There has been some discussion about the wobbling wave forms. From what I've gathered it's been said to be a problem with the MCP79 chip in the Macbook pro's. But I recently read a thread where someone used Itch on a Macbook pro with the same chip but running windows and the waveforms were solid. I'm no computer tech but how is it the chip if it works fine with windows? Isn't it a problem with the OS and ITCH?
Also, is it possible that 10.6.5 helps this situation?
Could the Class action Suit against NVIDIA and the faulty chips have anything to do with the wobbling wave forms?
I have asked most of these questions before but have never gotten a response from the Serato team. If you guys have any impute it would be much appreciated.

I'm sure they don't even really know, but with all the different types of chipsets and GPU's out there, you can't cover every single situation. I have an i7 930 and a 9500GTX card, and the wavesforms still suck. While the 9800 isn't the latest and greatest, ITCH doesn't seem to need the top end GPU to run, I think they need to look closer at their GPU offload functions to correct the problem......IMO

But is it strange for them to blame it on the chip when with the exact same chip and same computer but running Windows instead of OSX there were no wave form problems?

Who else they gonna blame? Unless there is some factual data for them to support that, I find it hard to believe since most of these level of graphics cards clearly support today modern games which are FAR more demanding that thing that ITCH can throw at it.
They need to find a way to utilized the GPU api's either better or through a less pipeline restricted method.
But that would require a huge fundamental change in their code base, and I don't think that is going to happen.
Smooth waveforms would be spectacular..........

Hi guys,
Kittmaster is right... its a very difficult issue to fix simply because of the vast amount of chipset/os/graphics combinations out there.
Zuck: I assume you have checked your ITCH settings for "maximum screen updates per second"?
If you are running Mac OS 10.6.4 please make sure you have this graphics update installed: support.apple.com and have you tried updating to ITCH 1.7 to see if the issue remains?

Thanks for your response ChristianD.
I can't imagine how difficult it is for you guys to figure this stuff out. What's confusing to me is there are several posts form you guys on this subject where your team blames the MCP79 chip. But when I read the post from people trying it out on Macs with that chip and they run windows their wave forms are smooth. So again, how is it the chip? I have asked this question on a few occasions and never gotten a response from your team. Even now, you haven't answered my question, just asked if I've done the basics.
Yes, I've done everything you have suggested and nothing has changed. The waveforms are the same weather I am running in power saver mode or graphics enhancing mode. The wabbles are worse with the DX. I have not yet tried the latest OS update, 10.6.5, I always wait a bit before using a new OS.
BTW, I'm not bagging on you for giving me the basic things to try, I know that's what you guys have to do, and thank you. But it would be nice to get a straight answer on this situation.

Yes - im sure you appreciate we have to deal with people with all levels of technical ability on here!
As far as the low level details of how ITCH handles its graphics, I'm afraid I can't really help much more as I work here at Vestax and we only make the hardware.... I will flag this up for one of the Serato team to give you a better answer

Nope. I'm still reading that people are having dropouts with 10.6.5.
If 1.5 does not have dropouts running 10.6.4 but 1.6, 1.7, 1.7.1 does why would changing to 10.6.5 help?
I 1.5 has no dropouts running 10.6.4 then I feel like 1.7+ shouldn't either, without me changing anything. Is that so crazy to think?

Not crazy. But we're trying to pinpoint why some users (ie. you guys) are having this, yet others aren't. So having full information will help us with this issue.

First off Matt-C, that last post was a mistake. For some reason I thought I was commenting on a thread about the dropouts, sorry.
I have had the wobbling waveforms even with ITCH 1.5. My big question is how can people run windows on a mac and not have wobbling wave forms then run OSX and have wobbling wave forms and you guys still say the cause is the NVIDIA card? How is it not the way ITCH is working with the OSX? No one has answered that question yet.
I have not tried the new 10.6.5. It does have a graphics update in it so it may work. I posted a thread asking if anyone has had the wave form problem solved by using the new 10.6.5 but I have had no response back. I'll give it a shot in a few weeks and see if it helps.
By the way, here's everything I've tried so far. Manley it was to try and alleviate the dropouts not the waveform problem but it hasn't helped with either. Thanks again for your help!
Macbook Pro
10.6.4
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
500GB 7200RPM Hitachi internal HD
I use Disk Warrior to defrag my computer.
I run Disk Repair and Repair permissions every time I load a new program and every few weeks just incase.
I have no corrupted files.
I don't use any file sharing music.
I have 5 different USB cables I have tried, even gold plated pro cables.
I always follow the Serato setup steps (no wifi, bluetooth, time machine, screen saver, power saver features off).
I have all my equipment connected before I turn on my computer.
I have no programs running in the background.
I have close to 200GB of free space on my HD
I have tried un-installling and reinstalling ITCH
I have tried both USB ports (I use the one furthest from the screen for best results).
I have tried multiple settings for screen refresh rates and buffer settings.

I've never said this issue was any video cards, this is a theory that I don't hold with myself and I'd be wary of trying to blame something such as a card.
The waveforms are drawn real time, so this requires your computer to do a lot of real time work. Sometimes for some users they will experience 'wobbly' waveforms when this process is lower down the task tree. This could be your system shunting the gui thread down the list, especially as Scratch Live and ITCH purposely prioritize the audio threads than the gui elements (better to have sound, than computers dropping audio just to compute elements to look at).
I am assuming that OS X is doing something strange that Windows does, but as I'm not a programmer I couldn't say I'm sorry.
We are still looking into this issue however. For now, I'd suggest that you upgrade to 10.6.5 as Apple have done some fixes with graphics, this may help, but it helps us to isolate the issue more too.
Cheers.

Sorry Matt-C, I never ment to put blame on you spicifically, sorry bout that. I was commenting on what some people on the Serato team had stated in other threads.
I appreciate your reply greatly and I will try the OS update in hopes that it will help.
Cheers!

If it doesn't help, this helps us narrow down the issues. We are wanting to get this resolved just as much as the users who are experiencing it.
Cheers for your patience and help :D
