when you throw the platters back it doesn't backspin, it just does an unpredictable scratch, what do I need to do to perform a backspin when mixing?

Hi there JAM ONE,
What do you mean by "unpredictable scratch"?
You have to make sure "VINYL" mode is selected before you can backspin. Otherwise it just slows down the track.
Hope this clears it up :)

Thanks for the quick response
Yes, I have it in vinyl mode, when I say backspin I mean like doing a 'REWIND' listen attached file
On the Ergo you spin the platter back during play to rewind and anything random can happen from a short scratch to a half sounding rewind to nearly nothing..
I tried a friends Numark Pro controller today (a third of the price) and the platters handle like a turntable and can rewind-backspin properly
If I can't resolve this today, I'll return the Ergo tomorrow & get a Numark
Or am I missing something obvious on the Ergo?

update:
Have loaded the Virtual DJ program that came in the box with Ergo and REWIND/Backspin works fine.
Would rather play off Serato though
Is this a bug in Serato/Ergo interface?
Also: pausing track on Ergo with Serato has permanent brake effect on it
As instructed in manual did not run driver installer software as I am on Mac OSX
Pls help clarify

Thanks JAM ONE,
No this isn't a Serato/ERGO bug, as we have many users with ERGOs who are not experiencing any problems. I have a Pioneer ERGO in front of me here and it works fine in DJ Intro and a Macbook Pro.
It might be the ERGO that has something wrong with the platter. As they are made to Rewind/Backspin just fine.
Return it to the shop, and bring your laptop if you can so you can try another one out and see if it making the same issue.
Let me know how you get on :)

I went back to the shop, they didn't have another Ergo so we tried Serato Intro with the Numark Mixtrack Pro. It didn't map properly - the bass/mid/tops kill buttons worked as loop/cue point buttons and when you stop a track it always braked (like the Ergo) The Sync button was always on.
Then we tried another Mixtrack Pro - same problems.
Then I deleted Serato Intro and installed Serato Intro from the disc in the Mixtrack Pro box.
First disc wouldn't read.
Got another disc from another Mixtrack box - it installed, same wrong mapping problem again.
I ended up buying a Traktor S2 controller (reluctantly - I have friends in the business using Serato, one is even a Serato product ambassador)
The Traktor S2 works fine - not as nice jog/platters as Ergo or Mixtrack, but hey, it works! I feel safe enough to stand in front of a crowd using it.
I will look at Serato later down the line again, the program looks good, but I need dependable tools.
Pls look into my feedback seriously.
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your problems you keep having with the ERGO and Mixtrack Pro, we have many users using both the ERGO and Mixtrack without any problems, so they are definitely dependable tools. It just sounds like a bad run of luck you have had recently.
The "breaking" effect your hearing when you pause a track is normal for Serato DJ Intro. All the Intro controllers make this noise when a track is paused. This is because DJ Intro is a beginners software (bedroom DJs), if you have a good idea about DJing and want to be play out in front of crowds, we do not recommend DJ Intro. Serato ITCH is our main controller based program, this is much more advanced and has a lot more features than DJ Intro.
But I'm glad the S2 satisfies your needs and you can now get on with what you love, playing music!
I will close this thread as you seem to have come to a solution.
Take care
Scott
