When my ITCH software is running on my PC and disconnected from the DN HC5000, I periodically loose access to loading files from my PC directory into my crates. When I reboot I then regain access. How do I resolve this problem?

Hi Carl.
Are you using an external hard drive at all?
Can you please let me know your computer specs (make, model, CPU, RAM, hard drive, any other USB devices you use).
Cheers.

I am not using an external hard drive. My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A8, 180GB hdd, Intel core duo pro T2400-1.83GHz with 2GB RAM. Also, there are no other USB devices in use.
Thanks Matt

OK.
Are you using the Files panel in ITCH to move tracks from your harddrive folders or are you opening a folder window and dragging directly?
Does this happen to all your harddrive music/folders, or just some? If some, what ones?
When you have difficulty importing files to ITCH, have you done anything at all apart from launch ITCH? ie. gone online, played a game, watched a movie etc.
Cheers.

I have been using the files panel in ITCH to bring files into my crates.
This happens only on the HDD of my laptop, at no time have I ever used an external drive in conjunction with ITCH.
I may have gone online to retrieve emails from my sympatico account or executed other programs, definitely not movies or online games.
Actually this happened only after going from version 1.2 to 1.5.
The exact senario is, leaving the files panel open when I run/execute other programs like My Computer or Windows Explorer, Sound Forge, when I return to the ITCH files panel I am unable to access files in the current folder prior to exiting.

If you use no other software before running or during ITCH do you get these problems?

Can you please do a test.
Start the computer from scratch.
Load one program other than ITCH.
Close this down.
Load up ITCH.
Do this for your most common programs one by one. Test to see if it's only one program that is being problematic - this will hopefully pinpoint one program and we can go from there...

I was unable to replay the problem when I launched various frequently used programs in conjunction with ITCH per your suggestion. However, I was able to pinpoint the the one event that causes the problem. When I connect an external drive while ITCH is running, I loose access to the files system. When I reboot ITCH, access to the files sys. works OK.

OK. So an external drive...
Do you always properly dismount/eject the external drive?
How old is the drive?
How full is the drive?
Have you ever bumped the drive (even gently)?
Do you always wait a minute or so before moving the drive after it's been ejected?
Is the external drive powered or USB powered?

Yes, I always dismount correctly.
The drive is approx 4yrs.
75% capacity.
Never.
I usually wait approx. 5min.
The external drive is USB powered.

4 years for a drive is a very long time.
If the problem occurs when you have the external drive connected, it may be damaged/corrupted.
Do you have any other drives/usb drives you could test out to see if the same thing happens instead of this 4year old drive?
