Hi Phono Jones,
The new Rane Sixty-Two mixer will have video support inside Scratch Live when it is released.
Cheers :)

and there is no need to have 2 mixers with it on there being a 2 channel mixer.

So the 62 can do everything the 68 can do when it comes to Video Sl, midi mapping etc.. There hasnt been much info on the 62 and video Sl.

On the Rane site it says that both the 61 & 62 will be compatible with VSL (whatever that means, lol)

Okay, but will it be "midi-like" as the 57 was or will it be "real-midi" so you can map 3rd party software actions (let's just use MEs effects as an example ;-)) to the buttons & knobs of the 62/61?

This what I'd like to know aswell. I'm thinkin it'll be real MIDI cause the Serato name isn't on the mixer anywhere, but I could be wrong.

@marx: well within the tiny little world of the serato software u could map the 57 the way you wanted, that's why I called it midi-like. ;-)

its midi, the asio/ core drivers will also be released immediately when the mixer comes out (68 drivers werent released for 6 months), since the 62 has a back button it means it is midi... its the way u scroll your library.... slightly different than the 57, on the 57 the left knob scrolls crates the right knob the songs, with midi its different........ both knobs scroll whatever section is highlighted..... so when you get to the crate you want you push either p1 or p2 (doesnt matter) to select the crate, and then to load the song you push the corresponding side... then you use the back button to get back into crates, at first i didnt like it because i was used to the 57, but then i realized its much more versatile because with the midi system you can load tracks from the prepare window and search window, when i last tried i could only load tracks with a 57 from my crates.....anyway since it has a back button , its midi.....

I think the 62 is over-rated and 61 has been dummied down. Why take away the cue button... I don't think that would've been to much to ask for.. Maybe Rane should've ask what features should've been included on each mixer... But it is their product and they can make it just the way they want to

oh, cue POINT button.
thought you meant audio cue button.
even though i use dicers for cue points that does mess things up considering my setup is fully custom. those cue point buttons definitely helped a lot.

And even to find out the capability of the 61.. there's only a lil information about it.. most video's touch on the but go into great detail about the 62... And how dumb is it to have to set ups on one mixer.. that to me mean I have to reach over two turntables/cdj's to use the mixer... Unless your going to put the mixer between each set up and either was is still stupid

fully mappable, big deal. would need to add another midi controller to switch from a 57. seems like a downgrade and it probably is meant to be.

people keep comparing the 57 to a 61. The 61 is more like an upgraded 56s with an audio interface. It is a mixer for people that use external midi controller and don't want the added expense of two sound cards and internal effects (already pioneer 1000). For people in this category this mixer is an awesome buy! Cheaper than a 57 and removes stuff they don't need or can add later.

61 speaks midi as well as the 62.
only thing is - whats already pre mapped / a mixer function will not be disabled (on both of them).
but you DO can use e.g the "session in" knob to turn something in SSL, in case you don't actually need the session in.
(because turning the knob would still affect the session in volume, can't disable that)

lots of people use the mic controls of the sixty eight to control the DJ FX.
you can obviously do the same on the sixty one, as long as you don't need a mic.
www.rane.com, page two:
MIDI mapping is done for you as the Sixty- One is plug-and-play with Serato Scratch Live. Advanced users can custom map most mixer controls to many other third-party audio programs. The MIDI control assignments are in the Sixty-One Manual.

As much as free is fun, and when I was younger I didn't mind running free flavors of Linux and downloading pirated copies of this and that... I realize that my time and others is worth money. Some folks will never understand that so it's no point in arguing it with them.
While it may KEEP me from upgrading as fast, if a product has features I want, be it hardware or software, I will eventually buy it.

I totally know what you mean. But until rane makes a good 4ch mixer (not holding my breath), why force it when you can get better stuff from other manufactures.
Heres an idea for you.
Do you take your own decks with you to most of the places you play? and if not your own decks your own mixer? if so why not get a mixer case or full coffin case, build your serato box into it with the mixer. and set it up so you dont ever take the mixer out of the box, all of the cables could live in the case also. it would make for quick setup's.
I used todo this, but most of the clubs i play at have 2000's and a DJM mixer of some kind already. And any of those clubs dont want me moving there stuff just to setup the same stuff in my cases with cables. :( so i just organize the hell out of my cables in my DJ bag into colour coded pencil cases.

I actually do exactly this. I have two of my 1200's, my DJM-800, and SL-3 box in a coffin case with everything already pre-wired and all cables neatly tied up and organized.
Everything is very secure too...there is padding to cover the space between the 1200's and the top of the case and the SL-3 is velcroed to one of the carpeted shelves inside the case. The power cords for everything are plugged into a surge protector that's in the coffin as well, so all I have to do is run one power cable to an outlet and I'm good to go.
It's a great setup but unfortunately it's basically impossible to carry by myself. Usually have to get one of the door guys at the places I play at to help out, or if it's a wedding I'll ask someone from the staff. If you bring all your own gear to the places you play at (and you're friends with the door guys) then I'd highly recommend looking into a similar setup.
But if all you have to bring is your own mixer then getting a flight case with the SL box inside and wired up like Code:E recommended is a great idea too.

The Rane 68 is a more than good 4 channel mixer...use one and you will see!

Been there done that..... the 68 leave lots to be desired. Biggest issue i have is placement of knobs on the mixer, everything is too close together. I would take my Xone92 or any top end DJM mixer(800/900/2000) any day of the 68.

Yeah I was thinkin bout the 68. That would give me what I want but I read a lot of things like it had some faulty issues.

the only 'REAL' problem is the midi cue buttons (useable for everything except drumming)...everything else is butter!

i just don't like the sound of the effects. to me it seems quite obvious on a pioneer when the effects are on and less obvious on a 57.
