Hi
I understood that the Rane Sl3 would work as an external soundcard for my laptop as well as a scratch live interface.
eg, I would like to be able to use my Rane SL3 to play music from itunes when I'm not djing.
Is that possible?
I can see a device in the windows mixer which I think is the Rane device:
Independant RTC Headphones
Is this correct/possible?
Many thanks
James

you can use the sl3 as a sound card in music editing software that supports asio devices, but the geniuses at Rane (and i say Rane as they said in another thread that they made the drivers) decided not to allow it be used as a windows default audio device
but of the flip side on a Mac you can use it the way you describe.

We went with ASIO drivers over WDM drivers for performance reasons. In a nutshell, ASIO drivers are way better for audio applications than Windows' default WDM drivers :)

Hi Shaun
And are Asio drivers available to windows or do all the normal windows applications just use WDM?
Many thanks

Most Windows applications do not support ASIO. ASIO support is typically integrated and supported by third-party applications (e.g. Ableton, Virtual DJ, PCDJ, Traktor, Reason, Logic and etc) that require faster streaming and lower latency.
