I'm using: Alienware M17X
Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate
2.4 core 2 duo
6gb ram
2 gb video ram (Dual Nvidia 9400)
Serato 1.9.2 TTM57SL + Video
Let me start off by saying I'm pretty good with computers and have been using and selling serato for over 4 yrs so I would concider myself a pro at using Serato. O.K. with that said sometimes it works in Windows 7, sometimes it doesn't. I'm almost sure it's a 64bit problem with the driver. When I load up Serato sometimes it doesn't notice that I have the 57 plugged in. I have tried opening Serato with the 57 plugged in and by pluggin in the 57 after the software has loaded. I have tried everything from operating in "xp mode", shutting off wireless and the light up keyboard, also disabling and unistalling any gaggets or pluggings not needed by running Windows 7 "GodMode". When this happens I also experience a total freeze up as Serato doesn't want to respond to closing and usually results in a C.A.D. to close down. I have also experienced some glitchy playback of video, not audio. I'm not sure what causes the glitchy play back (not video file) it will play fine if I do instant doubles when it happens could be because of the harddrive itself (conected ESATA)..... I know you guys are currently working on this issue with 7 hopefully your working on the 64bit as well. I'm posting this cause the help forum said "Any help from us would be greatly appreciated"..

Sounds like manually installing the drivers might help. First connect the TTM57 directly to the computer.
Start
My Computer
Local Disk C:
Program Files x86
Serato
Driver_updater64 - Double click that and let it run.

OK... I got it to freeze up again..... and before I get into how after some research, I found that in Windows 7 if Serato/Windows crashes than it is very difficult to get Windows 7 to recognize your interface again. Also after going through the normal motions (re-installing drivers, re-installing Serato, re-boot, unplug this, plug in that, etc...) the only fix I found is to shut the laptop off for a couple of hours than power up and everything is in working order (I found this on a couple of machines running 7 64bit)....hmmmm.....clueless.... Meanwhile, the reasom it froze. I continued to run the laptop in mid transition (grid simple) with an fx on each vid in auto mode. In about an hour they had caughtup to the same video with in a couple of seconds. Each deck tried to load the same video with in a couple seconds apart. Serato/Windows froze up in a heart beat had to C.A.D. to restart. After that I "went through the motions" to try to re-boot serato. No luck after 45min of rigorouse thought. So I left everything plugged in and went to the bar to party (no lie). I came home hit power and everything worked...wtf...am I a retard or does this totally sound like a windows 7 64 bit driver issue....not sure just reporting my findings

That is a bit odd. Is your computer getting hot? Is a fan not working proper?

5:45 PM - 22 March, 2010
Nope laptop doesn't even come close to warm...and all the fans are working proper... Thats the first thing I thought.. I mean the only thing letting it sit will do is allow it to cool down so I checked everything. Not sure

Do other programs have the same shut down issues after a certain time?
Does only Scratch Live go unresponsive?
Can you do other things on the computer?
Have you set the internal HD to "never" go to sleep?

Yes I can do other things on the computer. The only other thing that goes unresponsive is the window for managing sound devices, under control panal. When I go there to try to manage audio devices nothing at all shows up in the box (blank) and the pointer constantly thinks when in that box.

Now in one section of the power settings the HD was set not to shut off but in the advance settings it was set to shut off 20 min on battery and I forget what it was set at for plug... but I changed both to never in advanced... time for more testing

ry this
Dell / Alienware seem to have this in the system bios
go to advanced
go down to USB powershare and disable it.
It stopped the dropouts for me and a couple of my friends with dell laptops.
Hope it works for you.

Yea that has been turned off through this whole test period for me.
I did manage to get it to freeze again after making the newest adjustments. So I'm leaving everything the same and trying to run Serato in Windows 7 's "XP Compatibility mode" it has seemed to run the most stable in this mode even though it uses about 3-4% more of the processor and 2.68gb of ram (compared to 1.68gb of ram in just windows 7 mode). For some reason I get less freeze ups in xp mode even though it uses more power. Still testing

Alright I was doing a little more reading on the forum today.... specially some fixes in video 1.2.... looks like newer version of Quicktime are making video crash (not sure what type of crash) something also with loading 2 songs very quickly (very similiar in what I was experiencing) , so I followed through with the recomended codec installations, and reverted back to Quicktime 7.6.2 (I may have been running this version but I'm sure now), upon running the first video windows asked "do you wanted to run the FFDSHOW codec" and I chose "yes". Still running in "XP Compatibility Mode" and using video 1.2 release candidate 1.
Differences I do see.... In task manager, instead of both processors running at an average of 75% and 2.68gb of ram. The processor runs about 85% and the other runs at around 60-65% with 2.12gb of ram, still averaging an over all usage of 75%. When I load a new song into the deck while another one is playing (the most intense thing you can do on the processor) instead of both processors spiking to around 89-99% the less working processor takes the blunt of the force. Still combining into a 96% over all usage. Not sure if this is more stable or not.... again still testing...
I hope this info is usefull...lol.... Correct me if I'm wrong but I now think I'm experiencing multiple issues and thats why we cant narrow it down. One of which is drivers for Windows 7 64bit platform (might be actually solved in XP mode), and second being an issue or 2 with the video and newer codecs(which might be fixed with todays findings).

good info here. Might be beneficial to start a thread with all of your findings in the 1.2 beta section too.

Ok crashed again about third song in....might have been a quick load that caused it.... On close down and reboot it did however recognize with a quickness, this has never happened. Before it would take at least an hour for it to recognize the 57 again.
And hows come I cant get my video plugin authorized on my other pc? I type in my SN number but the authorize button doesnt activate...almost like I didn't have enough numbers/letters typed in? would like to test it on my xp machine as well. Its a brand new copy I wouldnt think it would be blacklisted.

never mind on the authorizing problem... user error lol...... so far after that major crash everything is running smooth..."fingers crossed".... The desktop isnt having it either not sure whats going on with that. All four processors run at 95% and when it finally crashed the reboot screen popped up a error message that stated "CPU is over temp level"...hahaha...again not too worried about that main issue is this darn windows 7 issue laptop

Ok I used Serato on windows 7 all night last Saturday at my gig with no issues (audio only), gonna try it again tonight.
Video wise, I did do a full hour the other night without any major issues. (you can see the recording @ www.rsdj3.com) I did have video tweek out on me in the middle of the set, so I instant doubled it to the other deck and it played fine. If you watch the mix its at the begining of a "Right Round Transition" goinging from the original to Flo Rida's vesion. You should be able to see the video freaking out after I make the mix and before I make the switch to the instant double. Still unsure what causes that, it might have something to do with quickly loading in songs after the mix is complete and the other track is still playing. Yesterday, about 6 or 7 mixes in, Serato did freeze on my again. I had to C.A.D. to get it to shut down. I powered down the laptop and rebooted Serato and it worked nice and smooth the rest of the night. I'm still running it in XP mode and stopped using the video beta...., However I still have all the codecs installed that were recomended in the beta forum. Now I'm gonna check that quicktime is still 6.7 or later. If not gonna revert back to an earlier form of quicktime and put it through a bunch more testing....

Ok here is where i think I have narrowed it down...at least this is what has been happening the last 2 weeks...
It seems after I do a session of mixing (usually 1hour) if I close out of serato, but not shut off the laptop or unplug the serato usb, then come back and booting serato back up for another session I get the crash and non recognizing of the hardware.
However if I unplug the the hardware AFTER I close down serato. Shut down the laptop. Power back on the laptop and load up serato, then plug in the hardware usb. Then everything is rocognized.
I also have to say.... that when I load serato up and click the video button. The video monitoring screen pops up on the mainscreen for a couple of seconds then shoots to the 2nd display and the video bar shrinks back up. I have to click the video button 2 more times (not double click) to bring the video plugin bar back up so I can click the full screen button. Is this normal? This had been happening through out the testing period so I had thought this was normal to get to view your video control screens and to activate the video output.

Yes, you don't want to put your computer to sleep and then open it to run Scratch Live. That is something we are aware of.
That is something that we have here with our Vista machine. I haven't tried it much on the windows 7 machine here. Hasn't been an issue on my mac. I'm not aware of a solution for this. The work around of clicking the tab again, fortunately is easy and works consistantly.

well here is the story...lol ...sorry been away booked like crazy..... but any way the audio works flawless so far no problems....but video... I absolutely have to run in xp mode no exception and do not manually install the 64 bit driver.... this causes a huge crash in windows to where windows will not boot up and it makes you go to a restore point it doesn't happen every time or just seems to do it when ever (I know there is a logical reason for this). If you do not have a restore point, then have fun on a sunday evening (this has happened twice). I thought for this whole discussion and figured that the factory had loaded in the wrong video driver. From the factory it had the 9400m driver when it should have the gtx260 driver or in some cases the gtx280. I installetd the correct driver and still no luck. However when it works (in xp mode) it works flawless I've gotten away with an 8hr gig and a 4hr gig (video wise) with windows7 64bit.
So these are the action I take to make sure it works proper... 1. plug in all hardrives and midi controllers and video displays, 2. Power on laptop and let fully boot up. 3. Shut off wifi adaptor, 4. boot up Serato, 5. Plug in TTM7SL and listen for two connection tones from windows (if only one is heard then it will freeze on any further action), 6. Open video plug in Serato (small screen opens sits for 5 seconds then shoots to external display) , 7. Clck video again and i flashes the video display screen then goes back, then I click video again then it finally stays open. 8. Click fullscreen
