I'm sure many of us DJs here on these forums have at one time or another lost or accidentally erased or deleted folders or crates on ScratcLive. For everyone to get it straight can you PLEASE explain where the Program, Backup, Crates and Subcrates should be in the proper places. Whether using external or internal drives. Where should everything correctly be placed from the root folder and so on............I have many duplicate folders in mutiple places and want to combine them all so I can clean up everything and THEN delete things I don't need properly with getting rid of something I need. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hello emixxin,

Scratch Live stores information in two places.
The actual program is stored in the Applications folder (Mac) or a Serato folder located in the Program Files folder (PC).
The rest of SSL's info is stored in the ScratchLIVE folder located in your Music folder on the internal drive, if you've imported music from the internal drive.
The only thing you need to be concerned with is backing up your actual music files and the ScratchLIVE folder.

If your importing music from an external drive or partition SSL's info, for files coming from that drive, will be stored in a _ScratchLIVE_ folder on the root of the external/partition.
You would also want to backup this folder.

Hope that helps;)

There are two ScratchLIVE folders, the primary one is on your internal drive, and the secondary one on your external drive.

The one on the internal drive is located in your Music folder

Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/<your name>/Music/ScratchLIVE

The one on the external drive is on the root level of the external drive

Volumes/<external drive>/_ScratchLIVE_

You need both folders. If you store all your music on the external drive, then the crates are stored in the external drive's _ScratchLIVE_ folder, however, you still need the internal drive's ScratchLIVE folder as well.

Thanks Konix......good lookng out

One last question for you....if I combine the other folders with the root folders...will old stuff that I may have or or misplaced (crates...etc) pop up....I just want everything to be in the one correct spot where I can organize it correctly

Know that your crate files (which are the only files you need from either folder) are stored in the Subcrates folder (regardless of them being subcrates or not).
SSL will only read crate files that are in the Subcrates folder either in the _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external or the ScratchLIVE folder on your internal.
If your wanting to see all of your crate files in SSL you only need to add crate files from one Subcrates folder into the other (depending on where you want to store all of your music).

If your wanting all of your music read from your external then you'll want to copy the crate files that are stored in the Subcrates folder in the ScratchLIVE folder on your internal drive to the Subcrates folder inside the _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external drive.

Before you copy the crates files over, make sure they don't have the same name as the crate files that are already in the Subcrates folder on the external.
If they do, and you copy the files from your internal drive into that folder, it will ask if you want to replace them or won't allow you to move them.
You won't want to replace them because that would delete the current crate file stored in that location.
So... you'll need to rename the internal crate files prior to moving them into the Subcrates folder on the external.
I would suggest adding an _ or a + sign to the front of the files.

Once everything is moved/copied into the Subcrates folder on the external you will then want to rename the ScratchLIVE folder on the internal drive so it reads "ScratchLIVE1" or something other than its original name.
This will ensure that SSL won't read any information coming from that internal folder.

Now when you open up SSL with your external plugged in the crate information you see will be coming from the external drive.

At this point you can combine any same named crates and delete the duplicates.
For instance... you have a HIP HOP crate and a _HIP HOP crate.
Copy the files from the _HIP HOP crate and drag/drop them into the HIP HOP crate.
Once the files are copied over you can delete the _HIP HOP crate by highlighting it and holding down ctrl + shift + delete (this will delete the crate entirely from your hard drive and SSL).

That should do the trick!
