I recently bought a new laptop with windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit system. I updated to the newest version of scratch live (1.9.2) but my laptop is unable to download drivers from my rane scratchlive hardware. It is plugged into a USB port and is definately connected because the blue light is showing on the box.
I have tried going into start > all programs > serato > scratch live > update drivers
It detects the 32 bit system, however it cannot find the device. I have copied and pasted the error message that I received
Looking for SL 1 device...Not Connected
Looking for SL 3 device...Not Connected
Looking for MP 4 device...Not Connected
Looking for TTM 57SL device...Not Connected
No Device drivers were installed.
Press any key to continue . . .
Please could you help me.
Thanks

In addition to this, when I open the device manager, nothing serato related shows up in the universal serial bus controllers section.

Do you see "unknown device" in the universal serial bus controllers section?
Does it disappear when you unplug the Sl-1?

If so, try this
Start
right click on "Computer"
Manage
Device Manager
Universal Serial Bus Controllers
You should see "Rane Sl-1 or Rane Serato Sl-3" right click that
Choose "Uninstall" BUT you also need to put a check mark in the empty box that says "delete the driver software for this device"
Then click OK.
Unplug the Scratch Live hardware, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Go through the regular method to manually install the driver and BINGO.

Yes I do see unknown device which disappears when I disconnect the hardware, however I don't see "Rane sl-1 or Rane Serato Sl-3" in the universal Bus Controllers section so I have nothing to right click.
Not sure if this makes a difference or not but I'm not entirely sure what hardware I have. The black box does not say sl-1 or sl-3 on it. It has Serato in the top left hand corner, Scratch Live in the middle and Rane in the bottom right hand corner. I have given you the serial number of it in the original query and it was bought in London in July / August 2007. Do you know what system it is that I have?

if you purchased it on that date, it is the SL-1.
in the place of "Rane sl-1 or Rane Serato Sl-3" it sounds like you are seeing "unknown device" instead. Treat it accordingly.

The "Unknown Device" is not under Universal Bus Controllers but as per attached word file. If I right click on that and uninstall it does not give me an option to "delete the driver software for this device." I uninstalled it anyway and then disconnected the hardware. When I plugged it back in, the unknown device reappeared but not under the Universal bus controller heading.

After doing that, did you try the manual method for installing the drives?
Start
Computer
Local Disk C:
Program Files x86
Serato
Driver_updater32
Try that on all ports again.

Do you have another computer you can try and connect your box to?
Is the blue light turning on when the box is plugged in?
I did some googling and found a microsfot link that says - --
Automatically diagnose and repair problems with devices when the device manager does not detect your hardware, audio, USB, or other devices, or when your devices are disabled or not working.
support.microsoft.com
That might help find what would be causing it to show up in "other devices" instead of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"

Hello shoq,
Do you have any other usb devices plugged into your computer?
If so, unplug them and then try using the 'update driver' link via the Start menu on all of your usb ports.

My processor is Intel Core i5 CPU M430 @ 2.27GHz 2.27 GHz. I have attached a word document showing my computer's basic information. I don't have any other devices plugged into my computer. I don't know what a USB/esata combo port is. I have three USB ports and none of them work with the hardware.

We have ben seeing these problems with the new i3 / i5 / i7 processors. in most cases going back to the vendor for a BIOS update tends to resolve the issues. That might be a good next move.

I have now downloaded the BIOS update and have attached a word document showing the Hewlett Packard download page headed "WinFlash Utility for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with Intel Processors)" for the file downloaded. This has still not solved the problem. Is there anything else that I might need to download? Or is it possible to download the drivers for the SL1 from anywhere else?

What is the make and model of your computer?
The eSATA port will look slightly different to the other USB ports, and could have eSATA printed next to it.

OK. We have the same computer here, but our BIOS version is F.15.
Can you check with HP and see if they have a new BIOS update, or ask how to get F.15 for your machine?

I have contacted HP and the most up to date BIOS version they have for my system and product is F.13. They say that F.15 is not necessarily a more up to date version than F.13 it's just not compatible with my system.

Can you confirm the exact model number of the machine which should be on the bottom of the laptop on the sticker. (ie. DV6-2120TX or similar).
Also the product number (which should be next to it and look like: WF649PA#ABG)
Cheers.

Ok, Then there most certainly IS a new BIOS version available!
Can you please email HP and see if their online support has the correct BIOS information?
Make sure you say that there is a F.15 BIOS update that correctly works for another user, and that displays no issues with the problem you encounter.
Cheers.

I have just spoken to someone at HP customer services. He was quite insistant that version F.15 is not available for my system.
He gave me details of the HP download page for version F.15 which is this:
h20000.www2.hp.com
Half way down the page it shows the operating systems that it is available for, which does not show Windows 7. Despite this I tried to download F.15 from this page but it did not work.
The guy asked me to check with you what the actual filename for your BIOS system was. It should be something like "sp42314.exe"
Is there any way that I can get the hardware to work with my current BIOS system, because it would seem that, for whatever reason, F.13 is the only one that will work for me, despite us having the same product and system.

Is there anything at all that I can do? have downloaded BIOS F.15 but it will not run on my computer. Here is a link to the software and driver update page for my system and the most up to date BIOS available is about half way down the page. This is version F.13, and I have downloaded and installed it.

I have tried upgrading to your beta version, but this has made no difference at all. Manually updating drivers simply brings up a black box which initially searches for SL1 for ages but eventually comes up with this message:
Looking for SL 1 device...Not Connected
Looking for SL 3 device...Not Connected
Looking for MP 4 device...Not Connected
Looking for TTM 57SL device...Not Connected
No Device drivers were installed.
Press any key to continue . . .
It is just not recognising my SL1 box at all!
In device manager, when I plug in my SL1 it appears under "Other Devices" and is called "Unknown Device". There is nothing to do with Scratch Live under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Could the hardware itself be faulty?

Not to hand, but it was working fine on my Windows Vista machine. I'll give it a try though.
I have been having similar problems with running itunes on this comp and discovered that downloading an older version worked for me. Could this be a solution for scratchlive. I'm no computer tecchie but if my system's most up to date BIOS that is available is an older one, then would that mean that running an older version of scratchlive might do the trick?

It seems the BIOS updates are working for people. I've been following what you and Matt have been going back and forth about with your BIOS. Suprised to see as many issues with this machine.

Yes the driver does install on my netbook which runs 32 bit Windows 7 starter (although scratchlive itself does not work because of the system's screen resolution). I have posted a video on youtube showing exactly what happens when I connect the device to both systems. It's 6 minutes long and not professionally filmed I'm afraid, but I hope it gives a good indication of what's going on!
