Screen Feezing

Product Scratch Live Hardware Rane SL 1 Computer PC

I am currently using a Toshiba satellite notebook with 2 gigs of ram and a Pentium dual-core processor. Everytime i go to load a song my screen freezes for like 5 seconds. The music doesn't stop playing on the deck that was already loaded but the screen and all functions can't be used until the screen unfreezes. Im not getting a USB drop out and I have already changed the buffer setting to as high as it will go, so i know this cant be the issue. I even set the visual cache pretty low. Is there anything else that I havent done that I should try and adjust?

What is the processor speed of the computer?

Are you using an external HD?

Have you analyzed all of the files in the library?

Try moving your Maximum Screen Updates back to 60.

Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s) ......straight from system information

I'm using a Western Digital external hardrive

all the files have been analyzed

and i even tried moving the screen updates back to 60 but i get the same result

-thanks for the help

The processor is right at the minimum specs. At times, results like these will pop up when specs are around the base of what we require.

I would be curious if you get the same lag reading songs from the internal HD instead of from the external.

How much free space do you have on the external?

Have you defragged the external lately?

i havent tried putting anything on my internal hardive before....i would expect the same thing though?

i have 97 gb of like 400 used up so that shouldn't be the issue, but i havent run a defrag on the external drive in a while, so im doing that now. hopefully that will help do the trick
Chad S. 9:55 PM 11 March 2010
cool lets see how the defrag goes first.
spiker6750 7:19 PM 13 March 2010
well i had the same problem after the defrag....i guess its time for a new computer, i need one anyway. lol

Im not looking to spend anymore than like 6 maybe 7 hundred. Is there any specific model that i should look into? Another thing i noticed is that windows 7 doesnt seem to be supported yet, should i look for laptop with an older operating system?

-thanks for the help

Look for a used or refurbished MAC. You can find one in the range you are looking to spend. It doesn't need to be a macbook pro or the latest year, mine is a few years old and runs swell.

If going PC, stay away from AMD processors and for the moment i3 / i5 / i7 processors. Windows 7 works well with audio Scratch Live but is having some problems with Video SL. Thats why it hasn't been officially supported yet.
spiker6750 1:27 AM 16 March 2010
will the i3/i5/i7 processors eventually be supported?
Chad S. 3:19 PM 16 March 2010
It all depends on what obstacles we might find. That is a very hard question to answer. Our goal is to support everything but sometimes factors fall outside of our control.

hey chad,

i know that windows 7 is now supported with 2.0 but are the new i chips working well/supported with 2.0 too?...cause i heard lots of people were having problems with 1.9.2 and the i chips. thanks for the help!
Chad S. 7:56 PM 13 April 2010
Nothing has changeed in regards to the chips as far as I am aware.
