I am trying use the transitions without the use of the crossfader mapped onto pioneer DJM 800 but by using the channel faders, but other than default none of the other transitions work properly with that!
Is there any way i could use the channel faders instead of the crossfaders for the transitions?

Unfortunately that's not a feature in VSL.
MixEmergency has it as an option.

Oh damn...how do we use the crossfader effects then? does it mean i would have to use both channel fader and crossfader at the same time!?

Why use the channel faders and crossfader at the same time? You can use just the crossfader and have the channel faders on at all time to get it working right :)

Simple solution. Assign the (main) crossfader and up and down faders for your 800. Then just choose whatever transition u want by clicking on it in VSL. ME is much easier cause it picks random transitions when mixing videos. VSL cannot do this yet. I haven't assigned transitions to a certain button or knob. The crossfader will do the transition when your mixing u just have to select 1 in VSL.

But then i have to use channel faders to mix audio and crossfader to mix video..i want to just use ONE to mix both...

Hrmm.. Why not assign all 3 faders? This way you can have the (main) crossfader in the middle and mix the audio/video with 2&3 channel...or have both 2&3 channels "UP" and just use the (main) crossfader. If you want to just use "one" to mix both then choose just the crossfader..Depending on how you mix go with what's best for you. I use (main) crossfader for hip hop and (up and down) channel faders for EDM and keep the (main) fader in the middle and just mix up and down. U see?

Yes i tried that..but when i keep the crossfader in the middle, except the DEFAULT none of the other transitions work...the "other" transitions work only when the crossfader is moved from left to right, and since i am a edm DJ i need to use the channel faders.
But while keeping the crossfader in the middle, none of the other transitions except DEFAULT work(which is quite shite).

Just buy MixEmergency.
It does what you want, and a lot more besides.

I am gonna take your word on that one then :) can you tell me how to as well in ME?

not exactly true. there are few transitions that keep the video playing while fader is in the middle. try diff transitions with the fader in the middle and then try other transitions with the fader to left or right. Some are instant, some are boxed transitions, some are fade they are all different. You just have to remember what transition works with where the fader is placed.

I do not have ME but if you check my video mix you'll notice I use one transition the entire time. I think it's luma key fade or something.. it works for both fader closed and open. I like this transition because it blends the two videos just like an audio mix. I Keep it very simple. However it would be dope to have random transtions for every mix like ME offers..

DJ Techniq why don't you download the ME demo and try the feature we're talking about, then you might have a better understanding of why DJ Shadow Dubai wants it.

I have bro. I love the demo however it does run very sluggish compared to VSL. maybe i need to change settings.

Yeah, you definitely do. ME is way less stressful on a machine than VSL.

But settings are disabled with demo? Yes?

I have not downloaded the new demo of ME. The one I had before had to be run with Serato and ME. Now just ME has to be run?

Nah, it's just time limited, I thought... Fully functional.

Were you trying to run ME with VSL switched on? 'Cos that's never been how it works...

im not sure as it's been awhile. I'll download the demo tommorrow and try it out on my day off.

Hi DJ Shadow Dubai,
This thread seems to have got a little muddled at one point you want to use the Video-SL transitions independently and then further along you want to crossfade both video and audio at the same time.
This is is possible, you can map the Video-SL crossfader to the Pioneer DJM 800 Channel fader and cut the transitions independently of the audio. You can MIDI assign the Transition selection to a rotary knob on the DJM 800 to scroll through the list of transitions and use a MIDI button to select the transition.
You can link the Video-SL channel faders to channel 2 and 3 on the DJM 800 so the Opacity of the Video stream is controlled at the same time as the audio. Or you can assign the two video streams to channel 1 and 4 and audio on 2 and 3 and assign the transition cut to a spare rotary on the mixer.
There are a number of possible configurations for mapping the Video-SL features with the DJM 800 and this will come down to your personal preference. Let me know if you have any further questions regarding this or Video-SL.
