Windows cannot find the problem. I updated the hardware driver and it seems to be "working properly". I tried repairing and then also reinstalling the software, to no avail.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Kody

Hi kody,

Is this happening when you open Scratch Live? Does it happen everytime? Is your music on an internal or external hard drive?
kody 6:11 PM 15 March 2010
Hi Michael,

yes, it happens every time I try to start. I do not think the location of my music is relevant. I have used music from internal as well as external harddrives in the past. Currently, if it worked, I suppose my intent would be to do the same. I have even reinstalled the software from this website, the most up to date, and I get the same error.

Thanks,
Kody

Hey kody,

The location of your music is quite important - if it's a crate or a database file causing the crash then we need to know whether it's on your internal or external drive.

First off, can I please get you to try this:

1) Ensure Scratch Live is closed.
2) Open Windows Explorer and go to the ~/Music/ScratchLIVE folder.
3) In there you will see a folder called History, rename this to something else (e.g. old_History).
4) Re-open Scratch Live, does it start now?

Ho Michael,

thank you for the suggestion. The History folder does not exist. Not sure if this is because I re-installed (as mentioned in the previous email), or just because I have not done much serious mixing since I got the new laptop.

More suggestions are welcomed, although I am seriously considering reinstalling windows from the beginning. It caused some application error at a specific location, which in turn occurred for my WLAN wireless tray icon and WLAN wireless card (which are not even active), and WerFault.exe was running continuously in the background using my whole CPU until I ran system diagnostics. Still there is the problem with WLAN, but not WerFault. I am not 100% sure this cascade was _caused_ per se by Scratch Live. I just know the error occurred first when I tried to open Scratch Live. Maybe this helps your diagnosis?

Many thanks in advance for any further suggestions! This is a nice help-site!

Cheers,
Kody

Hi kody,

The History folder should be created when you play a track, so there should be one there unless you've not played anything?

I'm not sure if the other faults are related, but a crash dump would be useful to find the cause. Please take a look at this article which explains how to get a crash dump -> www.serato.com (click link). Once you have one, please attach it to this thread :)

Also do you have your external hard drive connected when you start Scratch Live? If you do, try disconnecting it and opening Scratch Live - does it still crash?

Hi Michael,

I'm a little confused about why you are fixated on the History folder. There is a 99.99% chance that I played a track before the issue occurred. In between I unhooked everything and moved. BUT, LET ME ITERATE THIS IMPORTANT FACT - I UNINSTALLED SCRATCHLIVE AND THEN REINSTALLED IN THE HOPE THAT THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM - DO YOU THINK THIS MAY BE ASSOCIATED TO THE ABSENCE OF A HISTORY FILE? SINCE IT HAS NOT WORKED SUBSEQUENT TO THE REINSTALL??

Another useful clue - I was able to install ScratchLive successfully and use it on another partition on the same computer (it is dual boot with Windows Vista on both partitions). So, it is not any hardware. The application failure is a software issue, and moreover, one that occurs now whenever I boot, i.e. the above application failure occurs now with reference to the WLAN card upon startup.

I will try to recover a crash dump, although the above details I pasted into the first message seem to be quite complete to me.

It still crashes, yes.

Thanks again, Mike, crashdump to follow,
Kody

Here is the dumpster. Hope we can solve this! Thanks again, cheers, K

P.S. - I have 3 external hard-drives, all of which may have been associated with Scratch Live at one time or another. None is connected now. There is a chance that I have not played any tracks on this (new) computer, maybe a little more like 10% rather than .01% :-) ....

Hey kody,

I'm interested in the History folder as it is often the main cause of Scratch Live crashing on start up :)

Also, when you un-installed Scratch Live did you remove just the application or the ScratchLIVE folder too?

The fact that you're able to use Scratch Live using another partition makes me think that something in your Scratch Live folder is causing the crash. Can you please zip up the ScratchLIVE folder (found in the Music folder) on the partition you have this problem with and attach it to this thread. Thanks.

kody attached a file: ScratchLIVE.rar

Hey Michael, OK, fair enough about the folder. I think it really is the default installed folder (at least at this point)... but, here it is.

Also, I believe the original time I got the error, the hardware was not plugged in. And, in fact, I seem to recall a similar error in the past when the hardware has been not plugged in. Of course, now it persists, happens on startup, etc....

No info from the dump, eh?

Thanks.

Hey Kody,

Unfortunately the crash dump didn't shed any light on the issue :(

The ScratchLIVE folder you uploaded has no file information in it, is this from your internal or external hard drive?
kody 9:22 AM 23 March 2010
The external drive is not connected to the computer

As far as I can tell, you're trying to give me a simple brainless quick-fix and it isn't working, hence you keep coming back to the same silly thing. Complete with emoticons. Nice :-D

OK, thanks for giving it a valiant effort. I will face the music a reinstall windows.

Sorry you feel that way. Please let me know if you still require assistance.
