crackling sound while playing a song.

Hi. When i play a song there is a crackling sound while the song is playing. I have another laptop that is XP and that sounds fine (however the XP laptop is unreliable, hence why im using a different laptop.)
The spec for the windows 7 laptop is:

CPU- AMD Anthlon 64 X2 dual-core processor
RAM- 4GB
HDD- 320 GB
