
Skinny G. 5:44 PM - 26 September, 2012
Hmm...I will notify Rane of the situation then. I will provide you further detail to my setup. I also updated my profile to reflect my system and software usage. I would like to note btw, that this happens regardless of whether or not I use the NI X1 aforementioned, so that is not part of the equation at all anymore, and I do not use any other software while Serato is running.

Laptop
Asus G75VW-TS71
12GB RAM

I thought this may be helpful because I've only had Asus laptops past few years. Asus tends to use similar parts throughout their machines, so the possibility exists that it could also be the laptop's motherboard that is causing this issue.

Thanks for your time in helping me, it is greatly appreciated it. Still waiting to hear from Pioneer, but I will go and post on Rane's forums.

Skinny.

We can see it here, I've been following the conversation. It's good to know our Rane hardware is working perfectly on your USB3 ports. That is good to know, thank you. This issue isn't related to your Rane hardware.
Skinny G. 6:15 PM - 26 September, 2012
Oh that's funny Chad, I just finished posting to the Rane forums. Well this would certainly make things easier. Chad I am going to double check on that theory by using the SL3 instead of the 62 in HID mode. If memory serves correctly I do believe I've had the CDJ 2000s crash on me w/o HID mode of a Rane mixer.

But better safe than sorry.
Rane, Support
Chad S. 6:21 PM - 26 September, 2012
That is a great idea. I guess I should say, never rule anything out. Keep testing and let us know the results. I'll go over to the Rane forum and redirect that thread here :)
Skinny G. 6:35 PM - 26 September, 2012
Thanks Chad. PS. this is the first time I'm realizing that Serato forums update in "real time" so kudos to their forums designer!
Skinny G. 11:26 PM - 26 September, 2012
Wow...okay, so it took a while. But yeah, same problem even with the SL3. So we can rule out HID being the culprit. If Matt cannot reproduce the problem, it could also be defective hardware at some end of the spectrum.
Blak Adiktion Musik 12:57 AM - 27 September, 2012
hey,

I have the same problem with 850's. However the reason it is crashing is when you load songs from using the scroll button on the players and also from the computer keyboard. If u load only from using the scroll knobs it wont crash, or if you load only using the keyboards. If you however load a song using both options thats when it crashes.

this is a definate problem with serato. Please help...i have a big gig on sunday coming up.
Skinny G. 1:11 AM - 27 September, 2012
I'm not so sure about that one. Because I was just testing with the SL3 and I was only using the keyboard. I will triple check this, but just not tonight.

Also, are you using mac/pc?
Blak Adiktion Musik 1:18 AM - 27 September, 2012
I'm using PC and SL2 box. serato 2.4.2. I am going to install a older version of the software and try it. but i can definately tell you that it crashes when u use both option s to load a song.

If you could start your own thread, it will be easier to help you with your problem separately, As you will most likely have a different setup.

Skinny G.

Hey man thanks for the suggestion of the name ;P,

I'm trying to get this thing to crash, are you running 2.4.3 now?

I'm having no luck, going back and forth between loading on the cdj and the keyboard. How long does it take for you?

Matt P
Blak Adiktion Musik 3:25 AM - 27 September, 2012
Matt,

I am running 2.4.2. it normally crashes immediately,
Skinny G. 3:25 AM - 27 September, 2012
It varies. That's the biggest issue of reproducing the issue. In fact, when I was testing the SL3, I left everything running over night. I had played with everything setup for about an hr, then left it running. It wasn't until the following day that I came back and started playing with it again that it froze.

But I've been testing Blak's theory for the past hr or so and I've only been using the knobs from the 62. No crash, no hiccups, nothing! My only problem with this theory is I've had it crash on the first song loaded before. I didn't even get to play the song. But this was a while back. Also, I changed something before running the experiment (I should not have done it, but I wasn't thinking.) I lowered my USB Buffer Size to the lowest setting. I actually did this in hopes of causing a USB hiccup, but not even a flicker of stress.

I'm also further trying to stress the system by enabling record. Still nothing. The most consistent good behavior I've gotten from this thing so far (ever) is about 6 hours. But that's happened only once or MAYBE twice at most.

So I have an idea. I've now used keyboard keys + mouse for instant doubles + Rane 62 knobs + CDJ 850 knobs. I am going to leave the system running with "Auto" enabled for a few hours while I go run some late night errands.

Here's a thought though. Is it possible that lowering the USB buffer took stress off of the devices and put more stress on the laptop, thus freeing up more resources on the device and alleviating the problem? So it's more like a 1:1 system rather than having to store and save stuff?

And I almost forgot, I did upgrade to 2.4.3 and updated Video to 1.1.
Skinny G. 3:27 AM - 27 September, 2012
Blak, since yours acts up from the jump. Could you try changing your USB settings and lowering your buffer to the bare minimum and see if that changes anything?
Blak Adiktion Musik 3:32 AM - 27 September, 2012
Skinny, i will do that tom, as i am at soccer now. will let you know. i think i may upgrade to the 2.4.3 and test, i do hope this version have the bugs corrected.

Also my buffer is always set at the lowest.
Skinny G. 7:31 AM - 27 September, 2012
Ok. This thing is still going. I'm going to let it run through 'till morning. But I won't be able to give an accurate representation until Friday. I think changing the buffer may have fixed the issue. But I won't be able to tell you for sure before I play with it all night Friday.
Skinny G. 4:44 PM - 27 September, 2012
Okay. Matt. Leaving it on "Auto" worked. Changing the USB buffer did not work =(. So if you want to re-create it, Leave the machine running with "Auto" enabled and it should crash. Next I'm going to leave it running with auto enabled, but not use anything else but the 62 to load songs.

Then on Friday I'll be able to fully test it.

For some reason first 2 wouldn't load. so I just cut them down. But basically this is what happens. This one today was kinda new though. System was responsive, and I could load songs, but nothing was working on either side. It even allowed me to close the program properly (which is actually a first).
Blak Adiktion Musik 4:23 PM - 2 October, 2012
upgraded to 2.4.3 and the problem is worse. I will start a new discussion on this.
Blak Adiktion Musik 4:30 PM - 2 October, 2012
Skinny,

Spoke to Rane on the phone and they confirm there is bug when you are using the HID (midi) function on the cdj850 that you either have to load songs from the keyboard only of the cd players only. you cany load from both.

I am going to call Serato in New Zealand today and bug the hell out of them to fix this. this is ridiculous. They know of it over 5 months now.
Skinny G. 6:57 PM - 2 October, 2012
I used only the keyboard the other night and it crashed. I started on keyboard by accident and made sure not to touch anything else. not even the mouse. Still crashed. I'm waiting to get a response from Matt.

But that bug may be the same thing. I got really good behaviour the other night just using the Mixer instead of the KB or CDJ. I may just stick with that.

Hi Skinny G.,

I just tried your bug with the "auto" button on and had a look at your pictures. I'm unable to recreat this problem on my computer still. I'm using the Sixty-two and the cdj850 in HID and switching between keyboard shortcuts and loading tracks on the CDJ. I'd appreciate any more information to help me demonstrate this to the developers.

At this point i'm a little stumped on how to do this. I'd really like to see this bug fixed too.

I attempted to record this past Fri. Not much luck, 'cuz my Livestream kept on crashing. So I'm attempting it now, it's going to be a long pause in between work and not perfect 'cuz I'm doing this just hoping for it to crash!

DON'T JUDGE MEH! =)

new.livestream.com
Skinny G. 7:40 AM - 8 October, 2012
And of course it's not crashing now. If this does not work tonight I am going to have to try again on Fri.
Skinny G. 4:25 PM - 8 October, 2012
Streaming is NSFW!

Ok. Matt, it FINALLY crashed. This time was kinda special though. It crashed on the instant double deck (NEVER had that happen before). It also locked up everything on my system which you're going to see. Nothing responded until I shut Serato down.

The unfortunate news is that I had turned sound off last night so you can't hear that the music is still playing even though everything is frozen. I was scratching and couldn't get my sound back on because everything was locked up. Serato did not completely crash until the end of the track when it was trying to auto-load the next track.

Skip to 21:34 (the furthest you can skip to) of new.livestream.com and let it ride, it crashes shortly after at about 21:38 I think.

Wow...didn't realize how good that mic is. It picked up EVERYTHING. Anyway, while I have your attention. Why do I have to "load" my midi .xml file every single time I start Serato in order to use the 62 midi functions? (You'll see me load up at about 11:40 something in the video, unfortunately you cannot skip to it). In any event, I have the "samples" button set to my sp6 view window, but if I don't load the xml file it won't work.

And last but not least, I won't even begin to tell you how butt hurt I was when I saw the DDJ-SX. I had to convince myself why my 62 was better. I often play with multiple DJs though, so I'm not too mad. BUT...and I don't meant to offend when I say this...can we please get the izotope FXs as well in SSL? Can the 62 FX be updated by firmware as well?

One more thing as a requested feature. I would love to be able to run audio directly to my PC so I don't have to use the Mic for when I'm streaming (or another soundcard). I was hoping to be able to use the 2nd USB as "WSM" instead of Asio, but that does not seem to be possible right now. Is there something that can be done about that or is SSL going to always have priority? I feel like there should be a switch or something we could use (in the Software options).

Matt P 10:11 PM - 9 October, 2012
Hi Skinny G.

I checked out the video. I can see that it froze up. Its hard to pinpoint what caused it to happen and its quite hard to reproduce. It looks like you left it running for quite a long time.. Is that video 21 hours long!?

In response to the midi xml file. I think you'll only need to load that if you have made custom midi assignments, otherwise the Sixty-two will default to factory settings. which is just the first layer of the sixty-two.

The Sixty- Two is still a great mixer, and in a lot of ways is still superior to the DDJSX. You won't be able to use digital Vinyl simulation with the SX. I can't say for sure when, but the Izotope effects will most likely be implemented in our software at some point. Hang tight.

I like your suggestion and can make a note of it for our product owners.

Thanks

Matt P
Skinny G. 12:08 AM - 10 October, 2012
Yes. But I should note a few changes. Windows Aero was turned off to accommodate Liveshare. I may try doing this again on Friday because it crashed on Friday well within 3hrs of play time. The video does run for 21hrs, but I was not playing 21 hrs and auto was not running for 21 hrs. A true test can be done on Friday when I'm playing again.

Also, I did my best to use only one controller to do all my song selections, and must say that between that and no Aero it behaved well. The following day before I got a chance to setup video, it crashed within a few mins of starting up though. I will keep recording whenever I use it to see what happens. If I continue to turn Aero off and it behaves itself, I will start to blame windows.

I'm trying my best to run controlled environments when testing so as to be able to pinpoint what's at fault here.

Also thanks for all the help so far Matt, much appreciated. I haven't even heard anything from Pioneer's forums yet. You too Chad if you are still here.

Snowboarding in a blizzard ;)
Skinny G. 8:00 AM - 14 October, 2012
Okay. So I played with no errors for 6hrs on Friday, and 1hr today...and nothing. I did not use anything but my controller for selecting songs. I used to drag songs using the mouse from one of the decks to put into the "prepare" window. Did not even do that, and it all behaved well. Though every time the system glitched it made me catch my breath.

So it may indeed be the use of multiple sources to select songs (including the mouse interaction with the decks). I did not turn off Aero, so I think that can be ignored. Unfortunately, my new issue is that Serato has been crashing upon exit (so it doesn't close properly). I'm assuming corrupted library.

In any event, I'll continue to test this way for the rest of this week, and then by then hopefully I can have a definite answer for you as to the problem causing the HID crashes with the 850.

Skinny G.,

That would be awesome, Thanks for posting all this information.
Keen to hear how it goes.

Matt P
Skinny G. 5:00 AM - 20 October, 2012
And I think this is official. I believe I have found the culprit. It's something to do with loading decks with the keyboard. My system behaves perfectly fine using the Rane 62 and My Traktor X1 solo. I've been using nothing but controllers and midi all week.

Two things happened to me tonight.

I clicked the CD drive by accident and Serato crashed. I re-opened, then accidentally used my keyboard to load a song. So I stuck with the keyboard. The system crashed shortly after. So HID + Keyboard usage = Bad! Regardless of using any Midi/HID to load tracks.

PS, please remind me how to properly fix a corrupt library. Serato crashes upon exit all the time now.
Blak Adiktion Musik 3:04 AM - 22 October, 2012
Skinny,

I knew it was the keyboard. However mine has stopped crashing. I upgraded to 2.4.3 and changed how I used the midi mapping and it just stop crashing. I since have been able to load from both keyboard and CD players while using it in hid.
Skinny G. 6:28 AM - 22 October, 2012
what did you change?
Blak Adiktion Musik 12:32 PM - 22 October, 2012
I previously used the buttons at the top of the player (browse, tag, info, menu) to both set and recall cue points. After I upgraded I changed it to using the first button (browse) for setting cue and the other 3 to recall, so I can only recall 3 cue points. Also I installed record box.

I have since played sets for more than 5 hours without any problem.

Hi Skinny G.,

I just gave this a good hour of fast loading only using the keyboard. Still no luck. I'm only unsing one cdj850 though. I'll try again tomorrow with two. I'm beginning to think that it only will happen with two cdj's hooked up. As i'll have to use the hub.

Matt P
Skinny G. 6:04 AM - 24 October, 2012
Shouldn't. Because I'm only using 1 remember? BUT, I did run into issues replicating this problem when just randomly loading tracks over and over to the same deck. If I did not play like I normally do, (which is why testing took so freaking long) by using instant doubles etc...it just would not crash.
Gavin (Pioneer) 8:12 PM - 24 October, 2012
Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't actually dropped a message but we've been following the updates posted here. So far, the engineers have been unable to replicate a similar scenario. Much like Serato and Rane we're eager to keep the products performing the best they can - and we'll continue to work with each other to achieve that.

Thanks for your support and great feedback.
Skinny G. 4:03 AM - 25 October, 2012
Okay sweet. All under same roof. It is almost Friday again. I should have another DJ with me this Friday, so I will be able to do dumb stuff while spinning. So I will stream what I'm doing, while I'm doing it (on the laptop and what I'm using to load.)

If no one else can reproduce this besides me, then maybe it has something to do with the laptop brands. First off, you are all using PCs and not Macs when trying to test this correct? Then 2nd, we're all using USB 3.0? Because if you are unable to reproduce with USB 2.0, then USB 3.0 may in fact be the biggest factor and culprit. (PC side).

And like I originally mentioned, the laptop only has USB 3.0 outputs.
Skinny G. 4:21 AM - 4 November, 2012
So i'm playing with my setup right now. I've been using it for 2 weeks no mid-crash. So yeah, keyboard and mouse are the issue from what I can tell. So maybe it's some form of driver issues based on manufacturers.
Serato, Support
Matt P 8:43 PM - 4 November, 2012
Hi Skinny G.,

I was wondering, have you tried the keyboard load technique with a USB 2.0 hub?

Might be worth a try, because i've been testing on a USB 2.0 machine

Matt P
Skinny G. 6:46 PM - 5 November, 2012
Actually, yes, I've tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 hubs. Also, remember that the keyboard and mouse in the laptop uses PS/2 if I remember correctly.

So I just noticed something, because I was double checking my PS/2 info. KB and Mouse are registered as HID devices. Never mind that...that's my external KB and mouse, which I will test with next for crashing. But mouse is PS/2 connection, does not state for keyboard.

I failed to note btw, that the only thing I've been using to load songs is my X1 for the past 3 weeks.
NORMAN ALDER 6:35 PM - 28 January, 2013
I hope you guys have fixed the problem with the cdj850 and scratch live. I must tell you scratch live and pioneer cdj850 dont work very well in the internal mode if you are using PC, meaning using usb mode. I have been throught the same problem scratch live not responding and it freezes. The promlem was resolved when i up graded to THE MAC 10.7.5
NO MORE GLITCHES.
Skinny G. 9:39 PM - 28 January, 2013
I think the issue relies in not knowing where the issue begins.

But it's still there. Were you using isb 2.0 or 3.0?
NORMAN ALDER 10:18 PM - 28 January, 2013
I was used a usb belkin 2.0 in my Sony PC. I dont know if the usb on the pc were 3.0.

I was told by serato techs to try a usb hub belkin 2.0 and it still crashed. When I purchased a Mac Pro hooked it up in usb with the same 2.0 hub works fine until now.
NORMAN ALDER 10:33 PM - 28 January, 2013
Guys i dont think this problem is with Serato Trust me its the problem with the PC. I had the same problem and the only way i could load song and be safe for the entire night is either load the song from the ttm57 or from either cdj left and right. I dont know if its a driver problem with the pc not loading it properly, but i would also like to figure this out for future problem, but my solution was to purchase a Mac Pro and do my thing. The Mac has all the drivers loaded for the pioneer and the ttm57, just connect and play.
Skinny G. 11:02 PM - 28 January, 2013
Do you remember the model number of your laptop by chance? Also, like I said. Knowing where to look for the issue is important.

I guess I'll continue the quest. I am going to use one of my older laptops to test the USB 2.0 vs. 3.0 theory and get back to everyone on that.
NORMAN ALDER 1:50 PM - 29 January, 2013
The Old laptop I would imagine? No I don't but it's not a problem to retrieve. I will get back with you on that. Let me ask you, if you play with time code u don't have any problem rite? But only when you play in the internal mode which is USB, you have a problem. Are you using a Mac Pro?
Daniel Ventura 2:51 PM - 29 January, 2013
It seems to me that this is an issue with the Firmware, i have Players with fw 1.6 at home and there was never a Crash (also no stuttering of the Display) in a Location i Play there are with newest fw 1.8 (or so) and i have stuttering (if directly connected to my ThinkPad, no stuttering wenn using a hub) and always crashes.
it seems also to be an issue that the Player uses usb 1.1
NORMAN ALDER 3:09 PM - 29 January, 2013
What do you mean by sttering? I have up dated to the fw 1.8 and i dont have any promblems in USB mode. I have two pioneer cdjs 850 with latest firmware 1.8 they work fine with scratch live software, a Rane ttm 57 and Mcpro no problem. Yes i had the problem with my Sony Vio crashes in USB mode but time code nor problem. Can you borrow a Mac and try it out. Thats what i did, my friend had a 13" Mac and he use it on my system in the Usb mode with an external hub and his works fine, and it baffeled me the specs were the same, but as you say the usb ports might make a difference so try a Mac and see?

If your Mac is a brand new mac, it is using USB 3.0. I believe most USBs are manufactured by Intel. So should not be a hardware difference. Operative word i "SHOULD."

In any case @ Norman, I have 0 problems in timecode, but the reason for me getting the 850 is for internal, not for use with timecode.

@Daniel I am not sure if what I am about to describe is the same thing as you're experiencing. But there are times when I'm scratching or if I stop the track using the "touch" feature on the spindle and the track does not resume immediately (even if the start/stop knob is set to 0/8 o clock).

The display issue I know they've been experiencing is that some information (usually the album IIRC) remains on the display screen even after switching tracks. But to be honest, I receive these problems/crashes on the CDJ 2000 as well, so I am not entirely sure this is a CDJ 850 problem only. Nor would I blame only firmware.

At the end of the day, it seems as if to alleviate these problems, the only 2 immediate solutions to this crash problem is to use timecode/buy a Mac. If you do not want to do either, then I suggest you ensure that you only use one method of loading your tracks on deck, and do not EVER use the mouse to interact with the tracks loaded on the decks.

Oh, and no, I am not using a Mac, I already knew there were no Mac related issues to this, because I've had multiple DJs using my device on the same nights mine crash!
NORMAN ALDER 7:03 PM - 29 January, 2013
I agree with you for thats the same reason why i got the 850's and trust me nothing is wrong with them, i thought may be it was the 850s, but no, and yes my Mac is fairly new it's a lion 2011 10.7.5 . look let me tell you what to try, ok instead of using shift arrow left or right to load the songs respectively, use the knob on the cdjs for the time being and tell me if you get any crash. I had to use the knobs on mine before i go a Mac for serato couldn't couldnt figure it out. I used the knows resprctivels to load the songs no problem and i played for ove 4 hours. Normally what would happen when i used the old P.C I would use shift arrow on the pc doing fine for 20 minutes then all of a sudden i select another song and it crashes. So Believe the P.C USB isnt powerful to handle the cdjs for they require power as well. Now as to the display issue, here is what happens if you are juggling really quick thorught songs, yes your song is sent to the respective decks by a mere touch, but not enough to bring it to the display cdjs window display. So i dont mean you have to bang the keys, but with a little more touch.
NORMAN ALDER 7:25 PM - 29 January, 2013
Skinny,
Can you do me a favor, explain to me from scratch what is happening to you in the internal mode. From the time you set the cdjs to pc and select decks respectively.
Skinny G. 10:01 PM - 29 January, 2013
All the information is located at the beginning of the discussion.

Also, yes...I don't use the KB/Mouse at all anymore. Outside of that, everything else behaves pretty normal.

In addition I can only use 1 USB device at a time to load music. IE, my Rane 62/CDJ 850/etc... If I use the Rane to load a song and then the 850 later on, I will eventually crash!
NORMAN ALDER 1:10 PM - 30 January, 2013
Ok. this has happened to me also with my old pc. So i gather you are good to go for now. i don't think the pc can handle internal mode effectively i dont know why either usb is too much or not enough. So Bredrin time to get the Mac Serato Endorses it and it's the real real thing. By the way how do you like the Rane 62 performance?
Skinny G. 2:45 PM - 30 January, 2013
I like it. I got it from a friend who preferred the TTM. I've used both and I prefer the 62 lol. But he's been using the 57 for a while, so I guess he was just used to it.

And yeah, you just gave me another idea on something I need to try. But I dunno if I want to kill myself to do it lol.
NORMAN ALDER 3:38 PM - 30 January, 2013
What Idea i gave you?
Skinny G. 3:52 AM - 31 January, 2013
Well, I want to test if it's an Opereating System/Driver theory or if it is a physical thing. To do that, I need to sit down and install Mac OS on one of my laptops. That'll at least give Serato/Pioneer a starting place. The process is just a bit of a pain right now for me.
NORMAN ALDER 1:49 PM - 31 January, 2013
Thats a try, not bad, let me know the results if you attempt it.
Skinny G. 8:35 AM - 1 February, 2013
I'll start working on it over the weekend.

Hmm....so uhm....I now own 2 CDJ 850s. Serato 2.4.5 crashed on me 3 times with HID. I think we have a problem houston. I am going to try to recreate the problem using USB 2.0 slots, this machine at least has one of those.

1. Scratch Live 2.5 has just been released.
-- Download Here --> serato.com
-- I recommend you download and install this version.

2. Is your USB port powered?

3. When you say it "crashed in HID mode" can you explain further please?
-- What were you doing at the time? Scratching / scrolling to select tune?

Thanks :)
Skinny G. 1:44 AM - 25 July, 2013
1. Apologies. I meant Serato 2.5 actually.

2. It is a powered USB port and the CDJs were both plugged into a powered USB hub.

3. I am going to go with all of the above, including doing absolutely nothing special. One of the times it just crashed while I was looking for a song to load.

Hey Skinny G,

Thanks for that information,

I noticed its a powered USB3.0 device.
USB3.0 ports can cause issues, same with USB hubs.

Is there any chance you can test a 2.0USB powered hub?

Thanks.

Okay, now here you go. USB 2.0 powered hub into a USB 2.0 powered port and the powered hub has it's own power supply.

2 CDJ 850s HID mode with Rane 62 mixer.

Took me about 5 minutes to recreate this scenario. All I did was use each device to load a song, several times, then finally used the laptop's keyboard to load the song, and it did this.

I should point out it did not crash completely, I could still actually play and load songs, but the crates menu would not scroll, though I could change crates, I had to use the search to find songs. Everything else was functioning. Things got worse when I changed from full screen to paste the crash.

Labeled incorrectly, crash 2 actually took place first.

Hey Skinny G.

Sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you,
things are very busy here at the moment, I appreciate your patience :)

Thanks for the information,

Its such a strange issue... I have tried to recreate it here but I am having no luck?
My thoughts are it may be the USB cables / connections.
-- Can you try using some new USB cables?

Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks.
Skinny G. 11:20 PM - 15 August, 2013
Not the cables. They're all mostly new and have been swapped out a few times anyway. Only cables that I haven't swapped are the ones that came with the 62.

Hi,

I run the CDJ 850 for a year with Windows. i tried everything without success. I used 3 different pc and 3 different OS. It crash after 5 or 30 min each time. I finish by buying a mac. Now it work perfectly. I think the CDJ 850 are not compatible windows, just Mac...
