Ns6 Major problem with firmware upgrade

I advise all NS6 owners not to update to the newest Firmware for the NS6 until whatever problem with the update are fixed...
This is the problem, I purchased a NS6 unit and played with it for a few days then decided to update the firmware that was available. Big mistake, the computer couldn't see the NS6 at all after the update, "Hardware Disconnected". Even after uninstalling all drivers and software related, rebooting the computer, reinstalling software and drivers then trying again still no connection. This was tested on both Macbook pro and Windows XP.
The story doesn't end there, I brought the NS6 back to Sam Ash for an exchange and they did it with no problem. I asked the manager is they can update the unit to the newest firmware before I leave the store and he said no problem. 10 Minutes later this unit has the same problem after the Firmware update. Serato/Numark lets goooo................ I know there are going to ne issues at the beginning so here is a big one that needs fixing A.S.A.P lego.........

I updated my NS6 to the latest firmware yesterday (11th June 2011) with no problems whatsoever. It sounds like a problem with your NS6?

I agree there's a problem but with 2 different NS6 and the same firmware download and a rep from Sam Ash doing the same thing I did with the same result, kinda strange..

I had the same issue. But, initially I didn't use the CD to install. I dl'ed it from this site. So, I started thinking maybe somehow the dl software may be corrupted or erred. So, I removed 1.8.125 and reinstalled this time from the cd. No problems now whatsoever.

Sounds like a computer issue. Seriously I wouldn't label this issue as major problem. Serato Itch is working for every other NS6. Be patient I'm sure admin will come around to help.

Take a look at page 28 in the full reference manual for the NS6/serato. It describes how to calibrate the NS6 should you have problems after loading new firmware. Maybe this will help?

Tried that.
Computer issue with 2 different computers one MacBook pro and the other windows xp. Highly fought a computer problem especially when I'm a IT Admin. I'm not the only person having thus issue. Check the forums.
I can't calibrate hardware if the computer doesn't see the hardware to begin with.

You clearly haven't read page 28 as I suggested since you don't connect the computer to calibrate the NS6.

I also had an issue with updating the firmware. When I went to use it afterward the headphone out (pfl) or cue, wouldn't work. I closed itch and reopened it and it works flawlessly. I even used it last night for 5 hours without a glitch.

I don't know what calibration your referring to. I checked the manual and see nothing on page 28 nor any where else. Please explain. I really don't think this will work because this is clearly an firmware update issue.

here's the link to the manual - serato.com
and if that's too difficult for you then this is how to calibrate:-
NS6 CALIBRATION
If you load new firmware to the NS6, or if you ever experience problems with your knobs or faders (a very rare occurrence), the NS6
can be recalibrated. Follow these instructions to calibrate the unit.
1. While holding the right Deck's SYNC button, turn the NS6's power on. HOT CUE BUTTONS 1-5 will flash.
2. Set both PITCH FADERS to the maximum position (closest to you).
3. Press the left Deck's SYNC button.
4. Set both PITCH FADERS to the minimum position (farthest from you).
5. Press the left Deck's SYNC button.
6. Set both PITCH FADERS to the center position.
7. Press the left Deck's SYNC button.
8. On the left Deck's STRIP SEARCH sensor:
a. Touch and hold the right-most position (where you would ordinarily touch to jump to the end of a track). Press the left
Deck's SYNC button.
b. Touch and hold the left-most position (where you would ordinarily touch to jump to the start of a track). Press the left
Deck's SYNC button.
Note: Make sure the whole pad of your fingertip – not just part of it – is touching the end of the STRIP SEARCH sensor.
9. Repeat Steps 8a-b with the right Deck's STRIP SEARCH sensor.
10. Calibration is complete! You may start using NS6.

This didn't work. Any other bright ideas besides bringing it back because if I have to go through this I might as well. Any help from Serato would be nice.

Bring it back for a exchange is my suggestion. This is exactly why I started this thread. I couldn't fix this problem, (I'm a computer tech), neither could Sam Ash.

You will get an overwhelming response that Macs work better, but there are plenty Windoze users here that have no issues.

I recommended that link myself twice above but have gotten no response on it. It might help if he created his own help request with system specifications and a DPC latency check - then we might be able to see what's going on. It might also help if he answered if he did that or not :/

Is there some sort of MIDI checker for Windows? It's only when I did this for OS X that I realised that the Mac installer doesn't always work, and that I had to install the MIDI drivers separately.

Has anyone found the proper fix for the firmware issue with NS6 & Serato ITCH? I've read others have this similar problem, but I haven't found a solution yet... I have Serato ITCH 1.8 running on my PC W7, connected to the NS6. It's been working fine all along, but today I decided to upgrade the NS6 firmware via the ITCH software. In the middle of the upgrade process, I got an unknown error and as of then the NS6 unit is no longer being recognized by any of my DJ software. The USB PC finds it (via Device Manager), but ITCH nor VDJ7 does not connect. I think the firmware file on the NS6 is corrupted. How do I restore, backroll, or manually re-install? Thanks.

By the way, found the solution to the problem... solution: contact Numark support so they can assist you in restoring the firmware - manually. Please note, Numark Midi Updater utility is required.
Steps:
First, install Numark Midi Updater utility:
- Install the utility by clicking "MidiUpdaterSetup.exe". (Follow directions and allow Desktop shortcut to be added)
Next, put your NS6 into Update Mode (erased status):
1. Power OFF NS6
2. Attach to Windows PC via USB (note: NS6 Drivers must be installed for recoginiton)
3. Power ON NS6 while holding down the FWD, LOAD A and LOAD B buttons.
4. When you see CUE button on right deck blinking, press CUE. (This will erase the old FW.)
Note: You should now see the LOOP IN button on the left deck lit solid white.
Last, update the FW using Midi Updater:
1. Be sure the update mode procedure (above) is complete and USB is still connected.
2. Double Click "Midi Updater" to open
3. Drag "NK18_v1.13.sys" file into the Midi Updater main window.
4. Click "OK" for the Important message prompt (steps above have already prepared the unit). Click start update if asked.
You will now see NS6 Loop LED's flicker across the unit. A progress bar in the updater will be displayed.
Important: Wait for the entire send to complete. do not interrupt. If interrupted, you will need to execute the process from the top.
5. When send is complete, the Right Deck CUE button will blink RED. (Updater will ask you to check your device. Click OK).
6. Press the blinking right CUE button to confirm.
7. Remove USB cable from NS6
8. Power NS6 OFF then back ON.
