Hi everyone
I`m kinda new with vsl and I would like to hear a few opinions before i use VSL live.

My video library is almost ready to go but I cant find the right setup for me.
I have a macbook pro 13" 2.26 ghz with 4GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM Westren Digital (the mac comes with Nvidia 9400M graphics card).
Every time I try to run VSL Scratch live goes very slowly and even stucks.

How much buffer is enough? Should I go with "low" video quality? or maybe I need to dicrease Scratch Live`s performance?

And a diffrent kind of Q, where does scratch live saves the analyze data for videos? is it on the file itself or inside a folder?

help a new guy with your knowledge please :)

Hi Shay Manshary,

Your Mac Book Pro and Video Card specifications meet recommended benchmarks for using Video-SL.
Have you tried increasing the buffer size in Video-SL>Setup>Info TAB. This should help.
When your performing live make sure that your internet connection is Disabled so doesn't use system resources.
Are you using Turntables or CDj's ?

Scratch Live writes the metadata to the .mp4 file itself, if it can't it will write to an xml file in the metadata folder.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Could be the mac is getting overheated. Download SmcFanControl for mac so it cools down the laptop. esp when running vids

Hi Shay Manshary,

Lets try a couple of other things.
Have you installed Perian for Mac ? This will help decoding video files. You can download Perian Here:
perian.org

Try turning Off> Use V Sync and turn Off> Use Frame Blending in Video-SL Output settings. Does this make any difference to the video performance ?

Is the performance sluggish on all your videos or specific videos ? Are you using Handbrake to encode your videos for Video-SL ?
Download Handbrake Here: handbrake.fr

It is recommended you use the Handbrake Video-SL preset for Mac which can be found in the "Downloading and Installing the Video-SL preset" section here: sera.to

If you notice that it is specific videos that are sluggish you can attach them to the help thread and I will have a look at the files.

Let me know how this goes :)

Dj Tecniq-
Thank you, i needed this indeed.

AnthonyS-
Seems like all I had to do is install Perian, everything now works a lot faster.
My were encoded from Vegas, this wasnt the problem (All are MainConcept AVC\AAC MP4).

If there will be anything else I'll post here
Thank you all for the tips and help :)

will an 8gb ram upgrade give me something?
