Hi, when I right click on the buttons in the hardware screen it does not give me an option of customizing the joystick or buttons. Can yo help?

You can 't customize all of the groups. People usually use group 1 and 2 to customize there settings. Which group are you trying to customize?

On a MAC, hold don ctrl and click on the white lettering above the button you want to customize.
