DJM-800 is getting price cuts these days. It's pretty tried and true with SSL + Video.

Buy any MIDI mixer. DJM800 are getting cheaper by the day since the 900 is the new top dog. I would buy a DJM900 or DJM2000 if i was in the market for a new mixer. but there's lots of MIDI mixers out there like the PMC05 vetex and some POS Behringer's or Allen and heaths that do MIDI. I would get the DJM 2000 if budget was no issue, the club I work at has a 2000 and i have the touch screen in the center mapped to a whole bunch of efx and stuff for when i do video.

DJM-700 also works for crossfading video. U just need the right midi-usb cable. Cakewalk UM-1G worked for me.

People seem to forget about the denon DNX 1600, and DNX 1700.
The mixers have a cracking setup with the ability to use one channel strip as both midi, and a regular channel fader at the same time.
Loads of buttons to map also.

But there again, people can recommend any mixer, but it depends on what your budget is.
Also why not go and try some out to see what you feel comfortable with.

Loads of buttons to map also.
So dose every other MIDI mixer.
Im not saying that Pioneers are the be all end all mixer, but when you show up at a club with a mixer installed 9/10 times is a pioneer so it helps to be familiar with it.

Hi Dj Daddy Mac,
As mentioned above there are a number of options for MIDI mixers on the market and it will essentially come down to budget.
Rane TTM 57 SL
Rane Sixty-Eight
Soon to be released Rane Sixty-One and Rane Sixty-Two.
The Pioneer DJM series work well with Video-SL and a number of other MIDI mixers that are available.
If you want to keep running your Rane SL 1 box with your current mixer and add a MIDI controller to your setup for controlling Video-SL then this is also an option.
Novation Twitch is a great option for MIDI mapping all of the Video-SL functions.
As far as video pools there is a lot of information in the Video-SL general discussion area but here are a couple to start with;
Xtendamix: xtendamix.com
SmashVidz: site.smashvidz.com
MixMash: www.mixmash.com
Hope this helps let me know if you have any further questions regarding Video-SL.
Kind regards,
Anthony

Sometimes a pic can help a lot in this situation. I'll try and take a picture of my club setup this week if you haven't resolved it by then.

and are you sure you have the right end of the MIDI cable plugged into the mixer.... read the wording carefully on the MIDI cable it is kinda backwards to the way you would think its worded.

Hi Dj Daddy Mac,
No wasted money here. We just need to clarify where your MIDI signal is being routed and that everything is set up correctly.
Connect your x midi 1x1, E-MUcable IN to the DJM 800 MIDI OUT and the USB to your laptop or USB hub.
Now open Scratch Live>Setup>MIDI> The Pioneer DJM 800 doesn't appear in the MIDI list natively. You may have to create a new MIDI Preset.
The x midi 1x1, E-MUcable should appear in the connected MIDI devices list. Enable this and return to the Scratch Live UI.
Press the MIDI start stop button on the DJM 800 to engage MIDI. Do you have MIDI Monitor on your Mac ? free download: www.snoize.com
Use this to check if you are recieving MIDI data.
Now with the Video-SL plugin enabled and open, click on the MIDI TAB top right this will open the MIDI assign panel for Video-SL.
You should now be able to assign the Video-sl functions to your DJM 800 by clicking on the function in the Video-SL panel and moving the required fader/knob/button on the DJM 800.

Hey Anthonys, I Cant get the midi controller working from my Pioneer DJM 700 Mixer. I have routed the Cable as you said and everything appears to be fine except when I try to assign the midi button from Serato, it doesn't works.
I have downloaded the midi data receiver and when connected, every knob or fader I move from my mixer , it responds perfectly !
When I connect the Usb to Scratch Live, (In the Set-up menu, I then select Midi. When connected USB MIDI appears in the box which says (Midi Devices / Connected Midi Devices) allowing me to select Enable midi device on the bottom left corner.
(The box on the right where it says Midi Presets REMAINS BLANK And I am not sure whether its suppose to remain blank)
Can you help please ?????
Thanks

I would worry about presets... just try activating the MIDI button and then clicking on something you want to assign the midi control to. Move the fader/knob or hit the button you want it on and see if it turns green.

@ dj masta g,
Could you please start your own help thread and we will assist you there. The DJM 700 will not appear as a native MIDI controller you will have to create your own preset for that mixer.
@ Dj Daddy Mac,
How did you get on ? Is MIDI working for you now ?
