This could be for a number of reasons.

Firstly, you are restricted by your Video card which will scale the output image according to its display properties.
Secondly, if you are using a 'splitter/amp' as you are referring to this will also scale the image according to its display properties. What model/make is the 'splitter/amp' that you are using ?
Thirdly, the performance settings within the Video-SL software plugin will also have an effect on your Mix Output.

Could you give me a little more detail on your computer, processor, ram, video card and internal/external hard drives you are using.

Make sure your video card drivers are up to date.

i5 2.53ghz laptop with 8gb of ram, Nvidia geforce gt435m with 1gb or 2gb of ram i cant remeber. and i have to internal 640gb hd, 1 for music/videos & the other for OS and programs

Thanks for the extra info could you also tell me how you are splitting the output to your external monitors. What make and model of splitter you are using ?
