Hello,

I am facing certain issues with my NS6 platter. Sometimes if I hover my hand over the platter, music stops. Other times, scratch function is not working. I tried calibrating the platter multiple times, issue is still not resolved. Any suggestions?

I have Mac OSX 10.7.3

U gotta calibrate them within 30 seconds of turning it on

I calibrated it as soon as i switched it on. But the issue seems to be intermittent. I have never had this problem before. started very recently.

Hi abishek,

Can you ensure you are calibrating correctly? serato.com

When did this problem start happening? Are you able to test your NS6 on a different surface to see if you still experience these issues? Is there any power supplies or electrical cables nearby where your NS6 is situated currently?

Did you recently move its position perhaps?

Hi Martin,

The problem is quite recent. I changed the table where I keep my NS6 a while back but in the same location. There are power supplies and electric cables but those have always been there. I am calibrating according to the instructions given but the issue seems to be intermittent.

Thanks,
Abishek

Could you please still try testing out the NS6 in a completely different location to see if anything helps?

Is it possible for you to also try using a different computer to see if you still experience similar issues?

the issue seems to have disappeared. Is it normal for the music to stop playing if you hover your hand over the platter?

I wouldn't expect that to happen usually, it sounds like they a very sensitive.

If you change it to JOG mode from SCRATCH mode, do you still experience this issue?
abishek 8:37 PM - 16 February, 2012
The issue reappeared again today. First, when I hovered my hand over the platter when it is playing the music stopped. So i recalibrated the platter. Now i am unable to scratch, it is working only in jog mode even if scratch mode is on. Also, if I switch my NS6 off while ITCH is running, ITCH hangs. Is this normal and is it related to the problem i'm having.

ITCH can quite often hang when "hot plugging" the NS6, I would recommend avoiding this if possible.

So have you been able to test this out in a completely different location?

Are you able to test this out with a different computer and see if you still experience the same sorts of issues with your NS6?

@abishek I have had this issue before and was able to replicate it with another NS6 and separate laptop the problem is caused by electrical fields around the unit.
I tested this extensively,
To prove what I am saying the next time you have this issue touch the unit on the metal side at the same time as passing your hand over the platter and it will be fine let go and the problem will return.
The fix is move the unit to another location and all will be OK if that is not an option then try placing a large insulate under the unit I would suggest a few boxes that raise it at least 6-8 inches up and way from the electro field.
I did manage to limit it a bit by earthing the unit but that was only partially successful, as I said at the start making yourself the same potential as the unit i.e touching the side at the same time stops it altogether.
Hope that helps.

Hi Mike,

My unit was still under the 30 day warranty so I got it exchanged. I haven't faced the issue with the new unit as yet. If the issue is with the location, I should face it again soon and I will definitely try out the fix you suggested. Thanks for all the help.

Hey abishek, so you had your unit replaced and have not experienced any problems so far?

Its possible that there was just something wrong with that unit, but you are correct, if there was some issues with the location I am sure you will experience it soon enough, so keep me in the loop as to what happens :)
