hi ive been talking with zach about this problem and he suggested posting on here to get you guys involved
im currently using 2.1.1 for dj sets and 1.9.2 for video sets
for dj sets the trigger finger seems to work with midi fine
when i open video sl it works fine until i drag the output screen the the second screen and make it full screen then the midi is delayed
if i hit the pad 10 times it triggers around 5 times and delayed from when i hit the pads

Where are your maximum screen updates set to inside of the set-up / display tab?
In the set-up / library tab, try sliding the album art and font to the far left.

maximum updates are set to 60
and the silders to the left for art and font
i tried this in 1.9.2 and 2.2.2
its also now doing a thing where when i hit the pad it triggers 2 times like a flam drum thing and also delayed when in 2.2
in 1.9.2 it works good with the screen small just a slight delay but when i make it full screen theres a delay still

If you are crashing it's likely you have corrupt video files. have you analyzed all files and trashed the corrupts?

If so, is yours set to Higher Performance?

I'm pretty sure I checked this when you were here and you don't have this option.
Go into your Energy Saver settings.
If you have dual video cards you will see the "higher performance" setting at the top of this section.

Hey Mat,
Sorry for having to ask you this for the 100th time but can you list the exact specs of your machine and OS?
I'd like to try my first tests on the same machine if we have one here.
It might be helpful if you listed your graphics info.
Go to the apple, About this Mac, more info, click on Graphics/Displays, and post the info into this thread.

So far I have tested this on two machines here but haven't been able to reproduce the issue.
We do not have a computer here that is the same as yours. I'm going to see if Serato does and if so, I'll have them test it for us.

Hey mat the alien,
Hmm, seems like some sort of MIDI communication problem.
- First off, can you just make sure you are plugging your MIDI controller in directly to one of the USB ports rather than into a USB hub or splitter. Also, do you have any other devices plugged into your USB ports?
- Does this only occur with this particular MIDI controller? (I see you mentioned that you don't get this problem with the TTM57)
- Does the delay occur with any Scratch Live / MIDI functionality? i.e once you have made the Video-SL output full-screen, does the delay occur when you use MIDI with anything in Scratch Live, or is it only certain things? i.e Only Video-SL functions.
- Can I please get you to download 'Snoize' MIDI monitor from here : www.snoize.com (It's small and free)
Once it is installed plug in your hardware (first) then open the application. Basically this will show you what MIDI messages are being sent when you press a button on your MIDI controller. I want to see if MIDI messages are still being sent exactly the same when the Vidoe-SL ouput screen is fullscreen and when it's not. Hope that makes sense!
Sorry for the overload if info, but let me know if you have any questions about any of this :)

yeaah for a while i was having a problem with the computer screen freezing and the track would keep playing then after 30 seconds or so it would continue as normal
but the midi has always been delayed in the video sets
the trigger finger is going into the second usb and the delay happens in either usb port
thats the only one plugged in
it works fine for my dj set up
the cues trigger fine from the 57 and also when the video screen is small but when you make it full screen the delay starts
it seems like all the midi functions struggle , the cues are delayed and the knobs work then stop working
im just in maui ill try the snoize thing when i get home

Also, sorry if this has already been asked, but have you tried using another MIDI controller? Do you get the same results?

Hey mat,
The Snoize file only shows me what MIDI messages are being sent, but what I need to know is : when you are getting this problem with the delay (when you have Video-SL in full-screen mode), is the same MIDI message taking a long time to show up in Snoize? Is there a delay between when you press a button on your controller and when the MIDI message shows up in Snoize? Or is it always showing up instantly in Snoize? Hope that makes sense.
Basically I just want to see if there is a delay with Snoize from your controller in the same way there is a delay between your controller in Scratch Live.
Sorry, I should have made that more clear before :)
Let me know.

so snoize seems to be registering the notes as i hit them
the delay is wierd it skips some and just a slight delay compared to when just doing a dj set but bad enough to make it not too usable

Sorry mat I'm still a little confused. Can you confirm this for me :
When you get this problem with the delay in Scratch Live, if you switch to Snoize when this happens is there also a delay between when you press the button on your MIDI controller and when you see the message pop up in Snoize?

Okay so it seems your computer is receiving the MIDI messages fine even when there is the delay in Scratch Live.
- I wonder if this is CPU related. Can you please open the Video-SL setup screen and lower the 'Quality' to 'Low', turn off 'V-Sync', and 'Use Frame Blending'. Does this help?
- If the above doesn't help can you let me know what your computer's CPU % is? You can check this in 'Activity Monitor'.
- Also, I don't think you told me if this delay still occurs when you use other MIDI controllers? (not including the TTM57-SL).
Cheers :)

You can attach the crash log to this thread and I will take a look for you.
Did you manage to see what CPU percent your computer is at in Activity Monitor when you get the MIDI delay?
So you have only had this problem with these same two MIDI controllers. Are you able to try using another MIDI controller to see if it still happens? Also, you aren't using both of your trigger fingers at the same time are you?

Hey mat,
I have spoken to a couple of our guys regarding this and we seem to think it could be CPU related. To quote : 'This could be a general performance issue when processing MIDI input under heavy CPU load (the heavy load comes from Video-SL in fullscreen mode, but this leaves less CPU time free for Scratch Live and this could be where the delay in processing MIDI input messages comes from).'
Can you please let me know what your CPU% is when you get this delay? What % does it fluctuate around?
With regards to the crash - sorry for the delay. One of our developers took a look but the crash file was only one line which was a bit strange. Would you be able to upload another one, this will show you how : serato.com If you like you can send it to me via email : logan@serato.com

You might just need to recalibrate : serato.com (also make sure 'Hi-Fi resampler' is on in the Setup screen).
Is it the same videos that are crashing everytime? What format are they?
Has it crashed since you reconverted them?

hmm i usually have hi fi sampler off i think in older versions i might of had crashed when i had it on so left it off
i dont think it was the same file it ws after i converted them but it crashed before also
i used the serato handbrake mp.4 preset on here to convert the files
to get 2.2.2 to react to the slower record speed i had to move the The noise threshold slider a lot further left than i would with any other version
i havnt done a video set since the cut chemist show where it crashed so ill have to test it out for a bit and see how its looking but its normally after about a hourish

Hey Mat,
How has 2.2.2 been with Video-SL? Have you had any crashes? If so I think you should use version 1.9.2 when you do your Video-SL sets until version 2.3 comes out - which is not too far off.
Let me know how it's been and where we are at now with this :)

mat the alien,
Have you tried using another computer with your setup before and had it running smoother? A computer with higher specs probably would run better but I can't guarantee it. Have you tried 2.3.3?

no , but i have some friends who dont seem to have any problems.
Nick Thayer and Skratch Bastid
i always get Random Crashes with Video SL also
ive trouble shooted everything i could and just couldnt pinpoint anything to fix it
right now im using 2.3 for dj sets and everything works fine
and have been using 1.9.2 for video sets
the last few video sets i tried mix emergency and didnt get any crashes but ive been kind of holding off doing video sets until i can get it running smooth
ill test it out with 2.3.3

Okay let me know how you go with 2.3.3.
You might actually like to talk to Anthony, he's our Video-SL support specialist and might be able to help you out (more so than I can). If you like you can email him via support@serato.com and just give him a quick run down of your problem.
