Probably better to grab a current model (new or refurb) that is known to work well at this point. From some other threads on here, may be wise to downgrade to Snow leopard as well, which may not be possible on the upcoming models.

Buy now...if anything the new models sound like they are going to be a step back for Video DJs.

DJ Surf if you're only planning on running Serato w/ Mix Emergency then buy now. If you are planning on some serious midi controls and layering video then wait

never buy apple full price. get a refurb or a used one off ebay or craigslist. anything past mid 2009 and you're good to go.

The current "Late 2011" MacBook Pro should have plenty of horsepower to be viable for the next several years.
Looking at Activity Monitor on mine while running Scratch Live, Mix Emergency and a live camera feed shows only about 10% of CPU resources bring used. The computer is basically loafing.

I had the same dillemma - and there was a couple of key decisions that made me get one now.
#1 - Price. You are gonna pay a little more for the latest and greatest
#2 - Compatibility. Untill its been validated - you might be waiting a while.
#3 - No confirmed release date - how long are you willing to wait for the next, next, next, Mac book pro - as soon as they release it - another one is rumored on the way.
#4 - Stability. There is Mountain Lion on the horizon and an assmebly line change as the Pro's are shrinking. You just might wait 3 months to wish you would have just bought one now.
That was my decision - but be sure to get one of the latest "Late 2011" and newer models as anything less you will have sub-par performance on SV
I just bought a new one because my 2009 MBP just wasnt cutting it - new one runs great
My 2 cents

Is this a Serato Video issue as I can run ME on my 2007 pre-unibody with 0 issues.

I would just add that although the new Intel chipsets are going to be hella powerful, running SL and SV or ME doesn't remotely tax the current line of chips, so it's hard to see any real benefit for what we do coming down the line in future models... Only potential problems. So I'd agree with those who've said the current generation is a wise choice.

Actually the overall speed differences between the new 2012 "Ivy Bridge" and the 2011 "Sandy Bridge" chipsets are fairly minor. The largest improvement is in the "Integrated Graphics", which is obviously of little interest to video DJ's that typically buy MacBook Pros with dedicated GPU's anyway.
Since Lion seems to consume more system resources than Snow Leopard, there may be little to no real-world speed improvement between a "Late 2011" MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and a "Mid 2012" MacBook Pro running Lion.
And as I've said elsewhere, it's almost a certainty that new "Mid-2012" MacBook Pros won't be able to run Snow Leopard at all.
