I wish I would have known that smashvidz was having problems. I wouldn't have paid for it yet..

smash works fine...im just curious why smash doesnt put up more crooklyn vids. there hasnt been 1 crooklyn post this whole month.

cause cc sucks and they don't want to put up their stuff right away so people will buy it off of cc first.

It didnt happen to me too too much... but there was a post about salty people that bought shit on CC for ___.__ and a few weeks later it was on Smash.
which Im sure kinda hurt CC, I know there were few I was on the fence about
buying, but didnt becuase it wasnt a "must have" and figured Id probably see it
in my smashvidz subscription... alas, I didnt.

cc doesn't always go to smash and they do not always suck.

my biggest gripe with cc is when i add somthing to the crate it resets my whole screen or search and i have to go back through and try to figure out where i was.
plus there search engine is flawed. i just typed in "On To The Next" and it found nothing.

Well I can only speak about my remixes. I have only posted one remix on SmashVidz that was up on Crooklyn Clan. That video was up over a year I think before I moved it to SmashVidz. The ones I do post for SmashVidz will not be Crooklyn Clan Remixes, they will be dance remixes of tracks that I can't post on Crooklyn Clan.

theres plenty of reasons why Smash is tops.
and being able to cycle a few CC into the rotation is a good thing, especially for the
people who are new to video, and new to the different sites.

if anything, it probably gets a few people to bite on certain remixers/video editors
and gets them over to CC to buy their other works.
good business plan for both companies.

I edit under Bren F, and like Phat Al you will not see my edits cross posted on Smashvidz, the only place you can get them is Crooklyn Clan. I have posted edits in the past for the promotional benefits, and may post the odd year old mix in the future.

Personally I only edit for the mixes which I'd play myself, and use the best source material available, I wouldn't put my name to something which I felt "ripped off" customers.

To whose who say "Crooklyn" sucks then I say it's worth taking a second look, there are quality remixes/mashes/tools to be found, and they don't all contain crazy hype, there's something for everyone, just be prepared to dig if you want the best.

Smashvidz all day, every day!

I planning to get into video. On average, how big are the vids from smashvidz?

They vary. I'm totally new to this but from what I've seen....50 to 150 megabyte each with the snipz series being significantly smaller in size because their run time is about 2 min on average. I've got a 1 terabyte drive and already have 250 gig of video!

If you are hinting at file sharing, its not a good subject here.

Always been a SV fan.
I would like to see more current activity in comparison to other pools, not sure what that problem is.
For straight up extended new releases, Xtendamix seems to lead the way imo.
When I am looking for new video, it seems to show up there first, Blah Blah is a good example.

SV on the other hand really should consider a recurrent or throwback category rather than putting these in the latest 100 group, as they really aren't the latest 100 releases.
The same goes for the Rhythmic Top 40 category, Top 40 is just that Top 40, and there are currently two tracks from 2006 in the top 3 new releases and "New" is the wrong term...(new...hehe, not really...but like a new/used car if you understand....lol)
It may be a "new" remix, but is not a new release by definition.
Waaaay to many 09 tracks in the last 20 listings.

8th really should consider a streaming video player, the download to view thing is a time and space eater.
The videos need better content coding it's non existent.

I can't say anything about Smashvidz's quality that hasn't been said over and over again already...

But to me what's even more important, is that the couple times i've found any issues with their videos (happened twice with older stuff about 4-6 months ago, nothing recent), e-mailing them got a near-immediate response and a fixed version very soon after.

Even the best have "shit happen" occasionally...when it does, communication makes all the difference.

I've never had a problem with downloads not working, now the SV quer is down for the last few months, but I think that is a firefox issue

we have just recently upgraded it. download the new one. There were major changes in the latest version of Firefox.

I did about two weeks ago, but I can't seem to get firefox to use sv quer when dl'ing.

I have to manually use downthemall.

When mixing I would let them (crowd) still enjoy part of the hook (rather then throwing them off) for 4 bars, then do a couple cuts and teasers for the next four bars. Then when the next verse starts BAM mashup. To me it flows better. But some like flipping from one beat to another, I just think that throws them off. But sometimes its works, but for a series blenx is the way.

Thanks for the Crooklyn ish Smash! Some great work posted, don't listen to Puma the fairy works for SH so his impartiality is highly compromised (for a change) lol, guess he didn't get a Christmas bonus this year...

But being impartial myself there are sites out there that are wack, we all know who they are, then there are those who host a range of editors, so you can expect a range in quality, this definitely applies to SH & CC, I've had good and bad experiences with both...the conclusion: know your editors and don't fall victim a second time.

the way i see it is that CC is like any other pay per video site. there are videos that aren't going to get as much love. don't by them. buy the ones that work for you. SH is the same. not all are good.

this even applies for 8th wonder, a lot of people bash there edits. don't download them. as for me, i don't bash ANY editor. i don't have the time to edit videos. i'm grateful for those that do.

What is SH? I agree with Ivmez. for me SmashVidz are the best so far, I love the fact they have 3 versions of almost every video. CC have great transitions.

i still feel that if ur paying for a video edit from crooklyn clan or any other pay per edit sites...that it should be tagless period.

i mean ur paying for the audio and video content. ur not paying to promote the audio remixer or video editor... everyone knows who they are.

the tags dont bother me as long as they are not gigantic like my12inch and on both sides of the screen. The way smash does em should be the standard. Anyways you can just add your logo to the bottom left of the screen to cover it all night if needed, but I dont do that at all, the tags help take care of people bothering me about song names (which still happens to this day, mainly with shakira's loca.. always someone..), oh and I dont mind supporting the remixer and source too, but thats just me.

unfortunately everyone wants to be on crooklyclan and wants to establish themselves as a crooklynclan artist. its marketable! it is... its like the WWE of remixers and editors.

I wouldn't mind using some of their audio for my edits, but I can't, well I can, but for my own use.

I used to want to put my name in the chyron, but learned real quick that I don't need to do that. No patron cares who made the video, or where they got it from.

I would love to do away with all chyrons, but I see why some record pools don't. If they didn't have their chyrons then such and such pool can take their work and call it their own, or use it for their own edits.

As far as crazy remixes, no two remixers are alike. Even your standard intro will be different from editor to editor, unless the video already has an intro.

It's also not about having the better remixers, well I guess it is, but it's also the audio you can remix and the time put into it.

I rarely ever sell my edits for over $5, why, because I don't feel someone should pay $7 for a video that will only be hot for a minute. Even when I put hours into an edit, I won't sell it for a high price. I'd rather everyone get to play it, than the ones that can really afford it.

well i think they still can take someones edit and crop out the chyron part of it.. look at what so many people did with promo onlys and such...

plus theres sites out there that will sell a CC or SH video on their site.. and people really dont care about supporting the artists. like i said... people know they get paid and why should they care as a customer...

Just thought I'd chip in on CC pricing, they were reduced several weeks ago. The general price range now is $2.99-$4.99 (few are less or more).

The new titles are very small with low opacity, they don't grab your attention unless you're looking for the song title, so it's a win win really. I agree on transition titling, the main thing is to title song B rather than A or it's a bit of a giveaway, the other option would be to title each track individually, which means you'd have two but it wouldn't give away it that it's a "studio" transition.

I just looked at cc's vids and Bren is right, pricing is lower. Gregg R's Black and Yellow vid is dope BTW.

The chyrons are like smash, in fact I think they're identical.

Why not just have a hidden chyron in the beginning, or a small watermark and that's it, so to the untrained eye they won't notice anything, but you as the editor knows that that's your video.

Like looking at Gregg R's video (wiz khalifa) no other editor would do that exactly the same and he would know if someone else claims that as his.

As far as what Henry said about PO, that was true, but that was like 2 years ago when it was much harder to get source material.

I highly doubt anyone on any decent pool or remix sites are using chyron'd source material and I also doubt that someone is taking SH material (tagless) and using it for their pool/remix site. Well any well known site.

I think the titles need to make sense, if you just have the name of the track/mix with the remix artist name underneath, anyone who's not in the VJ game would understand it that the remix artist is the author of the track, do they deserve that much credit? Probably not, it's probably better to follow their name with remix or edit (whichever is more apt).

There are remixes that take days, then there are remixes/edits that take minutes, the same could be said for video, there's editing and there's editing, an edit can take half an hour or 5 hours, so sometimes credit is due.

To be honest there are editors who impress, then there's the rest, and those who impress deserve their names out there imo.

As a DJ first, everyone has their favorite remix artists who they go back to, it's easier for them to make a name than a video editor, because video editing skills aren't noticed by so many VJ's, this is one of the reasons so many amateur video sites are able to keep going with their incorrect AR, poorly sourced, poorly edited/cropped/bordered and encoded videos, people go to them because they're cheap..., who would join a remix pool if all the tracks were out of key and 128kbps mono? Just because it's cheap?

excuse me? you would have NOTHING to LOOK at if it wasn't for a video editor.

Even when using the official video version and modifying it to work with a remix is a lot of work. There is timing, effects, just being creative with using of a 3 minute video to fit a 6 minute audio track. There can be days spent on a video using the official video as your source. Nothing wrong with putting your credit to it.

I have heard PLENTY of supposed audio remixes that are just plain rip offs of an official remix that they added a fatman scoop hype overdub at the beginning and they "claim" it as their remix. although you will never find me doing any of those videos I have to say that I think is worthless credits given to those audio versions.




No... not too big for my own good... the people that know me, know that I am pretty humbled on what I do. I just think that is an extreme option of not having credits due to the actual people responsible for the video being played.

So if you disagree with me .... then you disagree... It doesn't mean your head is too big or whatever if you disagree..

The audience is reading that... so maybe they didn't know the name of the song. now they know... they could rats ass to who did the audio remix.... if they were web smart they would find that version anyways.

And keep in mind that things evolve as time goes on. The leaders of the industry always try to take constructive feedback as a valuable way to keep ahead of the competition.

Most of the editors use a template identical to sv's. I know me, bren, and steve make it a little more transparent so it looks nicer.



on certain vids i still put a split frame transparent watermark here and there, usually on more harder to obtain vids, nothing anyone could see. There have been some bootleg sites out there that have taken cc vidz along with some other remix sites video and just cropped out the chyron and made them "tagless".

I got hidden watermarks in mine too.

But also I can tell if someone uses my videos or not, well only the ones I WS myself from FS similiar to Smashvidz.

My shyne edit was FS and I did some magic and made it full screen, but not just a crop 60 on top and bottom and it would be impossible for someone to do the same thing that I did and get it exact.

I could care less about toot it and boot it or 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Fuck a hidden watermark on those vids.

But the classics that are hard to find, should have something or not get put up on sites period.

I used to crop out PO stuff years ago too, but I don't do that anymore. I would never crop out a chyron and try and sell it as my own, or use it to sell as a remix.

Actually I really like being able to fully preview certain tracks before dropping 4-5 dollars on one video.

Better idea? Apply a steep highpass filter to the "preview" audio at a frequency like 80 or 100Hz. That will be pretty much un-noticeable on laptop or small-size external speakers (removing the lowest two octaves may actually make the preview sound better on those speakers), but the missing low bass will be *really* obvious on nearly any sound system likely to be used in a bar or club.

its not too hard to break the song up into 3 or 4 pieces either.
take out a 3-4 second part here or there.

if you REALLY want to have some fun, change the pitch for you preveiw
by 3-6 bpms here and there. especially if its an intro/houtro

when I make video edits I don't want to edit it again, so I just drop the bitrate low for audio and drop a chryon for the video.
I think you might be able to chop up the stuff sorenson, but not sure about manipulating audio like said above.

imo 45 second previews may be misleading for a customer to buy something that may or may not make or break these "remixes/edits" etc. It could have something the customer might not like at the outro. Samples should include full intro into song, any transitions, breakes, efx, sampling and outro. You can prob get away with 1:20 second previews, but then the site owner has to pay for more bandwidth, and in the end, thats what it comes down to.

Low bitrate audio and video and a chyron throughout seems sufficient, too bad you can't record your voice over the track saying sample, or crooklyn clan, strictlyhits, etc for the audio.

+1, ive seen videos on YR and other sites that were suprise flips and transitions but the preview just played the original song and never let you see what the suprise flip or transition was

hey, very very new SV member, but can't seem to get SV quer to work with FFox 3.6.17? I've disabled all scripts/add-ons.... just wondering if I'm missing something. Seems like I'll be logging a lot of hours replacing old crappy vids with new HQ ones this week, yay! (Gets the coffee-IV ready...)

Yes it works with 3.6.17, its 4 it doesn't work with. But we are releasing a new version next week that will be compatible.

Actually it works better in 4 than in 3. Whenever I click on a video to download it used to take ages until it downloaded the file. Much quicker in 4. I assume it has to do with the faster Javascript engine in 4.

The only "gripe" I have is that for about 3 months or so you havent been able to download the same files with multiple chunks/streams. Used to work fine before (not ff4 related). :-/

Nah, it doesn't work properly. It starts fine, but then when going towards the end the server decides to stop delivering chunks, then the downloader stops all the chunks (yes, when its almost done with the file :-( ) and starts from scratch with one segment only :-(

yes I follow the 24 you speak of. The blenx-in is identical to the original acapella. Its strange that the record is like this, but this is the formula we use. You will notice how the blenx-in and acapellas are the same (intro wise). Also some djs might not mix in the blenx-in over a beat, just have a straight acapella riding for a little before the song kicks in). I can see how this track can be confusing for some if they assume its a 32 count hook in the beginning......but that's not how this track is at all.

The blenx is actually 32 of intro, 16 of "dj put that record on", 32 of "don't u want to see this booty bounce" (dj...dj...dj was cut out), then the song which is also identical to what the xtendz is.

Personally on the blenx-in i would'nt even use the "dj...dj...dj not enough umpgh for me to use it. I personally would put a cue point on "dj put that record on" & "bet you want to see this" but if I wanted the 16 & 32 intro over a beat (which is 48..yes not standard at all but again the original song) I would need to either have a long outro like a 64 or just loop a xtendz (personally I would take this opportunity to scratch my ass of w/ "dj put that record on".

We can add to the 24 to make it 32.....but are people going to mix the blenx-in from there? Or are you going to start your acapella from there to remix on the fly? Just an awkward place to start it IMO, but it can be added if ya'll want it.
