If this is wrong channel for the problem, please forward me to the right one.
My ttm57sl is making this really annoying noise occasionally on my sample recordings. Please listen the sound clips from avohoi.to
There is three different recordings taken with rane's TTM57SL:
sample1take1.wav and sample1take2.wav which are the same sample recorded in two different times . The first one is having the strange noise im talking about. The second recording is just a new recording from the same vinyl and from the same position, but strangely without the noise.
Then there is the sample2threetakesarow.wav which is just three different recordings in a row and the noise is on the second recording at 10 to 13 seconds of the clip. I've used the stop-button on my technics 1200mk2 to make the noise sound more clearly.
So its impossible to record samples from the vinyls since very often there is that annoying noise which makes it impossible to use the sample on my projects. You can't hear the noise from the headphone-output. Its only appearing on the recording in the computer.
I've tried to change the buffer size and the sample rate, but seems like nothing helps. I've also tried different programs to record but that helps nether (Audacity and ableton live). Seems like its hardware problem…

Hey Jari,
Are you referring to that crackling noise in the recordings?
A few questions :
- Does this happen with both channels? Both turntables? What about if you try plugging the turntables into different inputs?
- Can you try using a different USB cable? It's possible your one is faulty.
- Make sure the dipswitches on the back of the 57 are set to recieve a Phono level input (unless the turntables happen to be Line level).
- Have you tried recording vinyl with your 57 on another computer? Or alternatively recording with another 57 on your computer?
Cheers :)

Hello,
Its not the crackling noise in the vinyl recordings, but more like digital error, much like the noise you receive when you have too small buffer size. You can hear this clearly on the samples I've recorded (you can hear them from the link from the original post).
I'll reply again as soon as I have tried your methods.
Best Regards,
Jari

It does the same thing with every channel and even with my another turntable. I also tried using different usb-cable, but it didn't help nether. Dipswitches are already set correctly.
But when I tried recording with my old PC, it didn't do the distorsion? It seems like my macbook pro is guilty. Strange thing is that it does that digital "distorsion" only with the ttm57sl and only every third or fourth record attempt. Is there anything I can do?
Br,
Jari

Hmm, and you never get this same problem when using Scratch Live? (with control records)
-What version of Scratch Live are you using? You can check in the bottom left hand corner of the Setup screen.
-Do you have anything else plugged into your computer's USB ports?
-If you plug something else in like a CDJ or ipod and record a song with the TTM 57SL, do you get the same noise?
Let me know :)

Scratch live and the control records are working just fine (No errors while playing mp3:s). I havent tried the scratch live's record feature, but it doesn't fit my needs anyway.
Scratch live version 2.2.0 (22033)
I tried plugging in my ipod but it didn't affect whether it was plugged or not.

You mean you aren't using the 'Record' tab in Scratch Live to record your vinyl? How are you recording it then?
Can you please make sure you are following our guide on archiving vinyl here : serato.com
Also, Scratch Live 2.3 is out. You can download it here : serato.com

As I wrote on the first post I'm using audacity (I also tried ableton live) since it is possible to use ttm57SL as audio interface.
I'll update my scratch live and try it the way on the guide and let you know what is the situation.

Yea it seems like recording through scratch live-software solves the problem. I didn't know you have to do it that way. BIG thanks from the help Logan! :)
