How do YOU "Echo Out"

This is pretty popular effect and I've tried to replicate it a few times in Itch and it can be done, but really not all that great --- maybe there's a better way. Currently I set my delay to 1/1 and put the dry wet at max and assign it to the deck I want. When the word comes on that I want to echo out on I turn on the FX button and on the next beat I press the play/stop button and it creates somewhat of an echo for that one beat. There's a little build up sound on that 1 beat though that doesn't too smooth, and the echoing portion fades away rather quickly. Hoping this is an effect that the team is looking to implement in version 2.0
So how do you guys do it....and are you happy with how it sounds in comparison to how other softwares and hardware do it.

This is what disappointed me with the NSFX as soon as I got it... the simple echo or delay effect. I have no absolute answer for you as I think the effects on the NS7 are simply not that great from the start. My baseline for good effects is the Rane TTM57 running Serato Scratch Live. It's hard to mess up effects on SSL. Echo effects are easy to implement and pretty much always sound right with it. Can't say the same for the iTch and the NS7.

^ you aint lying.
The "delay - freeze" function in TP is very useful, as I'm sure echo-out is in SSL. We could benefit from it. Ok, well I guess there's no real GOOD way to do it currently in Itch. Was hoping i was just fucking it up.

So its not just me. I feel like echo is completely useless unless set to max and then its still weak or kinda works 50/50. The only effects I really use is trem. hpf lpf and delay
haze324
4:16 PM - 15 May, 2011
^ yep. And for me trem. is crap compared to Traktors gater. It never quite syncs to the beat perfectly until I have to "tap" it. Reverb works pretty good. I stick to delay, reverb, filters. That's enough to add some flavor to a set (for me). I never use echo for the same reasons. Just wish we had a good echo out.

I actually.get my delay effect.to.sound pretty good...i.also.have mines.set to 1/1 and.the wet and.dry to max....then when im.simply.echoing.out instead of pressing.play ...what.i do is move.the croosfader to.the other almost instantly...hope.this helps

on the vfx-1 i get a great echo out ... on anything else not so great --- AGAIN SERATO NEEDS TO ADD ALL THE PARAMETERS ON ALL THE ITCH CONTROLLERS :)

not a bad idea. gonna try that out.

@kraal what parameters do you set exactly to get a great echo out? Maybe if I switch up some parameters mine will improve as well

I don't own the NSFX, but last night I "echoed out" by short looping a down beat and fading it out, while mixing in the next track. Turned out ok, but it was the first time I tried it.

yeah that works :)

yep. when i had my VCI and no FX unit. That was my improvised echo out. Work great too to use the easter egg filter with it.

vfx-1 echo out is pretty good, but other controllers without all the parameters fail miserably at it.

I don't use the echo out live very often - but I did practice it with the NS7FX. Works pretty good for me - tho works a bit better in 1.7.1.
I go full wet/dry and do a 4/4. Begin scratching the one as soon as the first echo happens and drop it before the next echo.
...course - that isn't how people are use to doing it - but it does work.

Kaoss pad. Delay just isnt one of itchs fx strong points. I mainly leave the fx permanently on the filters or repeater. If I use the delay its only to work the fx fader for quick delay drum fills

Well, he said "It is something we want to bring to Itch soon", which is the same thing they said about Video. So, my guess is that it, along with improved fx, is possibly on the way

too much reading between the lines needed to interrupt that .... i put that in the catagory of i will see it when i see it.... even tho the twitch fader effects seem promising but itch is know for controller specific features

So what are you parameters for the VFX for Echo? I still can't get my VFX to sound anywhere near as good as my Pioneer DJM when it comes to echo or flang. Any pointer would be welcome.

Thank you, and no rush.
I thought you were going to get the NS6, what made you go for the Pioneer?
I also thought you'd wait a bit for all the kinks to be worked out.

Tried a few different ways and found moving the crossfader to give the best fading out effect without hearing the rumble of the echoing starting. Works pretty damn good.
An improvement would be a longer fade. Right now it sounds good if you already have your songs matched and then echo out on a word and then the next song comes in. It gives about 4 good beats of fading. If you are just swapping songs it's not strong enough to have a good impact effect for the new song. The fading out just isn't strong enough and the next song sounds forced.
Either way, doing the crossfader moves sounds pretty damn good. Gonna use it more often. Thanks.

LOL, ok I thought I was the only one doing this, but yea with the effects not being that great, I've have to manually do my own echo effects. I hear some DJ's saying that it's not about effects and what not, that people just need to hear good music to dance too etc, but in reality, those effects do add something to your mix, I mean we can just do the regular music blending and sync in the next song but hopefully Itch will come out with some more effects, especially for the Numark V7s

Stopped using my VFX-1 a few weeks in. It's pointless hauling it around for the 2 effects I find in any way useful which is HPF and LPF... I can use the EQ knobs instead so now it's a $300 paperweight.
FIX. UP.

add me to the loop + fader "echo out fx". depending on the type of echo i want i do 1 bar or half bar like cerla said.
Unfortunately most of ITCH FX are not great at all. On tracktor you hit the "Freeze button" and depending on your settings the trail goes on and on and on, feels cool though doing it manually, feels like starting fire with 2 rocks haha.

Agree too! If Virtual DJ had the same waveforms as Serato I'd still be using it as well ... I'll need to look at Traktor as well ...

Sorry for changing the subjects but any thoughts on the Behringer DDM4000 vs Pioneer DJM800? Besides the price, what about the #quality?
Just curious if anyone is using this with Serato Itch, Ive heard of other DJ's use it with Serato Scratch Live and seems to work fine if not better....
