When I start with mixing, the most of the track have cracking sound especially in the parts with bass. The strange thing is when I turn on an effect on the right channel the cracking is over, even when I turn on the effect for 0.10% (the first step I can choose after 0.00%). After a while the cracking is completely gone or maybe I get used to it.

The second strange thing about it is: when I record the set, there is no cracking at all in the entire set. So the cracking is only trough the master out.
On other pc's I've no problem at all, but I want to use the DDJ-S1 on this one. (only 2 months old)

What can be the reason for this problem and how can I fix?
Has it maybe something to do with the intel chipset like in my outher helprequest?

Hi M-S1,

When you go into ITCH, and go to the SETUP menu, under the HARDWARE tab, what have you got your USB buffer settings set to? Try moving the slider a little to the right to either 5, 10 or 20?

Can you give me a full run down of your computer specs?

Cheers

Are you able to record the crackling happening? I would be interested in hearing it so I could hopefully diagnose what the problem is.

You say that other PC's have no problem, so it only happens on your one?

I cant see the other help request that you started but i wouldn't assume it would have anything to do with the intel chipset. The intel series only have problems with USB 1.1 devices such as the Rane SL 1 box and TTM-57 mixer. But you are running ITCH so this is irrelevant.

Hopefully you can send me a recording of this crackling so I can help fix this problem! Let me know how you get on,
Cheers

Thank you for your reaction,

I'll try to record the cracking sound this week.
As soon as I have it, I'll post it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Scott S,

In the attached file you can hear a clear cracking sound through the entire track.

I hope that you can do something with it!

Thanks in advance!!

Yes i can hear the crackling very clearly, its also very heavily distorted! That is very weird..

What level are you playing the song at? Its not redlining or anything is it?

have you tried using the DDJ-S1 on another computer? This would distinguish if it was a hardware or software problem.

Cheers

Thank you for listening!

The distortion can be caused by connecting a cable directly from master out 2 to the mic input of my pc and I didn't change the volume setting, so it can be recorded to loud.
When I use my speakers there is NO distortion, than is the only problem the cracking sound.

I will try the DDJ-S1 on a laptop this week, and will keep you updated!

Yes the mic input is not a good recording source, i would not run a cable from the high quality output of the DDJ-S1 into the low quality mic input of the PC. That distortion is now explainable.

However it doesn't explain the crackling sound, so please let me know how you get on when using another computer with the DDJ-S1.

Specs:
Itch v 2.2
Model: HP Envy 17
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 460 @ 2.53GHz
RAM: 8GB
System type: 64-bit OS

Have tried all buffer settings. 512 seems to work best but all have the cracking, popping, or clipping noise though it does appear to get worse when decreasing the setting. 1024/20 is no better than 512 sound quality wise, and there is also a delay between the controller and playback both audio and visual. Fx are down/off but the controller for that is still connected via usb. I have uninstalled, re-installed and tried all the trouble shooting steps I can find. Using the master RCA output. Restarting the computer sometimes clears the issue but after a few minutes it comes back. The delay is unpredictable but the crackling is consistent. Please assist.

Ironically I think I figured it out here, I tried all the USB ports and the first of 4 USB outs seems to be working just fine now. The others still have the same problem.

Thank you for the quick response.

Yes there are some USB ports on computers that work better than others, this is because USB ports run off the internal circuitry of the computer, so if your laptop has any other internal devices (such as the internal keyboard or trackpad) that are running on the same circuit as the USB port, then that specific USB port will be getting less power.

So if you get a USB related dropout or connection problems, its a good idea to try the other USB ports and also other USB cables.

Hi Scott,

Sorry for my late response, but I have made a test on my laptop and there is no cracking at all.
So I think there is nothing wrong with the DDJ-S1 itself.

Thanks in advance
