I just purchased a USED Vestex Typhoon. I connected it to my Acer Aspire. I installed the ASIO driver and Serato DJ Intro 1.0.5. When I open Serato it states hardware disconnected flashing and the decks do not show up. I should state that although I do not have the decks in serato, the lights come up on my vestax and I can control the song on the one cue when I try to load up a song. It still says Hardware disconnected flashing without the decks. Just for a try, i set it up on my imac with OS 10.6.8 and it works fine. I am not sure what else to do. Thanks for any input.

Windows 7 Home Premium to be exact.

Ok a couple of interesting things to note after that. Under device manager, sound video and game controllers, it says TYPHOON DJ-Controller twice, one right under the other. Serato will launch with both decks but freeze and not enable me to do anything except force quit out of it with task manager. I've have tried several of the previous DJ intro versions as well to see if it helps. This didn't do anything though. Prior to doing this, serato would open up, the lights would come on the typhoon and serato would not freeze but it would say hardware disconnected.
Gil L 7:48 AM - 20 March, 2012
UPDATE:
So when I have the ASIO4ALL v2 driver installed, DJ Intro will load 2 decks, a track can be loaded but will not play nor will you see any wave form in the software loaded. Eventually it will freeze and no song can be play with or without the controller. Switching back to the ASIO4TYPHOON, I had some on and off issues where hardware would still show disconnect or program would freeze if 2 decks showed with being able to load anything period.

Hi Gil L,

Can you please try these steps and let me know how you get on. Thanks.

1) Connect your Typhoon.
2) Click the Windows Start button and go to Control Panel -> Device Manager.
3) Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section. The Typhoon will show here as a USB Composite Device.
4) Right click on this and select Properties. Go to the Driver tab and click the Uninstall button.
5) When the "Confirm device uninstall" window pops up click OK.
6) Unplug & replug the Typhoon - you will now get the "Installing device driver software" pop up in your toolbar.
7) Go back to Device Manager and expand the Sound, Video and Game Controllers section. You should now the following devices:
* Typhoon
8) Now start Intro - does it connect now?

Thanks Ron! I will try that and keep you posted. All things considered these specs should be ok to run Serato and the Typhoon correct? The laptop is only 4 months old. Also i was wondering, at the moment I only have the usb connected. Do you think that having the DC power supply plugged in would fix the solution. Perhaps imacs can carry more usb power to devices than laptops. I'm bugged because I bought the device used from Guitar Center and it did not come with any usb cable or DC power supply but i purchased one that meets the proper specs with the vestax typhoon.
Ron M 10:36 PM - 20 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

Your computer specs are more than fine. On Macs there is USB port thats supplies more power than the other. It is usually the USB port near the AC adapter or vice versa. A power adapter would definitely help. Keep me posted. Thanks.

Hi Ron, so I have tried the firmware update which gave me the same results. Then I tried the AC Adaptor and Serato comes up with the 2 decks. When I load a track the track gets loaded but the waveforms do not appear. All of the buttons light up when a track has been loaded, the play cue and cup buttons on the typhoon. I can even adjust the effects but no song will play and the waveforms do not appear. When you press play nothing happens on the vestax typhoon either. I feel like I am getting closer but not close enough. I appreciate your help and persistence on this!

For another trial, I tried it on my 2004 Dell Inspiron running Windows XP Service Pack 3, 2GB of Ram and a Pentium 4 Processor clocked at 2.80GHz. It actually had no problems connecting the hardware and was able to load and play a song, although the music was very jittery and did not sound at the right speed. Probably either due to processing power. The CPU was getting maxed out but did not crash.

Just for a another note, the soundcard on my 2011 Acer Aspire is a Realtek HD Audio. Again thank you Ron!

Hi Gil L,

Did you analyze all your tracks? Let me know. Thanks.

Regards,

Ron
Gil L 7:27 PM - 24 March, 2012
Yes, all tracks have now been analyzed. It still freezes up after loading a song. The waveform on the analyze deck appears but still no waveforms appear in the waveform portion of the program. Are you thinking it is more of a driver issue then software? Thanks again Ron.
Ron M 11:18 PM - 26 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

Can you try testing on another computer? Please let me know if the wave forms appear. Thanks.

Ron
Gil L 12:33 AM - 27 March, 2012
Hi Ron, Yes I have tried it on my intel dual core 2.66GHz, 4GB Ram, 10.6.8 OSX Imac and it works flawlessly. Waveforms and everything appear. No glitches. I have even recorded a mix on it into Pro Tools and it worked fine without any hick ups (i was little concerned with CPU power). I have tried it on my Pentium 4 2GB Windows XP Service Pack 3 Dell Inspiron Laptop (2004), Serato opens sees the controller, able to see the waveforms and play tracks (except when playing there are glitches and plays slow, probably due to old processor and unsupported BUT still will attempt to work). In the mean time I am playing with it on my Imac since it is the only machine it will work with. However, for gigs I was hoping to use my acer since the imac is not practical. I specifically bought the Acer with an intel dual core processor to avoid any incompatibilities like AMD processors have.. What I am wondering is Acer did put a lot of "junk" or unnecessary programs on the laptop. It is possible that a program could be interfering with it. Will Windows 7 Home or Pro make a difference? I also have a Numark DJ2Go with Virtual DJ LE. Would this interfere with it? Do you think a fresh install of Windows would help this matter and NOT from a back-up disc but a pure windows 7 disc. The laptop is only 4 months old. Thanks Ron!
phatbob 12:36 AM - 27 March, 2012
There are some issues with recent ProTools drivers conflicting with some USB audio hardware. Try uninstalling any Digidesign drivers and check their forum to see if there's a fix yet.
Gil L 12:57 AM - 27 March, 2012
Pro Tools is on my imac and it actually works fine simultaneously with Serato opened. My Pro Tools is LE Vers 8.0.5 just be exact (it works great!). The problem is on my Acer Laptop - WIndows 7 Home 64bit which I can't seem to get working correctly. There is no Pro Tools on the laptop. Only on my imac. The only other 2 programs that are on my Acer are: Sony ACID Music Studio 8.0 and Virtual DJ LE for Numark DJ2GO. I really want this working on my Acer.
Gil L 1:02 AM - 27 March, 2012
Thanks for the reply and help tho!
Gil L 5:17 AM - 27 March, 2012
The other thing I just thought of is I wonder if its a 64bit issue? My imac at home is 32-bit. Has anyone experience a problem with 64-bit windows? Thanks!
Ron M 9:53 PM - 27 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

As far as I know it works with 64 bit with out any problems. What kind of video card do you have on your Acer? Let me know. Thanks.

Regards,

Ron
Gil L 10:20 PM - 27 March, 2012
Hi Ron, here are the specs of the laptop from Acer:

Thanks!
Ron M 11:38 PM - 27 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

Thank you for the link provided. I think its an issue with your video card. It seems like its an on board video card by intel. It doesn't really specify what manufacturer for example nvidia, GeForce etc. Did you optimize your acer for the best performance? Let me know. Thanks.

Regards,

Ron
Gil L 12:02 AM - 28 March, 2012
I am not sure if I have done the optimizing part, how do I go about doing this? I'm a v ideo editor and I know that our systems at work use something from Avid called system prep that transforms Windows 7 into a simplified version shutting off all the unnecessary junk windows runs in the background. I was hoping to give this a shot. I'm not by that laptop right now but when I have a chance I will look in to system manager and see if it tells me what video card it is. Thank you Ron! I appreciate your help!
Ron M 12:13 AM - 28 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

No worries. Here is a link in regards of optimizing windows. Thanks.

Gil L 4:59 AM - 28 March, 2012
Hi Ron, Ok so you are right, checking the device manager, the video card is actually an Intel HD Graphics Card. I just updated it. I also have it running on Edprep from Avid which basically turns off everything that is not needed to optimize for best performance. The only thing I wonder about the video card is that when my device is not plugged in I am able to drag a song to the one deck and see the waveform (while it shows hardware disconnected flashing), When I open plug the controller in 2 decks appear but the waveforms do not appear (it will analyize the track) and the software goes buggy.
Ron M 9:48 PM - 29 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

So it does connect now. What format are tracks you are playing? Let me know. Thanks.

Regards,

Ron
Gil L 12:17 AM - 30 March, 2012
everything I have is encoded from Itunes @ 320 kps mp3. it does connect, the problem still relies when adding a track within Serato. The program will lock up and not show the waveforms. I'm thinking about making a video and posting it to help clarify the issue. The song will analyze though.
Ron M 10:21 PM - 30 March, 2012
Hi Gil L,

That would be great if you can post some footage. Thanks.

Ron M 11:37 PM - 6 April, 2012
Hi Gil L ,

Thank you for the footage. Once connected can you switch the typhoon to off and on. I noticed that the typhoon looks frozen. Also, I noticed that your library is not completely loading. There is a little bar on the bottom that indicates that your library and crates are loading. If that doesn't complete it will not allow you to load tracks. Let me know if it ever completes. Let me know if this helps. Thanks.

Regards,

Ron
Gil L 5:05 AM - 7 April, 2012
If the typhoon is disconnected the library will load completely. When the typhoon connects to Serato, it sees the 2 decks but will freeze. i can switch the typhoon on and off once connected. Thanks!
