I am having the same problem as well, the messed up thing is, I have some mp4 videos that work perfectly but the new ones I have converted with both Handbrake and Vegas wont show audio, and I have tried multiple variations with both but they still wont play, yet when I compare them using mediainfo, the are almost identical to the ones that do work, the only notable difference being avc main vs avc baseline or ntsc vs pal or baseline@L3.0 vs baseline@3.1
any ideas? Im kinda lost, would this really be a 'version' issue? or am I completely screwing up the encoding process somehow?

As I read through forum I found that using hd videos 720i and 1080i can cause this. I tried raising the video buffer and they started to load. My guess is i need more ram in order to play videos at that resolution. My next step is to download the videos again at a lower resolution and see if that works I'll let you know what i come up with DJ Blaze NZ. If you come up anything els let me know.

try converting videos with a resolution of 640 x 360 all professional video pools use this sized method. I also recommend using mpegstreamclip instead of handbrake.

Hey supersound,
Are you able to upload one of the files you are experiencing issues with so I could take a look myself?
Do these videos play normally in Quicktime?
@DJ Blaze NZ, are you able to start a separate help request outlining you issue so that one of our support team members can assist you individually? That would be awesome :)

No worries supersound, thanks for uploading that file. It appears it does play without issue for me.
So did you install the newest version of Perian available? Are you able to make sure that you have Quicktime installed and that it is up to date?
Also what is your Video buffer set to currently?
Are you able to play this video in the offline player?
Also if you could provide me with your full specs: serato.com
Please include information about your graphics card.

Thanks supersound,
Are you able to find info on your graphics card? If you click on "About this Mac" and check out "More Info" you should be able to find your graphics card under "display."
Also as above, I will need to know what your Video buffer is set to, as well checking if your Perian and Quicktime versions are up to date.
Are you able to play these videos in offline player? (hardware disconnected)

Ok, and so you can play this video in Quicktime no problem right? Can you try it out in some other media players perhaps?
You definitely have Video-SL enabled when trying to play this file in Scratch Live right?
Can you see any correlation between some of the .mp4s you can play and some that you cannot?

i discovered that i need more ram and i need to raise my buffer to 500mb -1G. i tried to play the the files on another laptop like martin and now i see the difference. thanks for all the help martin. Blaze if you have more than 2 gb of ram in your machine you should raise you buffer in video sl setup and see what happens.

Ok, so you are simply limited by your VRAM when it comes to playing some higher definition files?
2GB dedicated graphics memory will be excellent if it possible to upgrade. Any idea what sort of graphics card the other computer had that you tested on?

So your computer has an 8600 GT with 512MB RAM and you have your Video buffer set at 300MB, any more and it gets choppy, correct?
The computer you tested it on has TWO graphics cards, 9600M and 9400M with 512MB and 256MB RAM respectively, and it seems to work a lot better. What did you have the Video buffer size set to on this computer?

On the computer i tested the files on i didn't have to adjust it at all. It was at 200mb. I adjusted the buffer on my laptop to 400 or so and it seems to be a happy medium between the video and the laptop. All of the files are playing but some are choppy. Blaze keep toying around with the buffer. It took me some time but its working good enuff for now.

No problem super sound :)
I would recommend that your quality is set to low, use V-Sync and frame blending.
