I keep having to re-write tags for mainly mp4s....it looks like its mainly files that have a vob component and the files that normally create a .xml metadata file. Are all files supposed to have an xml file ...when i do a search on .xml on my computer i am able to delete them but they end up coming back again...I have rescanned my files numerous times...and have lost hours and hours of tagging information. Thanks

If they have metadata files created then they are not encoded in a way which supports tagging properly.

Open them in MpegStreamclip and 'save as' to create a new file with proper headers and tags.

If that method doesn't work then either the audio or video components aren't suitable for the container and you'll need to re-encode them.

hmm thanks a span will try that ...yep its a pain coz i know i have a video/song and when i go to look it up during a gig cant find it ..only to get home and realize its reverted back to the original name it got ripped from DVD e.g. track1vob.mp4 instead of the tag i put in like 3 -4 times. Thanks!

Hi taump,

As phatbob has mentioned if the file does not support metadata then a .ovb and .xml file will be created.

Our recommended format for use with Serato Video is MP4 ( Container ) H.264 ( Video Codec ) and AAC ( Audio Codec ).

Using MPEGStreamclip to 'save as' is a workaround for those .mp4 files which don't retain the Tag Info you have added or changed.

Let me know how you get on and if you have any further questions regarding Serato Video.

taump try installing the new beta. I was having problems with MP4 files re-writing tags and the new beta seems to have fixed the problem.

I have a similar problem, when ever i buy and import a video from iTunes. The Label box shows
oxffffff, not sure what that means, but for those files all loop overview and cue points are lost after each time the track is loaded, even if you reload the track immediately. Any ideas?

Change the file extension to .mp4.

Back them up first.
