I have one small issue that im sure can be resolved, and I already know what I need to do.

The CDJ-1000 MK3's hot loops and cues are not working at all, I can only use them if im doing it through serato itself. I read that the cdj needs to be in ABS mode and that in the hardware tab, the setting should be set to LINE and not PHONE(Default).

Thats all fine and it starts working then, but when I switch it to line, my technics turntable sounds like its possessed by the devil, a horrible sound when they music is playing.

What do I do to make both sound good?! Thanks.

Hi DJ Seta.

You can't use a turntable and a CD player together when using an SL 1.
You can only use 2 turntables or 2 CD players.

There is significant difference in the audio output of both devices.

The only way around your issue is to get a Phono pre-amp, which the turntable will plug into, and then run the output of that into the SL 1 input and run both inputs as LINE inputs in Scratch Live.

Thanks for the quick reply! That does make sense.

I actually did find a way to use both and being able to record mixes just fine and have normal playback, the only problem was that I couldnt use the CDJ loop/cue functions, which was my main issue. but I just compensated with seratos functions.

I had the hardware tab set to phono, turntable was connected through line1 to line1, cdj was connected through line2 to line 2, and I had the cdj playing in relative mode.

Worked just fine. Is that weird?

Not entirely weird, but certainly a lucky coincidence.

If you had the CDJ into a line input, then you should be able to use the CDJ cues and looping in Absolute mode....

DJFUNKMIKE,

No matter what mixer you are using, as long as its hooked up in LINE, it should work. I did have that same issue with the tracking bar being red the entire time even when not scratching. Also, if you look at the tracking in the setup tab, The technics will have a nice circle and the cdj with have a square box around the border.. which is kind of weird.

However, the playback and everything seems to be fine and working correctly. I don't know if in the future it will cause an issue or not, so don't quote me on that.

What I actually did is just use the 1 CDJ and use the INPUT REVERSE button in serato to switch the song to the other channel so that I can continue to use the same CDJ for mixing, while still being able to mix with both channels.

I find this method better because a CDJ's beatmatching is all digital, hence more accurate and stable. The Technics runs on a motor which in turn will eventually slow down or speed up at certain times, causing the beat to run off track a little bit. So with this method, in essence it's like having 2 CDJ's to mix with. You get it?

It's up to you what you want to do, either mixer will work for both methods. Hope that helps.

HI DJFUNKMIKE.

With the SL 3 or TTM 57SL (or even Sixty-Eight) you can use a combo of phono and line inputs. The limitations of the SL 1 don't apply to those newer devices.

Hi DJFUNKMIKE - can you clarify what you mean by the above?
I think there was a quoting fail somewhere.

Do you mean that you aren't able to get the turntable AND CD player at once?
At the back of the TTM-57SL there are dipswitches to select LINE/PHONO on each of the mixer channels, just make sure the turntable is set to PHONO and CD player is set to LINE.

Well, the Sixty-Eight is a step up even from that, so if you are interested, I'd certainly check that out :D

Remember, with the SL 3 - you can boost the Master gain in Scratch Live without distortion (I normally leave it on around 2o'clock, or 3o'clock) and as long as your mixer is happy with that level of input, then you'll be getting a real hot signal.
