i was trying to play a movie with an effect throughout my entire set. Is there a way to keep the video playing while still mixing music between decks??? meaning, can I mix my music like normal, but have just one video playing in the background all nite??? thanks

There are Quartz Compositions on mac, but if you literally want to play the same video all night, you might as well open QuickTime player, set it to full screen and loop it.

What are Quartz Compositions???

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I want to play an entire 8 minute video with effects, but mix a bunch of songs while the video is playing. Without opening quicktime, as that doesn't have effects. Is this possible???

Second question, is there an instant video doulbe?? but just video, while playing two different music tracks??? cause then i can just create an instant double, crossfade to that deck, while keeping the video going. Then it would free up the other deck to mix music.

Third question: I'm using an sl 1, but with the sl 4, if I have four decks, can i use two decks to mix the music, and the other two decks to sync up with the video sl (using one computer)??? Also, if I have two computers, and an sl 4, can i have one computer operate two decks for music, and the other computer use the other two decks for video???

Thanks for your help and support

The SL4 as far as i'm aware will only allow 2 deck video mixing at once, so even if you use 2 computers one will be video and one will be audio.
Im sure someone from admin can confirm this.

Dont think there is a video instant double (but maybe in the future release ??)

The only way you can play the video is to drag the video clip onto the mp3 track, then every time you load the track (or tracks) it will play the video file.

There is an external program called mix emergency which can do what you want, but that is not endorsed by serato/rane.

However in the new release of video sl this maybe a feature added in next months update.
Time will tell.

Hi monkechief,

At this stage there isn't a feature in Video-SL that will let you play a video file with a set duration while mixing audio files over the top.

There is however a number of workarounds that will achieve this effect if you want to put the time in.

Firstly, as phatob has mentioned above there is a Quartz Composition that has been created by radikarl that will allow you to play a movie in the background through the Video-Sl video stream. This allows you to mix as per usual your two audio virtual decks over the top.
" Quartz Composer is a node-based visual programming language provided as part of the Xcode development environment in Mac OS X for processing and rendering graphical data."
You may have this installed on your Mac already ?
The patch that radikarl has created drops into your Scratch Live library and you pre determine the video files to play in the Video-SL video stream. It is possible to get this going without knowing a lot about Quartz Composer.
Have a look at this thread; serato.com

Secondly, you could screen capture your video mix with the desired effects and then simply drop that into your virtual video deck every time you load your next song. I would recommend a program called Screenflow for this or if you only want the video part as you say you could use QuickTime to record your Main Mix Output from Video-SL.
Or as phatbob has mentioned, screen capture your video mix from Video-SL and then load it into QuickTime and play this in your Secondary Display.

As far as your third question; Using a 4 channel Mixer/Device as you state above will not resolve this issue for you because the video stream is determined by the primary decks selected on your hardware.

Hope this helps in some way let me know if you have any further questions regarding Video-SL.
