I have edited some music videos in iMovie to enable me to make club mixes. I use the original track on either mp3 or wav to ensure the highest quality of audio for playing out. The original tracks show up as fine in serato, but once i export them from iMovie (having checked they don't clip) they show up as corrupted files in serato, but still play fine...any ideas?! as i wouldn't want it to crash on me mid set!!

Hi gilesb,

It would depend on what export settings you are using from iMovie. When you export your mix make sure you export .MP4.
I tested this in Scratch Live 2.2.2 and managed to reproduce the issue here. I would suggest if you have the time you could test the Serato Scratch Live 2.3 Public Beta which is available for download here: serato.com (at the bottom of the link )
You could also upload one of the corrupt files to this thread so I can take a look at it.

Let me know how you get on and we'll take it from there.

Hi AnthonyS,

I have ensured that the video is exported as .MP4 and the audio is as AAC as recommended.

I will try out the public beta, but don't want to risk that in a live show this weekend. At the same time i'm also worried about the files crashing during playback during my sets, even though they seem to play fine in import mode.

I have attached one of the music video files for you to look at. I also have some video loops which don't have sound. These are also showing as corrupt audio....? Basically any files i put into serato in the past week or so have come up as corrupt audio. Normal audio files are going in fine with no problems.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, i have noticed in the same time frame that this has been happening, that whenever i add new files to serato and close it down it always crashes forcing me to do a force quit. Do you think this may be related?!

Hi gx2iyn94,

Ill have a look at the files and if you could just confirm which version of Scratch Live you are running 2.2.0 or 2.2.2. This can be found at the bottom left corner of the setup screen in Scratch Live.

Hi AnthonyS

I'm running 2.2.0 Can't find 2.2.2?
Further developments, but likely linked are that: in my set last night i loaded a track which had a music video linked to it which caused Serato to freeze....the track that was playing out continued to play fine and the video for that track still played, but the spinning wheel was just there and i couldnt do anything with the other deck...fortunately i have a backup laptop which i quickly switched over my sl3 to whilst i reset the main mac.

Hi gilesb,

Ok, I downloaded the files both appear to be corrupt for one reason or another. I tested them in Scratch Live v 2.2.2 so this will not fix your issue. I tested a couple of exports from iMovie which successfully imported into Scratch Live 2.2.2.
As you have sent me file types .avi and a .mov I would suggest you use .MP4 as these are more stable and recommended. I have tested a couple of exports from iMovie and I would suggest using these settings for you to test on your machine.

When exporting from iMovie after you have completed your remix:
Share>Export Using Quick Time>Movie to MPEG 4
Click on the Options Button
File Format: MP4
Video Format: H.264
Image Size: 1280 x 720

And your preferred Audio Settings.

Also could you give me a little detail on your hard drive set up and where your audio/video files are stored. Internal / External hard drive ?

Also, Handbrake with the Video-SL preset installed is recommended for direct encoding to a Video-SL friendly file type.

Let me know these few details and give the iMovie export a go and we'll take it from there.

Hi AnthonyS

Thanks very much for your continued support!

I have converted the files i have been having problems with using Handbrake and seems to have solved the corrupt file issue! Simple things make a big difference i guess?! This has also solved the issue with Scratch Live crashing when i load any new videos and then close it down!

Many thanks for your help and keep up the amazing work!!
