The song continues to play but freezes the DN-HC5000...also, I had it that I was playing a corporate function and the ITCH program just froze...it contiued to play the song, but I had to switch to a CD for teh next song...then close down ITCH and reboot the laptop.....please please help...this is not good and not professional

Hey Thomas67,

Does this happen with every song you play with the DN-HC1000? On both decks?

This could be due to a couple of things. I will get you to try a few things to see if we can fix this :

1/. With your DN-HC5000 connected go to the ITCH setup screen and in the hardware tab click 'update firmware' - this will install the latest DN-HC5000 firmware if it is not already up-to-date.

2/. Make sure you are plugged directly into your computers USB port not a hub or splitter. Also ensure you are plugged into your computer's 'fastest' usb port and you have nothing else plugged in.

3/. Please disconnect your DN-HC5000 and click 'analyze files' in ITCH. This will build overviews / waveforms for your entire library (it may take a while depending on your library size). It will also identify any files that are corrupt - these can cause crashes and freezes like what you experienced. You will want to delete ALL these corrupt files from ITCH. The easiest way to do this is to sort your library by the status column (the left-most column). Clicking it will sort your library by this and group all the corrupt files together - these are indicated by a lightening bolt in this status column. Delete them all from your library.

4/. Please recreate your databasev2 file according to this article : www.serato.com
They can often become corrupt and cause freezes etc. Please note you will need to do this for your external drive as well if you are using one.

Let me know how you go :)

Okay you are more than welcome to try this however I don't think it will be that simple as it seems you may have two separate problems. You can also try version 1.5 if you like : www.serato.com

If this doesn't work let me know and we will continue on with my suggestions / questions above :)

I also noticed that when I close down ITCH on my computer......I get the little "busy" icon and it stays that way for approx. 2-3 minutes while ITCH attempts to CLOSE. Then I get the "PROGRAM IS NOT REPSONDING"...then I have to force the shutdown........any ideas whats going on here?
Thomas67 2:59 PM - 11 February, 2011
I did analyze all my files and found several "corrupted files" and did delete them from ITCH. I double checked to make sure they were all gone. I then closed down ITCH and restarted and checked for corrupted files a 3rd time...no corrupted files. I started working with the program, playing songs and sure enough.....the music was playing but the deck froze.....2:38, 2:37, 2:36.....FREEZE (approx 8-10 sec)..then jumps right back in at 2:26, 2:25 and so on......
Thomas67 3:27 PM - 11 February, 2011
I did recreate your databasev2 file according to the you listed as well as for my external drive. I haven't tried it out yet...but I will let you know how I make out

Hey Thomas67,

Did recreating both databasev2 files fix ANY of the problems you were experiencing?

Can you please update me on what issues you are still having.
Number them from 1 onwards so it is easier for me to keep track otherwise things will get messy and we won't be able to fix anything.

Hello;

Ok, here is what is going on...I did all the steps as you requested, that being steps 1 thru 4 in your discussion dated Feb 8. I started up my system and started playing songs and sure enough, the freezing started once again....2:23, 2:22, 2:21 ...."FREEZE"-6-10 seconds....then right back on 2:11, 2:10, 2:09 and so on. It seems analyzing the files and deleting the corrupted ones along with recreating my databaseV2 file did not help my current situation. I checked the firmware and it is currently up-to-date. Additionally, I am plugged directly into my computer's USB and not a hub. I have a huge birthday party to play next weekend so I started putting all the songs I am going to play on CD's so that I can at least use the dual CD decks....but really...my intention of using a LAPTOP along with an external drive and ITCH was to allow myself a greater library of music at the click of a mouse. Any other ideas/thoughts/comments? Thanks

Does this freeze still happen when your external hard drive is not connected to your computer?

Does this happen with ALL songs or just certain songs? What format? mp3s?

Does this happen on both decks or just one side?

And just to double-check : is the time-display freeze on the HC5000 hardware not the time-display in ITCH, correct?

Sorry for the repeated questions but I need as much info as I can get. I am trying to replicate this so i can find out what's going on. It's possible that it is a bug.

Thanks for your patience, I'm sure we will find out what is causing this soon.

Also, can you please let me know what your computer specs are? (www.serato.com)

I'm not sure how I would check to see if freezes still happen while the external hard drive i sNOT connected since all the music is coming from the external hard drive?

The songs at which point the Deck freezes is totally random...there are NO specific songs that cause the freeze ups.

As far as which deck it freezes on, its always BOTH decks that freeze...so the WHOLE unit FREEZES.

Yes, it is the time display on the HC5000 that freezes, not the time display in ITCH.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit operating system, 6.00GB RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M460 @ 2.53GHz
External Drive size is 1 terabyte connected via USB
Internal drive is 450GB of which 409GB is FREE

If you need anything else, please let me know

Thank you

Can you copy over 5-6 songs onto your desktop and then disconnect your external, now add these songs into ITCH. If you play these six songs from your desktop with ITCH do you still get the same freeze with the controller?

Sorry this is taking so long I am really scratching my head, I think i will get one of our developers/testers to look into this and see if they can shed some light for us.

Hello; Ok...well, here is the scoop. I tried loading 15 songs to my desktop with the external drive STILL connected first.......when I got to about the 4th or 5th song, the DN-HC5000's display froze for approx. 10 seconds on both desks. I then disconnected the external drive by removing the USB plug from the laptop and proceeded with the same test with the same 15 songs....approx 8-10 songs later, the DN-HC5000's display froze once again for approx. 10 seconds on boths decks (A & B). Well, thats where we are at.....I'm really hoping this can be resolved since I cannot use my deck with my laptop...I have to go through the task of placing all my music for a gig on CD's and using the CD player....PLEASE HELP!! Thank you. I appears I may need to purchase a new CONTROLLER and NEW SOFTWARE.

Hey Thomas67,

Would you be able to use your DN-HC5000 on another computer? Or alternatively use another DN-HC5000 with your computer? I just want to see whether or not the problem is with the actual controller or with your computer.

Let me know :)
Thomas67 9:12 AM - 23 March, 2011
I will try it with another computer laptop that I have.....unfortunately, I don't have another DN-HC5000 controller. I will get back to you yet again shortly......ugh

Hello; Are there any suggestion to "tweak" a laptop prior to installing and using Serato ITCH? Laptop information: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit operating system, 6.00GB RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M460 @ 2.53GHz
External Drive size is 1 terabyte connected via USB
Internal drive is 450GB of which 409GB is FREE

Thanks

Hey Thomas 67,

Yes we have a laptop optimization guide that shows you the tweaks we recommend you make : serato.com

Hello; Well, here I am once again. Let me update you on what I did...I completely reset my laptop to factory settings (System Restore). Of course once I did that, my computer automatically updated to the most current updates. Once completed, I did the optimization as stated at the above link. I then downloaded Serato 1.7 and it did the same thing. I uninstalled 1.7 and tried installing ITCH 1.5......and it did the same thing. Once again, I uninstalled 1.5 and tried installing 2.0 and got the same results...the DENON DN-HC5000 would lock up for exactly 10 seconds (both decks-you can't do a thing on the entire deck for the full 10 seconds)......I'm really at a point where I don't know what to do next??

Hey Thomas67,

That's so strange! I have just emailed one of the support members from Denon to ask him what he thinks about this so I'll let you know as soon as I hear back. In the mean-time can I just ask you :
- It is only the time display on the Denon unit that freezes the actual audio itself still plays fine when this happens, correct?
- Did you every end up trying it on another computer? Did it behave the same?
- If you copy of some music onto your internal drive and use this to play instead of using your external drive, does it still happen?
Thomas67 1:19 AM - 12 August, 2011
Hello;
Thank you for getting back to me. In regards to your first question, yes only the DENON unit freezes and the music continues to play with no interruptions...the song would FREEZE at, lets say 1:23 and then come back on-line at 1:13...and the amount of time the unit freezes is always the same.....10 seconds. The DENON unit will then be usable without any inssues and it may not happen again for 5 or 6 songs but then....it will happen again...FREEZES at 2:15, the song continues to play and then comes back on-line at 2:05..exactly 10 seconds later (locks-up for 10 seconds).
In regards to the seconds question, that is what I am going to try next. I am going to borrow a freinds laptop, download ITCH and then try it with a different laptop to see if it does it with his..I will let you know how I make out
I tried that a few steps back and got the same results....the UNIT was still locking-up and freezing for 10 seconds every few songs.....when it freezes, its random. it could be woroking fine for 10 songs then freeze up....then go 2-3 songs and then freeze up again. The length of time it freezes is CONSTANT and always the same...10 seconds!

Thanks...any info...please let me know

Hello; Not sure if you can help me or not but I wanted to find out what your thoughts are. My wife is currently looking at getting a laptop for her job so I figured perhaps I would give her the one I'm currently using for running ITCH and buy a NEW laptop....can you give recommendations as to what type of computer would work best with ITCH along with the specs in regards to (PC based no MACS) OPERATING SYSTEM, PROCESSOR i5/i7, MEMORY, VIDEO CARD, HARD DRIVE 5400 vs. 7200RMP, AUDIO CARD..etc...this way I can just build it and know that I have the proper specs to meet the demands of the ITCH software. Thanks

Hey Thomas,

I still haven't been able to reproduce this issue but I have actually logged it as a bug so that it can be looked at. I am going to leave the Denon HC5000 running today and see if I can reproduce it again.'
The Denon guys hadn't heard of this happening either.

With regards to your question about the laptop, the only thing we recommend is that the computer is above the minimum requirements. The specific minimum requirements for the Denon HC5000 can be found here : serato.com

Bare in mind these are the minimum so you want to be as much above that as you can to optimize performance. One thing to make sure you don't get is an AMD processor, ITCH does not support these due to the problems they have streaming USB audio. Apart from that anything above those minimum specs should be fine. I recommend you check out our laptop buying guide : serato.com

Also, maybe try your HC5000 with another computer before you purchase one. I'm still not sure whether this is a bug with ITCH or some strange problem specific to your setup. But like I said I have logged it and we will check it out :)

Hello; I wanted to ask about using ITCH with an IPAD3....can this be done? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, any recommendation as to the best laptop to use along with any modifications that need to be be done to the computer settings to make ITCH run best! Thanks
R-A-C 1:22 PM - 25 March, 2012
i don't know about ipads but as far as the settings for a good performance goes there're 2 articles available:
mac: serato.com
windows: serato.com
and a laptop giude: serato.com

additionally in general it's a good idea to turn off as much as possible and keep the load low however possible otherwise

Has anyone figured this out? I had a similar thread as my Denon unit would randomly lock up on 2 different Macbook Pro laptops. This is sad because I really like ITCH, but I refuse to use it with this bug still unresolved. :(
