Hardware: rane-ttm57sl
Computer: mac
OS Version: 10.6.7

I rip a good quality DVD put the videos in imovie 11 to cut it and export it with resolution 960x540. Videos with 6-7 minutes have average filesize from 160MB to 230MB with the format m4v.
If i play it with Video-SL the quality is much lower as i play it with itunes.
Is there something i can do to get better quality videos?

Adjust your settings in VSL setup. You can try High Quality and see if it causes issues with your graphics card. If it doesn't I would try using that setting. What model Macbook Pro are you using and what is your graphics card/chip? You can find this under Apple>About this Mac>More Info...

Hi Lampi,
As carter suggests having a play around with the Video-SL performance settings will help the Video-SL Mix Output and performance. I would also look at the Media Treatment Setting in the Video-SL Setup window. If the Video is Stretched in Video-SL it wont look as good as it will 'preserved'.
Curious to know what you are using to rip and encode your DVD's ? Do you have Handbrake installed with the Video-SL preset ?
Also, could you give me a little more detail on your Mac Specs ?

Hello
i use the new mac book pro 17" 2,3Ghz i7 with Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M
VSL settings: 16:9, letterbox, best quality, normal output,
I rip the DVD´s because i´m in progress to build a dj set with video. For each soundfile i cut and beatsync video in imovie.
Yes i installed Handbrake but i rip the dvds with MacXDVD.

Hi Lampi ,
Ok, cool now I have a little more info we can figure out where the 'loss' in quality is happening.
At a guess it sounds like the quality is being compromised in the ripping process but I will need to have a look at this before we can confirm.
Which version of MacX DVD are you using ? is it the free download version ?
Your Mac Specs and Videos-SL settings seem to be all good :)

I would actually drop that "best quality" down to "high quality." Unless you're displaying out in HD, which most users aren't, all you're doing is adding more strain on your GPU. Just a suggestion.
