I have a Macbook Pro (2008 model) not the unibody one. I ran a cord from the dvi port on my macbook, then on I hooked up a vga cord to the other end of the dvi cord and ran that to a converter box. From the converter box I ran a Y.Cb.Cr Cable to my tv. All I get is the strip screen. Any ideas what I can do.

Hi JSkillz,
Could you please detail your full computer specs including the graphics card that is installed on your MacBook.
Also, please detail the Display Adapters that you are using in this setup and the Secondary Display that you are connecting to ?
It sounds like you are down-converting the DVI connection to VGA and then using a scan converter (BOX) to up convert to Y.Cb.Cr in to your Secondary Display. I will be able to give you more advice as soon as you give us full details of your setup.

Why don't you just get a DVI to HDMI adapter and plug directly to your TV via HDMI. That's what I do with my 2008 MacBook Pro.

Find out what out what outputs your tv has if it's vga then you need a apple mini-display port to vga adapter, or if it's hdmi then you need a mini-display port to hdmi adapter. And of course the cable. either vga or hdmi.. then job done :)

Thanks Dj Unique I will try that.
Dj Tecniq, my computer doesnt have an apple mini-display port... I don't know why, but the macbook pro's that came out before the unibody style don't have that port on it.

On a pre-unibody things couldn't be simpler.
You have a DVI port on the laptop, which also supports analogue out.
So it all depends what inputs your TV has.
Composite (single yellow phono): Apple DVI to Video adaptor. No scan converter needed.
VGA: Apple DVI to VGA adaptor.
DVI: A DVI cable is all you need.
HDMI: A DVI to HDMI adaptor. DVI and HDMI are the same video signal, just HDMI devices like Blu Ray players send audio over the HDMI too, and DVI can't do that.
Sorted. The only option that is a hassle is Component, but I'd be shocked to see a TV or monitor that doesn't have AT LEAST one of the other options.

JSkillz - in searching for a different question, I came across this thread. I think the issue you're having is that the KWorld box only supports up to a certain resolution. You're trying to output a higher resolution than it will handle. Try lowering the screen that you're trying to output to a lower res, such as 1024x768. Try different resolutions to see which works. I'm having the same issue when I'm trying to output at 1280x768, which the KWorld PCtoTV doesn't support. Trying to find a better converter box that will handle this format. Hope this helps.

@ David Alga
Thanks for the info here mate. This may be the problem here.
@ JSkillz
Have you tried outputting different resolutions to your display adapter ?
System Preferences>Display>Secondary Display resolution settings.

Thanks everybody for your help. I found a DVI cable that goes to a HDMI. It actually works perfect. I am not sure if a converter box is really needed... The cord that I am using seems to be putting out great picture.

I have that Converter box and it works perfect. been using it for a year. make sure you have the switch on Y.Cb.Cr or just use the composite out (Yellow)
And The Most Important 1 is to make sure you have the Cable right. its the Black one that goes to the box. Its say's Scan Converter on it.
My Friend had this problem. I asked him 50 time's (No BS) cause he wasn't getting nothing Do You Have the (Y Cable) black cable that say's scan Converter on it connected to the box and he keep saying yeah.
But he still was getting nothing. I knew he couldn't have it hooked up drove over his house (45 Minute Drive) and guess what.
Yep the cable was not the one that came with it he was using.
It was another cable he made. Talk about being mad. I'm like man You owe me lunch and gas. His Girl was like I told You he was talking about that cable.
We Went thru this for 3 day's cause I knew he wasn't doing it right.
