I want to know if i should invest my hard earned..and long saved..$1,400 on this macbook pro with these specs. I already have the ttm 57sl and video plug-in. Will/should it run smoothly on this comp??! I already did a gig on an underperforming PC and don't want that mess to happen again. Thanks in advance for your help.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with dual-link DVI support; 256MB of GDDR3 memory-

---The Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 15-Inch (Early 2008/Penryn)

features a 45 nm "Penryn" 2.4 GHz "Core 2 Duo" processor (T8300), with two independent processor "cores", a 3 MB shared "on chip" level 2 cache, an 800 MHz frontside bus, 2.0 GB of 667 MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM, a 200 GB (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology, and an 8X dual-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive. It also includes a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and dual-link DVI functionality, and an antiglare LED-backlit 15.4" widescreen 1440x900 active-matrix display (a glossy display was available via build-to-order).

Internally, however, the "Early 2008/Penryn" models use modestly faster and more energy-efficient 45 nm "Penryn" processors -- compared to 65 nm "Merom" processors in the "Mid-2007 Santa Rosa" series -- larger 6 MB level 2 caches (on the 2.5 GHz and faster models, compared to 4 MB caches on their predecessors, albeit the 2.4 GHz model has a 3 MB cache), more video memory (256 MB or 512 MB, compared to 128 MB or 256 MB), and larger stock hard drives. ---

-Thanks again-

Any chance of you being able to spend $300.00 more for this one?

any chance of you applying for the apple visa card for me so i can pay it off in 12months with no interest?! lol Would def rather have the one u mentioned but $1400 is even a lil too much for me right now but i'm working with what i can...rather pay it off...but failed business venture equals shitty credit for me..

I wouldn't buy anything with the 8600-series graphic processors due to them having an abnormally high failure rate.

Note that their "out of warranty repair" deal only extends three years after the original purchase.

Well that was my nice way of saying that you should not buy that system.

As the article points out (nice work guys) there are some known issues with the video card. Aside from that the computer looks good. It might be worth replacing the card or trying to get Apple to do that for you.
VJ Justin Allen 4:19 PM - 17 March, 2010
You cannot replace that card with another type...and even if Apple does replace that specific card, they just replace it with the same one...and that can fail as well.
