The record feature and better output quality are worth more then $179 to me. Its still money well spent.

I've abused the recording feature.

Every gig I set a new recording and 4 hours later stop that recording and the next day I go back and either render some out or just use the audio.

could u do the same with screen flow????

was recommended to me but i dunno about using it on a gig as i dont want to push my laptop unnecessarily

the crowd may not know the difference, but the person using the software will. And if you didn't notice a difference...wow.

It definitely makes my life easier by not having to worry about assigning an ambient to songs with no video.

however, there is more to add. the bar club owners, at least on my setup, notice a difference.
that is pretty important to me. i have gone in most places and they complain about the "other guy" and how they run video. i don't need to explain how that is a benefit.

sure, if you JUST use the video program and let it sit there the differences are going to be minimal.
i am not going to go into a whole thing about which program is better than the other.

if you do just let the program only run video and add no extra touches or any side work, YES, you totally wasted $179. that sucks.

at this point for me just playing is not enough and totally boring. it was well worth the price, well worth.

Just Got in from spinning video. Did the old version of serato Tonight Instead of the new one. end results.

crowd could careless what I was using SSL 1.3.0 or 2.20. they couldn't tell the difference. I got the same crowd response of 500 people on the dance floor grooving. I feel like I wasted my time upgrading now cuz it didnt make a difference with the crowd if it was Serato Scratch Live 1.30 or 2.20.

or even using vinyl compared to the lastest DVS system.

i dont think you would see a difference in ONE night! so if for some reason you would've spun nothing but audio that night and you would've rocked the crowd anyway, would you think ALL the money you spent on VSL and music videos would've been a waste??? or if instead of your $2,500.00 68 mixer you would've used your friends $300.00 sl1 off craigslist's box and you still rocked the crowd..you would've think that you spent that money for nothing??? If nothing else you have piece of mind that if ME crashes you can reload it with no effect on the music your playing, same is not true with VSL

^very true, and if u use MixLaunch, u dont even need to reload ME, it will reload by itself. but I have yet to have ME crash on me.

hear hear! although i had the reverse happen to me last weekend. SSL crashed, zero audio but the video was still playing! haha! lucky it was early in the night so impact was minimal!

you know maybe I'll try and use VSL tonight instead of ME and yeah 95% of the crowd won't know and the other 5% will because they won't see a spinning logo, text scrolling across screen and some familiar transitions.

The one person who will know that it's not Mix Emergency is me and that's what matters a lot.

The crowd don't care what you use, but you're damn straight the dj cares what he's using or we'd all be spinning on shitty pc's.

Some of you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I've had VSL crash a couple of times in all the years I've used it (AND GRANTED, USING IT ON THE LOW END MACBOOK 2.0 GHZ). However, when it crashed, SSL kept playing and there was no audio interruption. Also, it RESTARTED on its own. I didn't have to do anything.


Now, having said that, I"m glad I got a new MBP Quad Core. Now, I'm going to give ME a try.
People certainly won't notice and won't care if I use ME or VSL.

As a matter of fact, I wish VSL wouldn't restart on its own. Once I tried to force quit it cause I wanted to reset something in the middle of a gig and the damn thing popped up again. lol

that's a SUPER EASY fix actually. you don't have to force quit it.
when you get that restart loop in vsl just follow this path in SSL.
setup>plugins>uncheck "enable Video-SL plugin"
as soon as you do that the restart loop will stop, just recheck it and you are good to go.

Ok So we have a few super die hard fans of VSL (and like I said before since the new version is about to drop they really have something to stick their chest out for now) and We have fans of ME... Does it really matter @ this point who likes what... who's gonna stay true to VSL or ME.. cause it seems as those who are aware of ME and still want to stand true to VSL or Serato Video or whatever the new name is going to be.. Why go back and forth about the same shit over and over and over again... Their happy the people who pay them are happy and the people who come out to see them every week are happy.. So let them live on their own little VSL Island out in the middle of "the Video Mixing sea" and while others make advances in what they love to do... Just keep anyone who wants to be informed about an alternative to VSL well informed. this has become another VSL/ME bitchfest

Yo man it's not about the app you use it about how good your are. ME is not going to make you a better Video DJ unless you are doing some crazy shit with ME. Use ME in a way that you never used VSL. Any one can play video if they have video files but if you not using a Cam feed, Syphon plug-in, recording video sets, and some of the better transition's then it was a waste!

Im sure your venue would notice all the presets of text and logo's flyers you could instantly fire up on the screens....

They get that. I make mp4 logo's from there logo and use Final Cut Pro X or Imovie11 and add things to it and if the song dont have a video I throw that on there. I use the text and have people birthday name going across the screen. pictures and everything. The send it to me and I add it. but im just say that I with serato on there decision to change up things to support there new product. they came with a new mixer everybody wanted now eveybody is mad cause it don't support ME. Why not be mad at ME for not being able to stand on his own 2 feet. thats like you having your own system and the club needs sound and instead of you bring it you hire a middle man to bring the sound and charge them more. if your paying $500 xtra and getting $500 to dj why not cut the middle man and make $1k and do it yourself and pay a friend $150 to help. Cause sooner or later if the person finds out the guy doing sound is a dj and he gives him a deal and say I will dj for $700 and do sound or even $500 they go cut yo ass loose and go with him. This is what happen to and dj I know he keep renting my equipment charging them more money and one of the bike guys came to a party I was Doing and was like I didnt know you DJ and ask for a Card, He was like didnt you do sound for Cocky Riders and I was like Yeah. Well they called me they next day saying we want you to DJ But you need a system how much I said $1000 they said ok cool. signed a contract and deposit. come to find out the other dj wanted $2000 and they was like cut the middle man and find the source. they was like we see you van at all the big event's like the annual's. Im like yeah I do the sound for pretty much all the DJ's. Now if inklen was to go back and work with serato then maybe it would be cool. but itch is about to bring a shit load of new VJ aboard. and if ME wasn't go support itch then the itch user's could careless about it. When I'm playing a new video that most havent seen or a old school video and have effects going there get mad like let the shit play (someone really said that) and I listen to my crowd or the person paying me. If there like No Scratching just blending cause the crowd dont like it then thats what I do. I got a boy in vegas that say's all the Video DJ's are wack out there. He's like they dont even blend there video's. im like wow. but back to serato. I don't see why everybody is bitching about them on there own program or rane with there own mixer. its there platform and there own product, they dont need to piggy back off now one else program to work. they built there own program and platform. So thats what Inklen Should do.

as for the Video DJs in Vegas, you dont have a clue either obviousely. My boy Crime is the 2011 WMC VDJ Champion, he plays there alongside a lot of dope video djs I know

I just did a test.

I had serato open in offline mode and was cueing some vids, so I decided to open VSL, the output was not very crisp as I had a lyric video up to check the text.

I then opened up ME and the text was very sharp.

Not sure if it has to do with being in offline mode or if there is a hi-q setting for Video SL, but I could clearly see the output quality difference.

Wonder if the new version of VSL will improve on the difference we all see..

to answer your question there is a high quality setting in VSL. it's in the output settings in VSL panel but can't be used offline mode.

dont waste your time... its already been determined that Virtual DJ (on a decent video card) and Mix Emergency between 80-100% quality is better than VSL on "Best"

Its really difficult to tell the difference between VSL 1.2 and Mix Emergency 1.7, when Mix Emergency is in the 65-75% quality range, and VSL is on Best...
Mix Emergency at about 90-100% is the same as Virtual DJ

(Same file, 1280x720 23.976 file, arguabably "HD"

I ran BEST on VSL on PC for over 2 years.

but more importanly, what looks good on my Samsung 1080p 120Hrz 1,000,000,000 to 1 CR
looks different at my club which has 2 profectors and 30 TVs, mix bag of 60,120,240 hrz, different models, resolutions.... ect ect.
so being able to tweak master video output settingS in ME is PRICELESS!!!!!

Also worth noting...if you try to run VSL on "best", the CPU load will be fairly incredible and you're almost guaranteed to drop a lot of frames even on recent hardware/dedicated 512mb+ GPU. Especially if you try using any effects or certain transition types.

ME's output looks better with WAY lower CPU usage.
